The bodies of David Lee Metzler, 19, of Lynchburg and Heidi Lynn Childs, 18, of Forest were discovered early Thursday by a passerby at Jefferson National Forest
I didn't see this anywhere else. Sry if its a duplicate. Such a shame VT has had to go through so much the past couple of years.
How awful. I hope they find the guy who did this.

Va. Tech offers $10,000 for solution of 2 slayings
BLACKSBURG, Va. - Virginia Tech is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the slayings of a student couple in the Jefferson National Forest.
University President Charles Steger said Thursday the school wants to assist Montgomery County authorities seeking the killer or killers.
Officials say the reward money comes from gifts by the Board of Visitors and administration.
A passer-by found the bodies of 19-year-old David Lee Metzler and 18-year-old Heidi Lynn Childs on Aug. 27 at Caldwell Fields, a day use and campground area about 15 miles from campus.
Police say the students apparently were shot.
A student group, Hokies United, scheduled an informal ceremony on the main lawn Thursday evening in remembrance of the two sophomores.

BLACKSBURG — A Virginia Tech student group is holding a ceremony to honor the lives of the student couple slain last week in the Jefferson National Forest.
Hokies United organized the 7 p.m. Thursday ceremony for 19-year-old David Lee Metzler and 18-year-old Heidi Lynn Childs on the university’s main lawn.
The informal ceremony will consist of a moment of silence and reflection.
The student group organized placement of memorial stones on the lawn in April 2007 after a student gunman killed 32 people and took his own life.
A passer-by found the bodies of Metzler and Childs early on Aug. 27 in a day use and campground area about 15 miles from campus.
Police say the students appeared to have been shot.

Families Mourn Deaths of Campus Crusade for Christ Students
Heidi's father, Donald Childs, is an aviation sergeant with the Virginia State Police, which is assisting with the investigation. He said the two students knew each other for years.
I can't imagine anything worse than having to investigate the murder of your own child.

This case reminds me of a case in Georgia years ago.

Two students killed and no clues until a guy confessed to his father that he'd shot them to see what it felt like to kill someone. His dad just happened to be an FBI agent and talked him into confessing to LE. I was so amazed by the conviction of the dad to do the right thing. And then, when it went to trial the guy caved and tried to say he wasn't talking to his son as a father, but rather as an agent. Then they started with the "he's crazy" excuse. Big disappointment.

That story is very interesting. That boy is certainly a sociopath. Really nothing you can do about that.
I have been very concerned about the VA murders. I saw the fathers of these two young people recently on tv. They were outstanding students, very popular and didn't seem to have an enemy anywhere. It had to be a psycho or someone who was obsessed with one of them. My prayer is that some leads come in.
