Hiya Des, wasn't that just the best?? I have been emailing it to my entire family and insisting we do something like this with the next wedding..........:tongueside:
I can only imagine how much fun the reception was, after a wedding like that!
Jill and Kevin were on The Today Show this morning and the rest of the party will be on tomorrow to perform the dance.

I guess I'll be the one with the unpopular opinion here. I saw the clip of the ceremony and I wasn't too thrilled about it. I think the ceremony should be a serious event that shows the couple take their vows seriously, especially if done in a church. IMO, the couple looked like they were goofing off and partying or doing a comedy skit rather than dedicating their lives to each other. The reception and honeymoon, IMO is the place to let it all hang out and party, not the church. JMO, no offense to the happy couple. It is, after all, their choice.

oh my word! I'll join you DesertStars in the little tiny group that- wow!
I'm just not real familiar with folks dancing before the wedding! Inside a place of worship! *thud*
(and I'm a bit skeered- as tomo I will be attending a wedding- the reception is actually being held tonite, and personally- I do not want to see the bride bouncing down a church aisle with her 40 longs- but it could happen- she wore a tube top to her hubby's funeral a few years back)
At least there was no grinding and humping that I could tell from this wedding party- lol!

OMG I am laughing and crying at the same time!!!!!!! That was WONDERFUL!! God bless them, may they have a long and happy and joyful marriage!
I looked very closely around the church, especially the altar area and it looks very much like it could be a Lutheran church. I am Lutheran. Although that one is probably ELCA because there is a woman pastor. My church is LCMS, we don't ordain women. (Those are two "branches" or synods, of the Lutheran denomination.)
Oh wow wow wow....would LOVE to see a wedding like that in person. Maybe I can talk my son into it.

Savannah, yes, it was a Lutheran church in St. Paul, Minnesota. I googled and found an article. Believe it or not, the bride said they only practiced about 90 minutes on it. What a joyous celebration! It actually made me cry when the bride appeared and started to dance down the aisle. We have a family wedding coming in September, and my nephew (the one getting married) is a notorious danceoff king at other peoples' wedding receptions. I wish they would do this.

Oh I'll have to join the minority here, I wonder if they attended that church often and felt a deep respect for what it stands for, attending other weddings and funerals in it, or were they one of those that ask can we get married in your church on the.....type of couple. I guess if the minister of that church didn't care well...what more can I say! LOL

I thought it was joyful and loving and shows how much the wedding party cares for this couple as well that they would "embarass" (not the word i'm looking for but hopefully you know what I mean) themselves in that way.
I enjoyed it and find it more appealing than couples who have animals as attendants.
At first I thought it would have been more appropriate to do it after the ceremony as they were leaving, but thinking back on my own wedding, had we done something like that, I maybe would not have been so nervous during the ceremony that I had a panic attack and almost passed out .

So, he agreed. OMG he cracked up, said he wanted to watch the whole thing.....he LOVED it.
My pastor's on vacation right now but I can't wait to show him when he gets back.
I just knew it was a Lutheran church, one look at the altar told me that.

I can't help but think how sad it is that you don't realize the house of god is a place to celebrate, not just the coming together of this couple through his goodness and grace but of him, our love for him and joy for his love of us & the gifts he bestows upon us (like a lifetime of love between two people).

Dancing to such a tune and down the aisle..no still doesn't get a 10 in my book but hey if it does in yours more power to you:smile:
Times they are a changing, I'm well aware of that in my everyday life..let me tell you! Yes I might fall off the pew if the next wedding I attend they are doing the Electric Slide down the aisle but I will laugh at myself when I come to! and have to realize I'm in the minority as usual LOL!
I still like the traditional weddings, I know they don't guarantee a long and happy life, but hey I like picnics with baskets and checkered red tablecloths and all that stuff to so...just me!
Thanks and I'm sure you are a very good person and I respect that.

I enjoyed the video as much as anyone and got a good laugh.
But when I realize it's REAL and in a REAL church......Not for me or mine. It's smacks of disrespect and borders on the sacrilegious. I have a problem with a church being quite that liberal. Boy am I gonna get smacked down. So be it.
Of course, to each his own and I certainly wish them well.

Music at funerals, brings to mind this scene from The Big Chill:

and this one from Love, Actually:

In my own life I have attended family funerals where Oh, Danny Boy and She's Gonna Fly by Collin Raye was played. Both songs brought everyone to tears. The one by Colin Raye was particuarly significant because my Aunt died from Alzheimers.

nope Patriot- it's all true! I was at the visitation and she wore a tank top and track pants (just picture Rosie O'Donnell but older, sans bra) and those that attended the actual funeral got to see the tube top. (this was actually brought up last nite at the party)
today at the wedding- I counted 3 guys inside the church wearing ball caps (hubby noticed they took them off during the prayer) and several flip flops (mostly on the men).
I think I was one of two females in attendance that wore a dress (the other was very young, goth and all in black) but no dancing today- that was all done last night.

I know what you mean! I think it must be the attitude that has developed over the last 5-6 years. Many people don't know how to dress for certain occassions IMO. I know some people who find it perfectly okay to wear jeans, t-shirts and flip flops to any function. It boggles the mind. And what can you really say..go home and change? I don't get it. LOL. I like to dress up for special occassions. Other people must like it too because I usually get lots of people come up and compliment me and tell me how great I look. Maybe the tube top wearers think they look good too. Naaaay....
I love the dancing by wedding party, but I am certain that my parents would not approve and neither would their church. My mom recently told me that her pastor had been shocked and horrified when he was presiding over a funeral recently and the deceased boy's family said a few words then played a CD of their loved one's favorite song. The song was Sweet Child of Mine by Guns & Roses!!!! This was in a VERY fundamentalist church. My mother said the pastor looked like he was going to faint. LOL.

I agree Spyder. I think God was smiling too when he saw the joy being expressed.
I was raised in the Catholic Church. We never missed mass. I remember back in the late 60s - early 70s, some of the teens wanted to have a guitar mass. After a lot of negotiating, the Bishop finally agreed they could have the guitar mass in the school cafeteria IF they could find a priest willing to say the mass, take down the cafeteria tables, set up chairs and restore the cafeteria to business as usual after the mass. The mass would have to be held on Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m., the same time the traditional mass would be held in the church. The teens kept their end of the deal.
The first Sunday the guitar mass had seating for 100 and the chairs were full and the next Sunday was SRO. By the 3rd Sunday, people were standing in the school hallways. The numbers at the 8:30 traditional mass were dwindling. Eventually the guitar mass was moved to the church and had the largest attendance of any of the masses. The other 3 Sunday masses continued with the traditional organ and choir. jmo
