A buddy of mine suggested I put Autoguard Fuel Injector Cleaner, and Autoguard Octane Booster both in my tank at once. These products are available at the Dollar Store, so I said what the heck, and gave it a shot. I poured them both into a third of a tank of gas. Let me tell you, after just a few miles of driving I noticed a nice boost in performance, and a smoother running car. I never thought these additives did squat, but I was pleasantly surprised for $2.00.

wow- good for you to have noticed an improvement so soon Mr. Moto!

Just earlier this week I decided to add an STP cleaner (but it was around 5 bucks) because I was noticing the car is sounding a bit rough when going up hills.

Reading the backs of all the products, some said to put in when tank was almost empty then to fill up w/ gas- others said to use it when the tank is about 1/2 full, others said on a full tank.

Didn't think to try the cleaner AND the booster at the same time. I'm thinking that the ethanol added to gasoline is really not the best thing for our engines, even tho the gov. says it's supposed to be cleaner for our air.

I think I'll try your Dollar Store brands and give it a whirl next fuel up.

(I love the dollar stores anyway!)

My hs bf would put octane boost in with each fill up for his big block Chevy engine. Balanced and blueprinted with an amazing rumpty rump...lol

Anyway, the builder of the engine who used to build for the drag racer Shirley Muldowney, the Outlaws Sprint car team, and other racing teams insisted that the engine needed the extra octane or the engine would start to knock since it had so much horsepower and leaded gas was no longer available at that time.

IIRC.....Be careful about what engine type you have when adding it though. Some engines can't deal with the octane booster on a regular basis, or with too little fuel to mix it with, because it eats them up as well as other parts.

I have used fuel injection cleaner on a clown car with some issues and it did help.

Yep..years ago..Took a Fairlane to 288 miles. I think they work..maybe moreso in the "earlier/older" automobiles. I'm clueless as to these newbie cars..I have one..I put synthetic oil in it..10K miles. Gas mileage..they say 32..I've gotten as much as 40..now and then..but average is..yes...32-35. I love how those printouts/leds tell you your mileage..it's a KICK. Take the foot off the gas and you get 999.9 MPG! LOL

Today..not so sure..will wait and see..cars are not what they used to be!

Yeah, I really wasn't expecting much. In fact, once I put the stuff in my gas tank and started driving, I forgot about it. But a short while later I noticed the effects. Heck, I got on the freeway with such a smooth surge of power, I was smiling with delight. I guess my fuel injectors and whatnot really needed cleaning, or my car just needed a kick in the pants. Of course, you may not get the same results, but it's worth a try for a couple of bucks. Try putting it in when you have a 1/4 to 1/3 tank of gas. I bought the Autoguard brand at Dollar Tree.

There's one brand of fuel injector cleaner that mechanics rave about. It's called Lucas Fuel Treatment. The small containers are expensive, but can buy bulk containers fairly cheaply. I may try this stuff. What's a clown car?

Ah yes.. the old days when cars were simple! Now everything is computerized. But modern fuel injection is definitely better than the old carburetor systems.
