Reagan administration economist Art Laffer appeared on CNN’s Newsroom yesterday to debate health care with CAP Senior Fellow Judy Feder. At the height of the debate, Laffer offered a curious argument against health care reform: LAFFER: I mean, if you like the Post Office and the Department of Motor Vehicles and you think they’re run well, just wait until you see Medicare, Medicaid, and health care done by the government

OMG. I swear I can't take much more of this idiocy.

DG - I will have to wait a couple of days before I'm in a location to watch the video, but just reading that quote has floored me.

Some days you just don't know whether to laugh or cry.

LOL Oh Please!

Why not take it out of context-- lets put up the ENTIRE quote shall we?

Art Laffer says:

"The unfunded liabilities of Medicare and Medicaid and the projection going out to what these costs will be, I think she is grossly underestimating the costs you’re going to see from these programs and the SINGLE PROVIDERS real liability. I mean, if you like the Post Office and the Department of Motor Vehicles and you think they’re run well, just wait until you see Medicare, Medicaid, and health care done by the government."

Judy Feder was talking about how Medicare and Medicaid will become MORE secure because of the single payer system. He was saying there are systems already FAILING without more put upon our plate. Listen to the entire conversation or "spin it" if it makes your day...

Golly, wasn't the WH just whining about O being taken out of context, and here we have this.

Question, since I'm new here: is thinkprogress considered a reliable source around here?

Quite!

Wasn't it you Daniel Green who was upset about the video complication of Obama saying different things about health care?

One must wonder. I have watched as blog site after blog site e.g., HuffnPuff, Daily Kos, etc are linked to as “reliable sources” from those who read those sites. However when one who does not read those sites links to a blog, they are castigated and told to put up a "real site or a MSM site-- no blog"!! Just the opposite of what is practiced.:blushing:

Of course, again you are taking his words that Medicare and Medicaid is government run and running out of money and he wonders how they can handle yet a THIRD. Really not that hard to see what he is saying.

it still means exactly the same thing, lol

Right, he is saying with Medicare and Medicaid is government run and running out of money and he wonders how they can handle yet a THIRD.

I dunno. There are instructions for reporting nonbelievers on the white house website.

" Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov."

Humm since I have said the government and Art Laffer said the government-- is there something I do not know? :scared:

*screaming in faux confusion*

Good grief, has someone come into control other than the government that I am unaware of?

LOL

If you can't see that Laffer was saying that two programs are already in financial jeopardy in areas and adding a third would be chaotic for the government I don't know what to say...lol

Pssssttt . . . remember who you're dealing with. These are the same people who support the government takeover of their health care and the ones who no longer support free speech.

Conyracted out to a more efficient private contractor & apparently like everything connected with the previous maladministration there didn't appear to be any oversight of the contract.

Hey, I think you have a point there. I'll cancel my email to headquarters. For everyone waiting to get something for free, I think the govt should send around Krispy Kreme trucks.
IMO

Oh, I don't know. Aren't they planning to put a tax on Krispy Kremes?

Yeah, and Indian health care...now there's a real feather in the government run program hat.

Yea, now there's a program we hope the government will expand on.

That's how I took it. Gee, maybe he should have used a teleprompter so he could have been much clearer or at least put it in simpler terms so all would get it.
