Hi dinojen!! :seeya: I could only check up on it on the computer and saw that Tiger finished at +1 today. I'm really proud of Tom Watson though ~ wow!!

Not sure Watson can sustain it but Links type golf has always been his forte..........Who knows?.........Tiger's swing looked a little out of balance today but you can never count him out..........The difference between him and everyone else, other than being the greatest of all time coming off a bad shot, is his ability to play at a level to stay among the leaders in every tournament..........I've never seen anything like it.............Anyone who plays golf knows what I mean..........

Tom Watson just tee'd off on the first and got a birdie.. continues to have a share of the lead... love it..

Tiger tees off in approx. an hour from now and it's live on TNT.. have to get ready for work.. so will have to see if I can pick it up on the internet.. at least listen to it...:tonguewag:

They are saying the cut will most likely be a +2 or maybe +3 as of right now..

Have a good day everyone... will check back later..

:crying: WHOA... Tiger might not make the cut... what a shock.. He's putting for another bogey on the 12th.. so he's got 6 holes to knock off a few strokes.. this is just mind blowing..

Tiger definately does not seem to be on his game this week. Happy that Watson is doing good though, so if not Tiger than I can root for Watson

dinojen

:crying: Totally BUMMED... but now that it seems like a given that Tiger is flying home.. I'm in shock.. just in shock... John Daly plays the weekend and Tiger goes home.. never thought I would see the day...:tonguewag:

So now it's on to root for Tom Watson... love him.. think it would be great and Jack Nicklaus would be ecstatic...

Guess we will see what happens tomorrow.. lots of good golf still ahead..

You didn't miss much Sunstar.. wow.. he just had one bad thing after another and no matter how hard he tried.. just got worse.. Like Lee Westwood said who played with him.. everyone has an off day and today was Tiger's, he said he had never seen anything like it.

I'll be rooting for Tom too... think it would be great.. I think if he can pull it off it will tie him with number of wins with Vardon from years ago..6 British Open wins... now that's history.. and would be great.

Watson all by himself in the lead.. -5 just tee'd off the 3rd hold, both him and Marino are in one of those lovely bunkers... how the heck they get out of those darn holes beats me... I'd be in there all day...lol:tonguewag:

Tom has always been my favorite...I would REALLY love to see him pull this off.

It was good to see John Daly's name up there again. It would be great if he could somehow pull his act together to be able to play like he did when he first came on the scene.
I would be thrilled if either Sergio or John pulled this off and won this thing or the kid Rory McIllory.

dinojen
07-18-2009, 12:46 PM
Well... Watson has the lead by two... he's still at -5 under the others are making some mistakes.

Can't believe that there is a rule once you are 60 you cannot play the British Open.. that seems kind of unfair...

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090716/ap_on_re_eu/glf_tim_dahlberg071609

These guys under Watson can't get too far back, this course seems very hard to pick up strokes... Tiger found that out yesterday.. one hole can blow you away...

dinojen
07-18-2009, 01:36 PM
Watson still leading.. loving this... by one stroke with Marino and Fisher one stroke back..

Did you all hear Fisher's story.. his wife is expecting their first child.. he has his pager.. beeper.. phone whatever and he said if he gets the call.. he's gone.. (how much do you want to bet he doesn't get the call even if she does go into labor).. not if he's going to be in his first possible final pairing .. especially for the British Open.. amazing young player.. just like Marino..

Great stories in this tournament.

If this is Scotland's summer... I hate to see what their winters are like:tonguewag:

dinojen
07-18-2009, 01:46 PM
3 tied for the lead now.. oops..make that two.. Marino just got a bogey.. so 2 at the lead.. Watson and Aussie Goggin. 3 under...

Gotta go to the store... enjoy golf.. will check back later..

dinojen
07-18-2009, 02:46 PM
Wow... go to the store for like 20 mins. and come back and the whole leaderboard changes...

Goggin leading.. with Watson one back and poor Marino all the way back at even..

Looks like future new dad is going to be tied for the lead...

dinojen
07-18-2009, 02:58 PM
I know I'm talking to myself.. but that's okay..

Watson just made an amazing putt and it just put himself back on top of the leaderboard with Goggin and Fisher... this guy has been amazing all week long.. he has the next hole that is makeable from the tee... possible eagle or birdie...

