Cops tells TMZ that DJ AM -- also known as Adam Goldstein -- was found dead in bed this morning in New York City at around 7 AM.

DJ AM -- also known as Adam Goldstein -- was found dead this morning in New York City.

The NYPD tells us he was found in his apartment at around 7 AM.

Back in September of 2008, DJ AM and Travis Barker were in a plane crash in South Carolina. Four people died in the crash -- DJ AM and Barker were the only survivors.

I really hope his death wasn't due to drugs. He always seemed like a nice guy and i hope the extra year of life God granted him he made the most of.

Update: The New York Post is reporting that drug paraphernalia was found in the apartment.

I just read this on yahoo news. Very sad. :sad: I really liked him and he was a very talented guy. Like Veritas mentioned, how horrible it is he recently survived a near fatal plane crash and now he still winds up dead at 36! And Justice4all, unfortunately, I would not be surprised if his death was drug related.
The dance club scene in which he Dj'd is famous for drugs. It makes me really angry at how many lives are lost due to drugs, great talents in the entertainment industry... Heath Ledger, Michael Jackson, Anna Nicole Smith, so many! But of course I do not know if DJ AM's was in fact drug related, but I have a sick feeling in my gut it was. So young and tragic.

I think the PTSS is what brought drugs back into his life. He was sober for many years.

He had been clean and sober for nine years before the plane crash. i suspect the plane crash caused him to go back to the drugs :(

I remember when we had a thread about the plane accident here.

I recall thru the years reading about him dating Nicole Richie and having the weight loss surgery.

The allure of crack must be very powerful.

This may sound harsh, but I'm glad he didn't have any children with Nicole- so they weren't left fatherless.

I just heard about DJ AM I am very sad to hear this I thought he was back on the road to recovery and a good life IIRC he was working on something about Drug Recovery with MTV this is very sad as he had a miracle surviving a plane crash along with Travis I hope they were getting close again it seems the crash had left both with PTSD know matter how he passed away it was way to soon and a very sad time for many...RIP Adam M:rose:

ADAM GOLDSTEIN - DJ AM FILMED REALITY SERIES ABOUT DRUG ISSUES BEFORE HIS DEATH

Tragic DJ AM was putting the finishing touches to an MTV reality series about drug abuse and intervention when he died on Friday (28Aug09).
The former drug abuser was shooting Gone Too Far, which was set to air later this year (09).
Ironically, he suffered a reported drug overdose in his New York apartment and was found dead on Friday evening.
The New York Post is reporting that drug paraphernalia was found in the apartment.
In a recent interview about Gone Too Far, with U.S. TV news show Extra, DJ AM - real name Adam Goldstein - reflected on the need for intervention for drug abuse, stating, "It's life or death, some of these people have come so close to dying, just as I did... I had no shot, but it's never too late."
It is not known if MTV will air the eight episodes of Gone Too Far DJ AM shot before his death.

He was found lying in bed wearing sweatpants – and with a crack pipe and at least seven bottles of prescription drugs on his kitchen counter, including the anti-anxiety drug Xanax.

I was shocked when I read he was found dead but I'm not surprised that he might have took his own life. What he went thru last yr and the breakup of a g/f recently probably triggered his addictions and the oding on prescription meds is no accident. He had like 7 different bottles and too much Xanax will cause you to stop breathing. And he has attempted suicide before. So sad he was an awesome DJ. Here he was trying to help others with their addictions too bad he couldn't save himself from the temptation.

Dr Drew Pinskey said that DJ Am had been prescribed some pain medications after the crash that may have triggered his addictions again. It is so sad how many people that drugs have taken from us...

He also dated Mandy Moore. Nicole Richie hasn't spoken out yet she was engaged to DJ AM a few yrs ago. I think DJ AM has been depressed and I think he's death is a suicide and not a accidental death. He mixed crack with meds that's not an accidental. How do you accidentally take like a lot of pills and smoke crack?

Thoughts and prayers to DJ AM his freinds and family. He really was sort of in the IN crowd of Hollywood. The stereotypical "cool dj guy", I guess you could say. It seemed like he was a part of modern hollywood. The plane crash he wads in was horrific. He was an awsome DJ, he was good at what he did.
