GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas -- A Texas man is accused of slamming his car head-on into a bicyclist, who was left in the car's back seat after he toppled over the roof and crashed through the rear window.

Twenty-seven-year-old Vincent Paul Riojas was jailed Monday on an intoxication manslaughter charge. He is accused of hitting 59-year-old Ronnie Monroe Keller on Saturday night in Grand Prairie, a suburb of Dallas where both men lived.

According to police, Riojas drove from the scene to his home and apparently tried to hide the car in a side yard before fleeing.

Riojas' relatives found Keller critically injured in the car and called police. Keller was dead when he arrived at the hospital.

If only he'd tried to help the guy.

that's so bizarre - but i remember an eerily similar case a few years ago..
a woman hit someone who was lodged in her windshield and front seat (iirc) and moaning. she drove home and parked her car in her garage and left him for several hours [until morning iirc]. by then he was dead.

I remember seeing her on TV. Wasn't the trial on Court TV?

IIRC she was a disturbed young woman.

imo

Thank you for the correction. She knew enough to render aide until EMS showed up. But wait...she never called EMS. :cursing:

It was also in TX and her name is Chante Mallard. She got 50 years. Her attny had a hard row to hoe: trying to convince the jury she isn't a monster - she was just upset and she "left the scene of an accident" and "failed to render assistance". Gosh - how many of us would carry the victim right on home with us - and then be having sex with a friend while waiting for him to die? I don't think it was on CourtTV or I'm sure I wouldn't have forgotten that last part - about having sex in the house while the guy was crying out for help. Amazing - just amazing! And now another one - could have driven right to the hospital. Is there something in the water in affecting minds in TX? Is there an unusual community value I haven't heard of?

I think it was CTV as I remember posting during the trial.

Wow, I must have avoided it. I remember just feeling ill when I read about it.

Wasn't the victim homeless? I remember his teen son testified. He made a statement to the effect that even if his father didn't have a job or home that he still have value. It was pitiful.

IMO her actions were not those of a normal, mature woman. IIRC she was also high on drugs.

She wasn't legally insane and she deserves to be punished. I hope she's getting mental health treatment in prison.

imo

That's exactly what this reminded me of. What the heck was this guy and that woman thinking? The victims were lodged in the cars, they could have been helped. The cars had registrations--they were going to be in trouble one way or the other--why not get help for the victims? The drunk driving and injury charges (whatever they would be charged with) would have to be less than the charge for letting the victim die, for Pete's sake. Like, no one was going to figure out they were driving under the influence or something. If they wait long enough, the BAT numbers or the amount of drugs would be less, but still, the charge for letting them die had to be more than the others. :cursing:
