ST. JOHNS - The Apache County Superior Court Thursday set a sentencing date during a status conference for the 9-year-old boy who pled guilty to one count of negligent homicide.

Tuesday, Sept. 22, has been set aside for the juvenile's disposition hearing. The hearing will begin at 9:30 a.m. and could run all day. Before then, another status conference has been set for Thursday, Aug. 20, at 11:30 a.m.
The juvenile was arrested in November 2008 for allegedly shooting to death his father and 39-year-old Timothy Romans, a man who stayed with the family. The boy was 8 at the time.
In February, he pled guilty to one count of negligent homicide connected to the death of Romans. The charge relating to his father's death was dropped.

Hmmmmmmm, negligent homicide = murderer :thumbdown: . Not really accurate.

1 count negligent homicide - not murder. A really sad plea bargain from a prosecutor who appears to have known they didn't have the evidence to call him a murderer either, accepted by a child who wanted to get out of solitary confinement and see his mommy again.

A sad story that happens to be yet another proof of why there should be much stricter gun control or that gun sales should be outlawed/stopped altogether.

And, yes, I dont care about the second amendment. It is an outdated one and should be repealed.

There are some new filings up on the apache county website. From what I can understand of them the defense atty is asking for a new judge because apparently the presiding judge said that juvenile detention is the best option and that wasn't part of the plea agreement that was put on record. I guess he isn't going to be sentenced anytime soon.
