This past Friday my brother Rusty was killed during a home invasion in Melbourne, Florida.

My other brother Shane is in ICU after having been shot three times in the stomach.

Rusty and I lost our mother to breast cancer in 1987 and all we had was each other for the longest time. We ultimately chose dramatically different paths in life and we hadn't spoken in about 5 years.

My Dad and his Brother didn't speak for 20 years, after the death of their Mother.

It took a phone call from an Aunt to tell my Dad that his Brother's wife of like, 50 years, had just passed away, for Dad to make a phone call.

He was very hesitant at first. But he bit the bullet and followed through.

They live a county away from one another and since making up, my Dad is down visiting him at least once a month.

I was up in your neck of the woods last week and thought of you.

It's believed to be drug related and there are suspects but no arrests.

Rusty was able to get the mask off one of the men before being shot. Shane was just trying to get money out of his pocket to give to them.

There were three children in the house. Rusty's son, 10 years old, snuck the younger kids out and hid in the woods.

Let this be a warning to everyone - you get involved with the drug trade of any kind in any form and it will not end well. this reminds me of the guy on AGT...the "chicken catcher"...I think a wonderful human being (although, yeah, I don't know him at all)...he sang "Tomorrow Never Comes"..and did it even better than Garth Brooks, IMO. The message there is so strong - what Hannah has said..what many of us feel, but many many of us don't really "follow through" on it - we get caught up in the day to day things..worrying about the grocery or rent/mortgate money or arguing/anguishing over homework and chores..and we forget to even tell those we live with how much we love them each day. It may seem like a "routine" thing - but I still try to make sure my kid and I say "I love you" to each other before going to sleep..never go to bed Angry or Upset..because Tomorrow never comes..it's always Today. And, Yesterday - Beatles captured it...Yesterday is Tomorrow's Today - or that's my interpretation.

I'm so sorry Hannah...I'm glad to hear they caught one guy (maybe more to catch?)...

I want to thank everyone for their kind words and well wishes. It's amazing how much it means to have people provide comforting words during a time like this.

Saturday I attending the memorial service for my brother. Approximately 200-250 people were there, squeezed into a little church. I didn't know the majority of them nor did they know me but there was a lot of caring going on in that room and it was very heart warming to see that my brother had touched so many lives.

My other brother is still in critical condition. I cannot release any more information as he is still in protective custody due to one suspect still being at large. I was unable to see him due to a last minute scheduling conflict but my parents will let him know I was there.

My nephew is doing as well as can be expected. The other two children were 4 and 5 and are not related. He is a little hero, though, for certain.

I'll try to provide updates as they come.

Thank you for the update. I've been thinking of your brother Shane and wondering if he pulled through yet. Still praying he will be ok, and that they catch the other guy.

Your poor parents. Losing one child would just kill me, to lose one and have the other in bad shape, I can't imagine how they must be feeling right now.

Poor little hero, I pray for him the most. This incident will stay w/him for the rest of his life. Give him hugs from us if you can.
