I just watched the historic vote. Senator Al Franken was sitting in as Senate President at the time. She will be sworn in on Saturday. I think she will be a great justice.

We don't agree on much but certainly do about Judge Sonia. The best thing about the entire event is Souter leaving the Court and the Town. I think Sonia is terrific and a wonderful addittion like Roberts and Alito and my favorite Ruth Ginsburg.
I saw this also. I will be anxious to read some of her opinions and concurrences.
It seems odd a Senator who has been in only a month + would preside over a SC vote? It makes no sense to me. You wonder why we are 11 trillion in debt.

I almost never get to watch news during the day, but just happened to turn on MSNBC for the final portion of the vote and Sen Franken's announcement.
Wonderful day!
As a Latina, it is a proud day for me.

It is typical to give that job to the new guy. imo
Not SC specifically, but in general.

:rose::patriot: Yippee!
Hope she gets her wish and they televise some of the SC proceedings.
He read his part from cue cards (not very well, either), plus somebody was whispering things to say to him.
I'm sure Harry put him in the chair to make some kind of point that's wasted on those of us who actually know the historical significance of things that go on on the floor of the Senate.
I saw Harry Reid and some others, Kennedy, McCain, Lott and Frist when I was seated the Senate gallery some years back on my trip to DC.

It seems odd that Biden did not preside over this very "historic" vote, since he is technically the Senate President.

I agree ABC...she's a very smart woman and very confident! She didn't allow herself to be intimidated by the men..;). And you are right about Souter! Only place we don't agree is Ginsburg, :).
