Thanks for starting this thread dinojen!
I'm hoping (any and/or all) American makes it to the finals!
I haven't checked the weather for up there--anyone know right off hand how the weather will be a factor-or not?
I just remember the Glory Days of Pete and Andre making a showing in Flushing Meadows and John and Jimmy before them :)
I am hoping that Andre and Steffi will be playing Doubles.

Great matches last night... surprised Venus pulled it off though.. wonder if her knee will hold up the whole tournament.. sure was a long long break they gave her.. that was unusual.
Glad to see Roddick on a roll...
Tonite on center court we have Sharpova and Andy Murray is playing too..
Going to have to check the schedule and see who else plays today, was listening to Mike and Mike this morning and they said no Nadal today:sad: probably tomorrow.. my Mom will be happy.. that's her boy she says..lol

Andy Murray won too... wow he was all over the place, wasn't as easy win as Sharpova had.. lol.
Nadal plays this morning.. Gasquet a French guy.. and Federer plays tonite.. he's playing a German.. forgot his name.. I'll be home just in time to watch Roger..

I like Dina Safina ( I hope I spelled her name correctly). She reminds me of a horse in horse racing like coming down the backstretch. She appears to get much better as the match progresses. Well, Dina is #1 now. I think her brother lost to Melzer today. Monfils was not as silly as usual today. Venus is getting real close now to advancing to the next round. Her leg is heavily taped up.

Hey You..Raystar:seeya:..forgot that you were into tennis..Me too!!
I dont think Venus will be able to weather the storm..I really think her knee is "Bummed out".....But always enjoy her matches.
Cljisters is playing now..so good to see her back..Bartoli is a player I find hard to watch..her serving motion makes me want to help her loosen up...LOL..She looks so awkward to me!!
Did you see Murray last night?..He sure has learned to control his emotions..not to mention has bulked up in the past year!!

Maria Sharpova just won her match in two sets.. she played a 17 year old.. didn't catch her name.. was a pretty boring match... but Andy Roddick is just walking on the court to play Gicquel.. think he's french.. hopefully it will be a better match.. Maria is a hurt puppy...i am sure her shoulder is giving her problems..Trainer called...She has changed her serving style..but maybe she's just not up to dealig with this hard hitting youngster...its funny, as there really isnt that much age difference..but I guess in their sport..a year is like a decade..LOL

How are you all doing down there in TN? How are you coping with Steve's death? :crying:

Watchin World Team Tennis. Johnny Mac is playing and Martina. Does not get much better then this. They are now playing Mixed Doubles against each other. Johnny is the only one not wearing a name on the back of his shirt. Guess everyone knows who he is. Now he is arguring with the ump which I think is for fun. The whole crowd is out on the Court.

NEW YORK (AP) — Andy Murray of Britain has been upset at the U.S. Open, losing in straight sets to Marin Cilic of Croatia.
The 16th-seeded Cilic beat the No. 2 Murray 7-5, 6-2, 6-2 Tuesday to reach his first Grand Slam quarterfinal.
Murray was the runner-up at Flushing Meadows last year. He appeared to have trouble with his left wrist against Cilic, flexing it and grimacing.
Cilic hit 35 winners to only 13 for Murray.
Cilic next plays No. 6 Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina.

I just read some sad news about our Peach's parents. I think it was on a sports illustrated piece.
Now the reason I am posting this is because when Melanie was asked about what has kept her going, I found it odd she did not mention her mother. Now I know I did not state the question nor her answer correctly but so often young people almost always mention either one or both parents.

Now the reason I am posting this is because when Melanie was asked about what has kept her going, I found it odd she did not mention her mother. Now I know I did not state the question nor her answer correctly but so often young people almost always mention either one or both parents.
Just read it also.. she's 17.. the media needs to keep her parents personal stuff just that.. personal... geesh.. kids aren't even safe from their scrutiny. If I recall Capriati and another tennis player had the same issues with the media doing stories on their parents..
She did amazing... no one expected her to go that far. Was talking to my Mom and told her .. being in center court .. first time at night... a crowd like that.. her nerves had to have gotten the better of her.. but we will see much more of this talented young lady I think.
Mostly doubles today... I know the Williams sisters play this morning..
But tonite we have Rafael Nadal... vs. Fernando Gonzalez
That will be a great match..

Great post, Dinojen at 10:45 am. Sometimes I think reporters would sell their children for a story.
I'm sure her nerves were on edge. I certainly hope we see more of her she appears to be so childlike innocent. Wow does that make sense. I guess fresh and clean are better descriptives.
That guy that tried to kiss Rafa may end up in jail for a year. OUCH I guess he never heard of Monica Seles.

Well some guy at Wimbledon I think it was rushed the court to give Roger a red hat... some fans are loonies.. these guys seem harmless enough.. but that was horrible about Seles.
Talking about Melanie.. think back to when Chris Evert and Tracy Austin were on the tennis scene.. that's Melanie.. she got her taste of being close to the finals.. she will do fine.. Did you know she wants to go to college and then medical school to be a OB dr.... lol. The girl has her head on straight that's for sure.. nice to see. Now hopefully the media will leave her alone and she will have a good support system.

I've watched the Clijster's match twice now and just am :scared:
Serena was off from the first start of the game... but I found her unprofessional, unsportsman like behavior really disgusting.. every word was caught on camera and you can watch the people's face sitting behind that line judge.. just like... I can't believe she would think she could get by with saying what she did ... with all the expletives and not get knocked for it... totally uncalled for... I felt bad for Kim Clijster's..
AND.. THEN... I'm almost done with my vent... She was totally unapologetic about it when she addressed the media...
Kim played great.. was going to win whether Serena had her melt down or not.
Think the women's final is tonite... and men's is tomorrow night.. will have to check the schedule..

