I've been watching the show. Thank goodness for a place like DogTown, eh? I hope that M. Vick is committed to supporting the place: some of his dogs will have to be there all their lives. Anyone know anything about that? Did the court lay out that obligation for him?

http://www.animallawcoalition.com/dog-fighting/article/87

Vick has agreed as part of his sentence to pay a little over $928,000 for the care of the dogs. Huss recommended and the court has now ordered that for each dog the groups will receive $5,000 though in many cases in which the dog will likely require long term care, the group is to be paid $20,000 per dog. It is not clear if local groups and shelters which have been caring for and housing the dogs will share in funds paid by Vick to cover their costs.

That was long before he filed bankruptcy, I believe the money had already been paid as part of his sentencing. I need to read the link further, it has updates.

I cry each time I see an update on these poor sweet furbabies.

It was the trainers last statement that sums it up: They've had unspeakable things done to them by people, yet they still love people.

ETA: Yep, the trust fund was already set up at the time of trial, before he filed bankruptcy.

Good to know the funds were set up before he declared bankruptcy. I was happy to hear that 25 of the dogs rescued are now happiily living with their forever families now. Even if some will live all their lives at DogTown it is clear they will be loved and well cared for. My goodness - did you see that guy out in the kennels with his sleeping bag spending the night with the dog? Sweet.

:rose: If there is anything at all to come out "good" in this Michael Vick horror, it's the legacy of the Vicktory dogs that survived the terror they were subjected to. God bless them, and God bless all who have made their precious lives better, finally.

I love those people of Dog Town. The vets and staff are just wonderful.

Too bad most of his dogs don't get a second chance.

What gets me, is the brutality of the man. Can anyone say that the dogs died quietly? We all know how they must have literally screamed their agony while Vick and his henchmen laughed and thought it made them macho-men.

In reality, such behavior always lessens the man and makes them inferior to even the animals they are torturing.

Vick's dogs are now happy and healthy, but if anyone has half a brain, they'll look at the surviving animals and know that if Vick could, he'd round them all up and kill them all unless they could make him some money when he gambled on their lives.

He's a horror of a man, and when I look into those eyes, I see death. He's a walking, talking, football playing, death trap for any living being. Yet, people still think he's Mr. Wonderful. Well. They can have him. Until and unless he can put his money where his lyin' mouth is, I don't believe a word he has to say. It's one thing to say you're sorry and quite another to actually BE sorry. I'm willing to bet he's still an abusive creep.

Oh but they did! Only one had to be put down because he was just too far gone. The rest have been placed and most will be put up for adoption.

One was court ordered to stay at dog town for life because they said he was human aggressive. I wish you had seen the show, because nobody explained to that furbaby he's supposed to be human aggressive, he was put with a wonderful behaviorist as a case.

He's doing just great, doing well overcoming his fear response to unfamiliar people, and Dog Town will give him a safe loving home for the rest of his life.

Of all the dogs confiscated, only one was put down, one was court ordered not to be placed in a private home, the rest are either already in foster homes or in training to pass the good citizen test so they can be placed.
