Based upon the article, I think it already has:
In Venezuela, officials bristled. President Hugo Chavez warned, “the winds of war [are] beginning to blow.”
Chavez has already accused Colombian troops of making an incursion over the border and regional tensions are running high. Honduran de-facto President Rafael Correa also took exception, saying the United States would target Colombia’s neighbors if the deal is finalized.

This story reminds me of Tom Clancy's book Clear and Present Danger. A president deployed a small para-military unit to Columbia and it was all down-hill from there.

It is outrageous. It's more more of the worst parts of the Bush years.

Never met Clancy but I worked with the First Wife's cousin. Not a fan.
I thought we were bringing the Troops home not starting new insertions. This is awful.

Because the outrage is a reaction against a political party and not any policy. THAT part is transparent! IMO

This move is about the U.S. taking 5 steps back! Looks like this will only serve to unify the South American leaders and their people AGAINST THE U.S.
(hmmmm, I seem to remember the Left saying this about someone.......was it Bush?......:sneaky:)
"South American presidents expressed deep concerns Monday over the United States' plan to increase its military presence in Colombia."

From the article:
"Uribe said he would attend an emergency summit of the Union of South American Nations (Unasur) that will gather on August 28 in Bariloche, Argentina, to discuss the situation created by the Colombian base agreement."
Does the Obama administration ever think anything through before taking action?
Your last line is right - what are they thinking? what are they trying to do?
South America has so many Communist/Socialist leaders and the Head seems to be Hugo Chavez, a big military man. He is a master at fomenting and organizing hate and it doesn't take much for this hate to be directed towards the U.S.

Inciting what? Questioning the wisdom of sending more troops to foreign lands when our border is wide open and borrowing more Chinese money to do it. Guilty. Inciting Congress to exercise it's Constitutional Powers? Guilty. I wish more Americans would begin questioning this.

I'm with you, watcher. This is not the time to interfere with other countries and their problems. I appears we have enough here at home to clean up...unemployment, transparency of TARP and stimulus funds, health care debates, bringing down the deficit, getting manufacturing going again and building that darn wall that has taken way too long to secure our borders.
I just cannot imagine sending more troops to Columbia when we are so unsettled here and are responsible for the worlds economic crisis.
This should be top priority before any other endeavors!

Brilliant, Carol! Just yesterday I was wondering what they were going to come up with to distract from HCR - and yes, Rahm Emanuel DID come to mind.

Colombia's sounding the alarm to region's leaders that USA is interveining - but don't forget boys & girls, Obama is making other nations like us again according to the fan based rhetoric.
Aside from talking about everything else, the only thing he's actually done is go to WAR! Where's the outrage?

sure there was, I said it was too late, we had our chance and bush let them go, he decided Iraq was more important then bin laden and his gang
personally I think this is more about the economy, if we bring all our men and women back to a country with no job for them, what then? I do not agree with it, but I do wonder if that is why Bush would not bring them back and now Obama is doing the same thing, sadly people have no problem supporting war, but try and support the soldiers when they are over here and people are up in arms over it, i say we bring them back with pay for a year or two... our soldiers deserve it

Chavez: Obama should explain Colombia bases
http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-20090810-713053.html
CECILIA LÓPEZ: It was a very complicated discussion. At that point they did not talk to us about the seven bases, over which there is a great deal of anger. Nor did they provide us with the document (the military base agreement).
Typical Obama play on words. He says US not creating bases. (no, he's just taking over existing ones)
Not unlike health care. he won't pull the plug on grandma, he'll just sign laws that deny her care. He's not going to skin a cat, he's just going to remove it's skin with his hunting knife. He's not going to bounce a ball, he's just going to throw it to the ground at which time it will come back to his hands so he can catch it due to it's materials and physics. He's not winking at you, he just temporarily closed one eye. He's not coughing, he's just clearing his throat.
So I'm not surprised he's playing his tired games with our South American neighbors. Speaking out of 6 sides of his mouth depending on who happens to be listening. Not unlike his denegrating Pennsylvanians to his wealthy San Francisto suporters during his money-grabbing campaign.
Anybody who thinks the country was in bad shape when Bush left office, just wait 3.5 years.

Many people supporting him during the campaign bellowed he'd end the war. All he's done is expand it and look for new places to start other wars.
Mexican American War - Polk (D)
WWI - Woodrow Wilson (D)
WWII - FDR (D)
Korea - Truman (D)
Vietnam - Johnson (D)

Johnson was a total disaster expanding Vietnam. During the draft none-the-less! so people elect another democrat in hopes of winding down war. That's like squirting a fire hose full of gasoline on fire in hopes of extinguishing it.

Obama is trying, it's a uphill battle fighting against the party of "NO", but I think he is doing a great job so far overall, just making a few bad choices along the way as do all great presidents
as for the troops, if he doesn't start bring them home prior to his term being up, he can forget another 4 years, so I am sure he will bring them home

I don't think it will take that long! I am so tired of the US being the policeman of the globe. If he diverts us from his failures here by nosing into others' business, our foreign policy will drop to an all time low. His tactics are too extreme and definitely leading us into socialism. I want my country back ! No more wars, no more government take overs.