Mine isn't on till 1 PST.. so that's another 2 and half hours.. watching Nadal play Del Portro.. not looking good for Nadal... down 1 set and behind 1/3 in the second... saying his abdominal muscle is bothering him..
I hope she can't.. that was so unprofessional what she did.. really really tacky.. it's one thing to swear.. but to threaten someone like that.. wow.. she owes the lineslady a apology. IMO

Pretty bad IMO coming from a champion tennis player...
Dropping the f-word liberally, Williams said, "I swear to God I'm [expletive] going to take this [expletive] ball and shove it down your [expletive] throat, you hear that? I swear to God."
The line judge was called over to the chair umpire, and tournament referee Brian Earley joined in the conversation. With the crowd booing -- making part of the dialogue inaudible -- Williams then went over and said to the line judge: "Sorry, but there are a lot of people who've said way worse." Then the line judge said something to the chair umpire, and Williams responded, "I didn't say I would kill you. Are you serious? I didn't say that." The line judge replied by shaking her head and saying, "Yes."
And we thought Johnny Mac and Jimmy Connors were bad in the old days... lol..

Anyway,DANG IT,I wanted to see Rafael (and his fabulous arms!) play Roger. This guy who beat him........any chance he could make it interesting with Roger?

Glad to see her become a mother and coming back and being so strong in her game. Heck,it sure doesn't affect men that way when they become parents!

Possible Repercussions for Serena Williams
By Lynn Zinser
Amid all the action of a huge day in tennis, the big lingering question at the United States Open is if further discipline will be meted out for Serena Williams’s match-ending tantrum in the semifinal match against Kim Clijsters Saturday night.
Normally there would be no hurry to make a decision, but Serena and Venus Williams have made the women’s doubles final — scheduled to be played Monday — and one of the possible decisions by the U.S.T.A. could be to suspend Serena for the remainder of this tournament, costing the Williams sisters their chance at a doubles title.
The other options for the U.S.T.A. or W.T.A. would be a fine or a suspension that would not kick in until after this tournament ends.
The W.T.A. rules allow for fines or suspensions because of on-court violations of the tour’s code of conduct, but only specifically mentions suspensions in other events of the same tournament when a player is defaulted because of bad behavior. Williams was not defaulted but simply issued a point penalty and that penalty happened to come on match point. Open officials were explicit in explaining that after the match.
http://straightsets.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/09/13/possible-repercussions-for-serena-williams/
Really not fair for Venus to be penalized.. but hey rules are rules.. and I still am shocked at her sister's behavior.. just raising her racket to the linesman should of been enough.. IMO

Serena fined, more punishment possible
http://sports.yahoo.com/ten/news?slug=ro-serenafine091309&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
Williams was levied with a $10,000 fine by the U.S. Open for unsportsmanlike conduct
An additional $500 fine for racket abuse was also imposed
The committee has the authority to strip Williams of her entire $350,000 prize purse for this tournament, plus hand down a ban for future Slams starting with the 2010 Australian Open. However, she is expected to be allowed to compete in Monday’s women’s doubles final alongside sister Venus.
Oh yeah, and congrats Kim (and dino :) ) she got a great win.

All I can say is blah blah blah blah blah... Guess her PR people must of got ahold of her after she attended the Video Awards last night...
“I want to sincerely apologize FIRST to the lines woman, Kim Clijsters, the USTA and mostly tennis fans everywhere for my inappropriate outburst,” Monday’s statement read.
“I’m a woman of great pride, faith and integrity, and I admit when I’m wrong,” it continued. “I need to make it clear to all young people that I handled myself inappropriately and it’s not the way to act — win or lose, good call or bad call in any sport, in any manner. I like to lead by example. We all learn from experiences both good and bad, I will learn and grow from this, and be a better person as a result.”
I see her sister and her are winning the doubles match so far.. 6/4 the first set.. I wonder what her welcome was like on the court.. I really do feel sorry for Venus..

I think Serena did a great job in being a BIG GIRL, apologizing, making amends and taking responsibility for her actions. Good for her. Wish we could all be so appropriate when we make a mistake. Whats to feel sorry for Venus? They are a great doubles team and I love to watch them play. Well done, Serena and a good example for all of us on making ammends when we have been wrong. IMO, It is not a life event and the linesperson was totally wrong calling a foot fault.

We can agree to disagree I guess... the apology that she gave today a half hour before she took to the court.. seems a little to late for me.. but hey that's jmo.
They are great tennis players.. both of them.. but Serena's outburst on court and the threatening manner she used towards the lines person was totally uncalled for and I'm sure it will be dealt with.

WOW... great match.. he should be proud... he beat the master of the game...
Me either. In fact I thought Roger was going to run away with it and went to dinner in the beginning of the fourth set. Have to see the rerun on Tennis Channel.

You may not feel very well after watching the re-run. The fifth set was downright HORRIBLE. I like Roger. I am happy for the young winner.

It looks like this U.S. Open was not good for cbs or espn's censors
The two outburst to me reminded me of professional tennis in the 80's and early 90's. When John McCenroe played, and gave some memorable tantrums

The 80s and 90s was Tennis's hayday. After that it was Andre Agassi and a bunch of robots. Now that Agassi is retired, we have Andy Roddick. I know Roger is a great player as was Pete Sampa but in my opinion, dull as dishwater or watching paint dry. Bring back "Life" to the circut. Johnny Mac was more entertaining then just about anyone. I saw him play doubles with Arthur Ashe forty years ago and it was a hoot.
