It was his job when he was in the senate, but he was too busy campaigning to do his job then. MO

Well he's the President now, he can do what he wants. Yes he Can!

But he didn't say anything to Congress's desire for $200 million for luxury jets? The Defense Dept. knocked that one!

He's like a child. He's not getting his way in health care and cap and tax, so he will pillage the defense budget and put our soldiers in danger. You are correct, it's the congress' job to control costs.

More posturing by our feckless leader. :rolleyes:

He has been signing spending bills like a spendaholic on steroids and now with defense he is going to be frugal. Why am I not surprised?

Seems perfectly consistent to me.

Why waste taxpayer funds on what is not a traditional constituency?

And besides, many in the military are even allowed to carry (gasp!) guns!

:smile:

I know. It is almost as though they use the "is it useless?"and will it buy a vote criteria before any bill is put through.

Most Americans are still in his corner, considering the mess he has to mop up.
I think he's doing a wonderful job, considering the haters are still out there regardless of what he does or doesn't do..
I wouldn't wish his job ( as a black man) on my worst enemy especially in this country.

Pretty Patty, I don't see it that way. From the election to the early days of his Presidency, he had overwhelming support. If there were haters (as some might be) they were in the clear minority! The nation and well as other world countries celebrated his victory with great enthusiasm.

Every president have 'haters'. But I see this president losing the the support due to his extreme left positions and naive judgments so far in office. He's losing the support of former believers.

The people are beginning to speak out now, and I don't believe it will end. Unless he starts becoming more fiscally responsible (as Congress should do) think he will continue to lose support even within his own party.

This saddens me because I wanted the first black president to be one of our best.

I really can't see this bill being rammed through by the Democrats only. There will be blue dog and fear voting here. Some Congressmen will see that they are likely to fail in the next election if they happen to be in a conservative district.

Does it matter?

The argument either makes sense or it doesn't.

It makes sense to me - I think you could even find posts on this very thread that can't seem to keep from bringing race into the discussion.

And BTW, I don't recall the Right getting all huffy and slapping down the Race Card every time someone on the Left dumped on Condi Rice or Clarence Thomas.

Nope, I think the Left is having a little bit of an issue getting comfortable with this whole Post Racial thing.

:laugh::laugh:

I think you are right, but I think it goes to the issue of those on the left not having any confidence in people's skills and the ability to make it without a handicap given to them. You can look at their constantly propping up Obama, their views on affirmative action, and how they underestimate those on welfare.

It is almost as though they have to believe these people have lesser abilities in order to feel superior themselves. All they do is stifle spirit and demean any progress the people achieve.

who have you heard say that? some republican web site?

I was thinking the same thing. I am a lefty of European descent and when it was announced that Obama won, tears came to my eyes (happy ones).

Hmmmm.

Far Left background with a sprinkling of Marxist associations thrown in and an Elitist and somewhat murky education.

Yeah, that is strong!

:laugh::laugh:

Low expectations help too. :laugh:

Getting back to the subject of the original post...the President had very valid points. There is waste and congressional interference in defense budgets. There are always programs and weapons included in defense budgets the military don't want and don't need.

Soldiers (inclusive for Marines/Sailors/Airmen) don't write the defense budgets. They participate, but the final decisions are made by Congress and civilian appointees.

Military budgets as proposed by military leaders aren't limited to weapons of war. They include allocations for improving the health and welfare of military members and their families. When members of congress use money for programs/weapons the military doesn't want or need, it impacts what can be allocated for improving the living conditions and health services for active duty military members and their families.

And don't forget the pork that is added to defense budgets every year that has absolutely nothing to with "defense".

Both parties are guilty.

Obama wants to cut defense spending while at the same time he wants to send thousands of more troops to Afghanistan. Wow, he really is a miracle worker!
