My Mum and Dad

Please can you give your prayers to my dad who is really really poorly. He has Alzheimers and suffered a stroke a few weeks ago and a seizure since, which has set him back so much recently. He is very very weak and he is such a gentle person, who worked in the army, then as a carpenter and loves his family. It is awful to see him like this. Plse pray for him, because I am so worried for him at the moment. My mum has just got over breast cancer and this is so much to bear for her and she stays strong for me and my sis and I would just really appreciate it if some of you would pray for us as a family.

Alzheimers is such a terrible disease. My MIL was an Alzheimers victim...it was a difficult time in our lives.

You have friends here and I'm sure you do at home as well. Often times I think some of us are chosen to be strong and to provide comfort for the ones around us in terrible times. It is difficult but a blessing to be chosen to be that one, I think.

I am so sorry you and your family are going through this. I lost my father from Alzheimers related illness. Alzheimers is very, very rough. I "lost" my dad long before Dad passed away. He was not himself any more. It broke my heart.

Some of the other posters have suggested soothing music... it was very helpful with Dad. Also, you may see if you can find someone to teach you Reiki massage techniques, if you have not tried that. That seemed calming to Dad also.

PS: Here's a story to make you smile. While eating dinner with my parents a few years after Dad had been diagnosed, I was trying to check his mental awareness. I said, "Dad, how many children do you have?" (I'm an only child.) Dad looked at my mom and said, "Jean, how many children do we have?" She told him, "One, just one."

I took Dad's hand and held it and said, "Dad, it's me! I'm your daughter." He looked at me long and hard, and said...."No... you're way too old to be my daughter!" :biggrin: You've gotta smile!

I have worn my cancer braclets every day for years. I do the walk for cancer every year. I make the braclets and ask for donations for the cancer braclets to donate to the ACS.

Here is a recent message I received which I viewed today so I think it was today. I hope it is ok to post it.

My dear Dad passed away in the early hours of this morning and me, my Mum and my Sis were with him. He was really struggling these past few weeks and was beginning to suffer so, and I hope that it was some comfort to him that we were there with him. I miss him already, but I didn't want him to continue suffering as he has and I know that he is with the angels and his mum and dad now.

Oh..Nic..I am so so so sorry. I know the pain of losing a parent. I'm glad you were there with him..and what a sense of humour he had.

My prayers are with you and your family..now and onward. I've never really "gotten over" my mother's passing...she lives with me everyday..everything I do, it seems...comforting many times..sad many others. All in all...I believe..that they "stay with us".
