Are you familiar with any of the happenings in Jefferson Cty/Birmingham? One of the biggest messes ever........and they just voted for a domed (doomed) stadium.
MO
I have been keeping up with it, through family that still lives in the area. My first thought was to cut the commission completely. They caused this whole mess.
Sheriff Hale had a point when he said it was a "man made unnatural disaster".

From what i understand, the governor has thus far, refused to send in the Nation Guard, and declare a state of emergency because it was not a "Man made or natural disaster" as is the law in declaring a state of emergency. Sheriff Hale dubbed it a "Man Made UN natural disaster" since the county is basically broke because they were forced to stop spending an illegal occupational tax they had been collecting for YEARS. I have to wonder how the county ever functioned before the illegal tax was put into place.

I called my mom, and she confirmed that even though the tax was found to be illegal, it is still be cut from my dad's pay check every week. It is in "escrow" until a new illegal tax can be enacted.
Why I say a "new illegal tax" is because the tax is on people who WORK in Jefferson County, and MANY do not live in Jefferson County, so they have no representation.

Things haven't been good there for years. Here's one example of the happenings:
http://www.al.com/news/birminghamnews/metro.ssf?/base/news/1228209382122110.xml&coll=2
Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford was arrested Monday after being charged in a federal indictment that accuses the former Jefferson County commissioner with receiving more than $236,000 in expensive clothes, designer watches and cash to pay his personal debt as part of a conspiracy to funnel county financial business to two of his friends.
Some people don't deserve words....:cursing:
