The Obama administration announced plans on Tuesday to distribute $2.4 billion in grants for battery manufacturing, mostly for electric vehicles. The money, which in most cases will be matched by a like amount from the recipient, was liberally sprinkled in the hard-hit auto manufacturing belt. Some of the money is for factories to make battery chemicals; some for plants that make battery components or assemble cells into packs.

What happens to the old batteries when they need to be replaced? We were told by a car dealer that the battery is only good for about 5 years. Do they have a recycling program for all the chemicals and other components of the batteries?

Bringing green cars and green jobs to America is very important. Great move.

I have to say that I like this idea. It will create jobs. Finally. Not 2 million, but at least 6800 to start so that's a good thing.
