View Full Version : Dean: "There Will Be Primaries" For Dems Who Vote Against Public Option

Former Democratic National Committee chair Howard Dean fired one of the clearest warning shots at hesitant Democratic lawmakers on Thursday, insisting that if the party was unable to produce a health care bill with a public plan, there would be electoral consequences. "I do think there will be primaries as the result of all this, if the bill doesn't pass with a public option," Dean said, in a phone interview with the Huffington Post. The former Vermont governor added the caveat that he thought "cooler heads" would ultimately prevail and that a government run option for insurance coverage would be passed. But his remarks are some of the most threatening yet to be directed at Democrats from within the party. Dean, who is a keynote speaker at the Netroots Nation conference at Pittsburgh this week, said he was "in favor" of holding recalcitrant senators and congressman accountable on health care related issues.

It is the electorate, not Howard Dean, who controls/causes electoral consequences.

It is the electorate, not Howard Dean, who will hold senators and congressmen/women accountable, if they vote for a bill the majority of Americans don't want.

Most Americans know a public option will lead to a single payer plan, which BO has advocated and Barney Frank agrees that a public option is its avenue.

It's more likely that we will see a few Democrats decide that they might be better off joining the Republican party if they want to keep their seats. IMO

As Americans, I believe it is incumbent upon us to expose "misinformation" wherever and whenever we see it.

Our Leader has kindly provided us with a vehicle to do exactly this:

Thank you.

Insane, indeed. More stong-arm tactics.

Doesn't Mr. Dean realize people don't like being threatened or told what to do?

Keep it up, Mr. Dean.

Howard Dean, who's is so well known for his scream...is a nobody and hasbeen.

No, nobody likes threats especially from someone like him. Now, if we knew all of the other threats that are being said behind closed doors to Democrats in Congress, that may interesting...

Bet Rham is busy these days. JMO

What? In the 2004 Iowa Democratic caucuses he came in third and lost the nomination for president?

I agree with Dean…

Co-ops do not work

We need public option

Dems need to take heed, there will be primaries for those who vote against public option

And there will be primaries for those who pass this bill, as well!

I wonder how Dean will feel about his threats to Dems now that the White House is seeming to back away from the public option. Is he going to threaten Obama, too?
This made me laugh out loud!!

This whole administration is starting to look like a fly caught in a spider web. They just keep flailing and changing directions depending on which way the political winds blow.

Have you seen the Health Care ads on TV which lambast dems ( dems blasting dems) in their respective district because they oppose the HC bill? See link below

On top of that the article I read yesterday, says the White House has spent 50 million alone on ads so far and is expected to spend a lot more in the following months.

And how much was it they spent on redesigning their website? Some horrible amount I think.
IMO

18 million right? :w00t:

Daniel, they want to forget that and come back with huge victory in 2010, LOL. Dean's 50 state strategy started right after the 2004 election, and won big time in 2006 and even bigger in 2008. Picked up 7 Red States, that had voted for Bush in 2004, and no Senators left in the NEast. So they can target all the 80 seats they want, I know why they are kicking and screaming, and ranting and raving on the TV..... 2010 election will be at pitch feaver next year at this time..... they are screaming too, soon. Timing is everything. They should be planning and saving their energy for next Spring. When one rants and raves ALWAYS, people tend to have deaf ears. IMHO.

That's pretty much how I received that little message from Howard. WOW, I am stunned at the open, blatant bullying going on in the press from dem to dem....:scared: JMO

The guy from NY was the last straw for me as far as giving credit to some of the latest faux pas in the democratic party. FGS, he admits he would be willing to vote the opposite of what 80% of his constituents want in an effort to get to a single payer system. I hope his people are paying close attention.

Wow, Daniel. That scares me. I see it as the POTUS making a blatant threat that borders on blackmail.

It seems that free speech isn't "free" after all. It comes at a price for some if their opinions run contrary to those who decide just what thoughts are allowed. IMO

The New York Times explains that the public option "is a new government insurance program akin to Medicare."
• CNN writes that by giving Americans a public option, private insurers would have to drive down costs.
• A blog from The Grio proposes solutions to the proposed public option's potential problems.
• The Washington Post hosts an interactive chart with real world examples. For example, if you already have insurance through your employer, do you stand to gain or lose with public health care?
• Oh, and what about home nurses? Will this idea survive?