Don't ever count the old guys out...

Fisher and Goggin in the clubhouse with Watson just teeing off on the 17th

On the green in 2.. possible birdie for Tom

He's out... but now he's in the tall grass on the other side of the fairway.. this is going to be like a double or triple bogey I bet... OUCH..

I hear ya.. haven't been on a course in years but hope that changes next year.. after a little tweaking of a cantankerous knee...lol.

I saw that.. but at least he made his birdie.. slow and steady goes the way... no rush...

My Mom just called.. she has it on too...

Wow what a gorgeous drive Watson just did.. he's hitting almost every fairway... knock on wood...

dinojen

Dang bogey for Watson... so that puts him at 2 under.. but... Westwood is in trouble.. shot out of the high grass.. missed the fairway and went to the left back into the tall grass so it's possible he could lose a stroke or two...

Everyone is trying to get into the clubhouse with like a 1 under..

Westwood is in short thick rough.. got it on the green but looks like a two putt.

Watson just had a beautiful drive.. right in the middle of the fairway...

I was going to start this thread out with the pairings and tee off times of the players.. but when I went to the Golf Channels website because the PGA web only had a pdf link... I ran across this...

LMBO.. the PGA is fining Tiger Woods for his comments about the official putting Padrig Harrington on the clock for his play on the 16th hole...

I found Tiger's stance on the issue fantastic.. and I think what he said to Padrig on the green after they finished play fantastic too... jmo..

CHASKA, Minn. – Tiger Woods will be fined by the PGA Tour for his public criticism of a rules official after winning the Bridgestone Invitational, a tour official said Monday.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the Tour does not publicize fines.

Woods was bothered after his four-shot victory Sunday because he and Padraig Harrington were put on the clock at the par-5 16th. He said that caused Harrington to rush three difficult shots, leading to triple bogey.

European Tour chief referee John Paramor told Woods and Harrington they were being timed.

Woods said he told Harrington after it was over, “I’m sorry that John got in the way of a great battle.”

Paramor said the final pairing was well behind most of the back nine, but officials gave them time to catch up. They were still 17 minutes out of position on the 16th tee, when they were put on the clock.

http://www.thegolfchannel.com/tour-insider/woods-fined-criticism-rules-official-31286/?hj=xfs

Actually I don't see how Tiger's comments were disparaging to the officials... but that's jmo...

Woods' criticism shows deep respect for Harrington
Tiger Woods wouldn't have sounded off after his victory at Firestone if he didn't think so highly of Padraig Harrington, says AP Golf Writer Doug Ferguson. The two great friends and rivals will tee it up together again on Thursday and Friday.

HASKA, Minn. (AP) -- Tiger Woods didn’t take much time to celebrate his 70th career victory on the PGA Tour, and not just because he was on Hazeltine National at dawn Monday to get ready for the PGA Championship.

Woods, so careful to avoid controversy throughout his career, stepped out of character after winning the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational.

One question into his interview, he shifted attention away from his late heroics at Firestone -- an 8-iron from 178 yards over the water that stopped a foot from the hole for birdie -- by blaming the anticlimactic finish on a rules official.

Woods was perturbed that he and Padraig Harrington were put on the clock at the pivotal 16th hole Sunday, and suggested that Harrington was rushed into three poor shots that led to triple bogey. What had been one of the most compelling duels of the year gave way to another inevitable Woods victory.

Not only did Woods identify the rules official -- European Tour Chief Referee John Paramor -- he later shared with the media what he told Harrington on the 18th green.

“Like I was telling him out there, ‘I’m sorry that John got in the way of a great battle,’ because it was such a great battle for 16 holes, and we’re going at it head-to-head, and unfortunately that happened.”

Hope they have a great round on Thursday... can't wait... love that they are teamed together and with Rich Beem too...

Tiger says that, contrary to news reports, there was no fine.

Yeah I read that earlier today.. either he was being kind or they decided not to fine him...

Can't wait for Thursday.. Tiger and Padrig and Rich Beem.. what a great threesome..

Tiger is use to it... but some of these others.. have no idea what he deals with every tournament he plays in.

It would be too bad to have the very 1st asian man win - and have it seem as though all we want is to hear from Tiger.

