The gunmen shot Nikki Neely, 22, in the face and back at her home on Barnes Road in the city of Chattahoochee Hills. The same men also attacked and beat Neely's one-year-old son Jovante.

Teen Charged With Beating Baby, Shooting Woman During Home Invasion
Police have arrested a 17-year-old man for allegedly shooting a south Fulton County woman and beating her 1-year-old son during a home invasion.
Police arrested Antoine Wimes Tuesday for the Monday attack on Shenegua "Nikki" Neely. Police say Wimes and 21-year-old Donovan McCoy attacked Neely looking for money. McCoy was arrested Monday night.
Police said Wimes' sister is Neely's best friend. Chattahoochee Hills police Chief Damon Jones said the incident was drug- and gang-related.

Relative turned in suspect, who was out on bond in murder case
“I own this world, like Scarface,” Wimes shouted to reporters when he was taken in to the Chattahoochee Hills police station earlier Tuesday evening. :glare: If I remember my movies correctly Scarface ended up blown to bits, right?
He emerged to find his mother and another woman waiting outside, as police loaded him into the back of a squad car.
“I love you Tot. I love you, Mama,” he said, as he looked through the barred windows and held both his thumbs up.
Wimes was out of jail on $250,000 bond for murder and aggravated assault charges from February for a shooting in southwest Atlanta, Fulton County jail authorities said.
Wimes’ family told police he cut off his ankle monitor early Monday morning. He was staying with his family in Chattahoochee Hills, police said.

Police: Teen May Have Swung Toddler Like Baseball Bat
Investigators said Wimes and McCoy may have swung the 1-year-old like a baseball bat.
”It appears as though he was struck with either a very hard object or -- as hard as it sounds -- he was…his body was actually struck against a hard object,” said Jones.

OMG. After reading that, I don't know what to say. I just feel kind of hopeless. How could anyone do that? (And my comments could pretty much apply to any of the crimes on these threads.)

And a magistrate judge (who is appointed and not elected) let him out on bond.

Apparently not all ankle monitoring companies are competent.

Perhaps the best solution would be for there to be no bond for those accused of murder. Let the check kiters and penny ante thieves out on bond w/ankle monitors and keep the murderers behind bars.
Even I would considered a "tough" teen thug type of person someone who would do anything to escape the ankle monitor. You know, when you're young, tuff, the "new" Scarface, whatever he calls himself, he isn't going to just stay @ his mama's house 24/7. Nope, he's gonna PROVE he's big, macho, etc. Like, it takes real macho to beat up a baby, or to throw a baby against a wall. Perhaps if Mr Macho would pick on someone his own size, he would get taken down a peg or two--which is why he picks on defenseless babies.

His family said he had cut off his ankle monitor
Wonder WHEN his family knew he had cut off his ankle monitor? Had they all been out of the house and just returned to find him gone? Or, had they known by 9am, or noon, or 5 pm? Who reported his monitor being off--the family, or was it only reported when someone from the monitoring company figured it out?

Another brave, macho characteristic:
“He later told me he wanted to be shot by police,” Jones said
Maybe he tho't being shot by police would make him a hero, a martyr or something? Geesh, if you want to be shot, be a big boy and do it yourself. Make it a good one, tho. A final one. :cursing:

IMO, the charges should include attempted murder times 2. Only assault?? They had a freakin' gun, for Pete's sake. That screams to me that they were going to kill this girl if she resisted--whomever wielded the gun is a poor shot, cuz I don't think they meant for her to be able to tattle on them.
