Seventy-one percent (71%) of U.S. voters say President Obama’s policies have increased the size of the federal deficit, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey.

Five percent say that his policies have cut the deficit?

Right, and these people are living on what planet?

I, for one, would be astounded if the deficit shrank after the government engaged in deficit spending for purposes of fiscal stimulation.

They don't call it 'deficit spending' for nothing.

Yeah - what kind of silly poll is that? Yep, we're in a recession, trying to prevent it from being a depression, a worse depression, or a full on crash of our economy - heck yeah, the deficit is going up! Some of that money is loans to banks and such who are on the hook to pay it back (and some have already paid it back - others who collapse will never be able to do so), some of it is pure stimulus, going to improve our much neglected infrastructure - that money doesn't come back, but a fair bit of it needed to be spent anyway.

The deficit is growing, because that's how we avoided the crash that just a few months ago appeared inevitable, that was happening, that drove a few businesses out of business, as banks grew so overstressed and over-indebted that they stopped making the loans that keep business moving.