I think that's probably why he didn't give an interview. The moment belongs to Yang.

Tiger had a very nice interview on the Golf Channel. In fact, they are analysising the round right now. Nick Noblo thinks that "Tiger thought everyone would fold" so this could be a blessing in disguise. I don't know but all this "changing the swing stuff" does not appear to have helped his game. Congrats Y E Yang. Becha Mr Yang will be playing Tiger in the President's Cup.

Tiger has always been gracious.. and I'm sure he is happy for what Mr. Yang accomplished today...

Tiger had a great week of golf, just like Padrig did until today... it just wasn't it their golf bag today...

I have never seen Tiger miss some many putts by mini inches.. but I will say congrats to Yang.. he held up to the pressure of playing with golf's best.. which isn't easy to do with the media and the crowds.. he did good.

I have been reading the blog at the Golf news. Many people have written in calling Tiger a poor sport. I thought that myself when he stormed off 18. Not collecting his second place plate and standing with Yang to give his congradulations was very tacky, in my opinion. Tom Watson stood shoulder to shoulder with Cink after his heartbreaking lost in the British Open. I was sad to see such poor sportsmenship on Tiger's part.

I look at it two ways.. yes I know many people say it showed poor sportsmanship.. he did multiple interviews after.. was very gracious to Yang on the 18th green.. and if Tiger would of shown for the awards ceremony .. I honestly think it would of taken away from Yang.. it was his time to celebrate and for have it be about him.. quite possibly Tiger thought it best he wasn't there.. for it to be Yang's moment..

JMHO

Actually need to edit this a tad..

He warmly congratulated Yang on the 18th green..then went through the entire post-match interview process and answered all the questions, giving Yang credit for making big shots on 13 and 14 to turn the match around, and stating accurately that he putted horribly. His interview was carried live on Golf Channel and ESPN News. What CBS said was they had hoped to grab him before they had to go off the air, but he had gone into the scoring trailer to sign his card - just like Yang did, then went right into the press tent and did his interviews. You can see the interview all over the web.

Oh by the way... if I recall there is no second place trophy at the PGA Championship.. The British Open is the only tournament that gives a second place trophy... so why should Tiger of been there...

Check out post #209. I though, at the time that Tiger was extremely ungracious on the 18th with Yang. Particulary in not putting out and letting Yang have the last putt, which so many others have done for Tiger in his wins. Actually, I don't know if there is a second place trophy but numerous people have posted on the Golf blog that there is one.

Didn't mean to sound snarky.. and I do apologize.. if I did.

There are many reasons why they putt in the order they do.. why Tiger went first I have no idea.. maybe Yang gave him the nod to do so.. maybe not.. I have never seen Tiger be arrogant or ungracious on the course.. but then again that is just my opinion. I watched him shake hands with Yang.. congratulate him and speak very highly of him in many interviews afterwards..

There is only one PGA Major tournament that gives out more than one trophy and that is the British Open. All the other majors, the Master's in April... one trophy.. the US Open in June.. one trophy.. the British Open in July gives a silver plate to the second place winner and also a medallion to the top amateur..the PGA the fourth weekend after the US Open.. gives one trophy known as the Wanamaker..actually the winner gets a replica.. a smaller version.. they don't actually get the real Wanamaker tropy.. ( a little bit of history)

Many people have different opinions.. some like Tiger.. some don't.. and of course will find anything he does in a negative way. I think he handled his loss very well.. congratulated the winner and gave him his own time on the 18th green accepting his award.. with no interference my Tiger Woods being there. It was Yang's win and his time to celebrate, was not necessary for Tiger to be there.

God only knows... being Yang doesn't speak English could of been anything.

I didn't know this but the women on the LPGA have to be able to speak English.. the rule isn't the same on the PGA.. go figure... could of been about the hole.. I honestly don't know.

http://sports.espn.go.com/golf/news/story?id=3558577

Above link about LPGA making players speak basic English...

I didn't have a clue about that rule until this weekend... weird huh.

Hey thought of one more thing about this trophy bruhahaha... think of all the other majors.. there is not one except for the British Open that the runner up or second place finisher is there at the awards ceremony.. just watched several tapes of past award presentations.. the runner up is never there except for the British Open... hadn't even really thought about it till it was made an issue of after this weekend.
