On July 2, the U.S. military said an American soldier had disappeared after walking off his base in eastern Afghanistan with three Afghan counterparts and was believed to have been taken prisoner. A U.S. defense official said the soldier was noticed missing during a routine check of the unit on June 30 and was first listed as "duty status whereabouts unknown."

Bolded by me.

I'm wondering what this means. Talk about vague explanations. ???

Hey isn't Obama always saying that we need to just talk things out with our ememies and not get into war.

Why doesn't he just fly over there and sit down and have a nice talk with them and ask them to give our soldier back.........Obama says we Americans are bully's, so why doesn't he walk the talk and get over there and get it done with?

You think that would help - if we went over there and dropped bombs on them? Maybe this unfortunate soldier would miraculously be missed when the bombs fall? Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld had their opportunity but squandered it on Iraq.

The unfortunate soldier's name is Bowe (first name) he's from Ketchum, Idaho. So sorry, he along with his family and loved ones are in my thoughts.

watson: I never said one thing about a bomb. You side stepped the question.

I feel for this soldier. My son is a marine and his unit got back from Afghanistan last year minus 20 of their soldiers who were killed.

Obama is a double talker.

I guess I'm missing something here. Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld got us into that "war" in Afganistan - NOT Obama! Sounds like you expected Obama to put an end to the craziness in 6 short months? You said your son's unit got back minus 20 soldiers last year. A horrible shame. Hmmmm. Who was the president then?

Sorry for misinterpreting your other post. I think Obama's approach of talking to other world leaders instead of our usual heavy handedness could be more helpful - at least it's a starting point. We've been fighting in Afganistan for how many years now? What have we accomplished and how many of our kids have been killed?

I don't think our discussion belongs on this thread. There is a thread in "Politics" that would be more appropriate.

The soldier walked off his base. Please explain how that is President Obama's fault and why you think a mere conversation is going to resolve it. Thanks.

I didn't say it was Obama's fault.

Obama is the one that says that we need to just talk to our enemies and just go shake hands with them and be buddies. If it is that easy to talk to them, then he should just go ask them to return our soldier. I'm showing how ridiculous that would be.

My son's unit were still over there when Obama was president. They are going back over there this September. I don't expect Obama to do anything he doesn't want to do, but I expect him to walk the talk.

I feel for this soldier's family and for him. You are right, this doesn't need to be on this forum. I will post my views on the political forum.

"WASHINGTON – The American soldier who went missing June 30 from his base in eastern Afghanistan and was later confirmed to have been captured, said in a video posted by the Taliban that he's "scared I won't be able to go home." Like all those that have been captured in every war, and especially since 2001, we should all pray for his safe return. I personally have known captives in WWII and VN. Some made it home, some didn't. Let us all pray that this soldier does.

The Defense Dept. is reporting he may have left his base (in hostile territory) with Afghan soldiers to meet a woman. Also that he may have had behavioral problems in the past. Not the best place for a disciplinary problem. Anyway, he's in a terrible spot now and I dread what may happen.

I just want our troops home..I know my BIL and cousin have and are serving in Iraq many times and they tell me it is their job..well we need them here also..some are being sent over there 3 or 4 times and get hurt and they are forgotten..no one cares when they can no longer fight so many have PTS

this is what the Army did to my BIL he has been in the service for over 12 years since he got out of school he has been every where been to Iraq 3 times he was to be released he was going to get out of the Army they told him your going back to Iraq with your unit even though he only had 3 months left before he was released or he could sign up for another 2 years and be able to train others at Fort Knox KY in all his time in the Army he had never been stationed in the US but of course we told him not to chance it and he had to sign back up for 2 more years...THAT IS BULL IMO....they think they own our troops they do not treat them and their families very well they forget them when they can no longer fight and it is TIME TO BRING THEM HOME those people will never want us there they will never have peace and we owe it to him and his family to pray he is safe..NO MATTER WHAT..our troops are killing themselves they are out there and can not get jobs and it is very sad JMO

Just bring him home safe to his family..he has got to be scared to death..

“I’m scared, scared I won’t be able to go home. It’s very unnerving to be a prisoner.”

He is interviewed by his captors and is asked his views on the war, which he calls extremely hard. He talks about his desire to learn more about Islam and about the morale of US soldiers, which he says is low

dont beleive everything you read doc..I do not trust our own Goverment they do not want us to know the bad that is going on over there..

The 28-minute video, in which Bergdahl said he was "scared I won't be able to go home," provided the first public glimpse of the missing American. He said in the video he was lagging behind a patrol when he was captured, which conflicts earlier military accounts that indicated he left the base with three Afghans. The Pentagon gave no details of the kidnapping.

It's a shame that a thread that should be full of prayers and hope for this soldier, got dragged down by political issues.

No matter what happens, he is another young man facing an unimaginable situation.

My prayers are with him and his family. :rose:

if they are willing to talk, intel can be gathered from talks, maybe that would help a rescue mission, I would hope no one suggests if they call we hang up on them, never hurts to talk and it could help

don't believe me..watch the actual video from oreilly at below link. i am so disgusted. whatever happened to presuming the soldier in good faith till proven otherwise?

http://www.politicususa.com/en/FNC-Bergdahl

he even went so far as to insinuate if the taliban kills him..well then he is not our problem anymore.

this is not some fringe guy talking..this is one of their major military analysts.
