Here's the Vanity Fair article. No mention of his murdered daughter in the bio though.

My bad, they do mention her. That event in his life really shaped the type of writer and crime watcher he became in his later years.

NEW YORK -- Author Dominick Dunne, who told stories of shocking crimes among the rich and famous through his magazine articles and best-selling novels such as "The Two Mrs. Grenvilles," died Wednesday at his home in Manhattan. He was 83.
Actor-director Griffin Dunne said in a statement released by Vanity Fair that his father had been battling bladder cancer for some time. But the cancer did not prevent Dunne from working and socializing, his twin passions.
In September 2008, against the orders of his doctor and the wishes of his family, he flew to Las Vegas to attend the kidnap-robbery trial of O.J. Simpson, a postscript to his coverage of Simpson's 1995 murder trial that spiked Dunne's considerable fame.

Yes, she surely did. I had wondered in an earlier post why I had not heard it before on CNN, but I should have known the announcement would come from Nancy, his good friend.
I watched the documentary After the Party last night on Netflix. Mr. Dunne was brutally honest about his own shortcomings, but he came through as the wonderful writer we all loved. Most poignant moment at the end of the film, he said he would keep on working until the end.
Lots of memories of Spector 1 in the film, and a fleeting shot of Beth Karas talking to Dominick.

A wonderful writer I could never put his books down once I started to read them. I would love to hear what Mr. Dunne would have to say about the fact that he and the Senator passed away the same day. Mr. Dunne was not a Kennedy lover. He was instrumental in getting Martha Moxley's case reopened. His heart went out to Martha's mom and just wanted someone with good detective skills to take a look at it.

The "Kennedys" did not try to squelch the Martha Moxley murder. It was Ethel Kennedy's family. It was the Skakel family. Ethel may or may not have anything to do with the cover-up. The Kennedys had nothing to do with this. The case was re-opened because of Mark Furmen's book - not because of Dominic Dunne.
I adore D. Dunne. I have all of his books and will miss him tremendoulsy. Though his end was not unexpected, it still grieves me. But please do not state points that are not true. The only reason that the Martha Moxley case was re-opened is because of Mark Furmen's book.

Mr. Dunne had asked Mr. Furmen to take a look at Martha's case because Mr. Dunne was a friend to Martha's mom. Mr. Furmen took that look and began an investiagtion on his own and then wrote the book which opened up the case. It started with Mr. Dunne wanting to help Martha's family because they were getting no where in who did this to Martha. I have followed Martha's case from the very beginning growining up in MA it was covered every anniversary of her murder. Mr. Dunne was against people who used their money and power to get away with crimes that a normal person would have to be brought to justice.
