Taraha Shenice, 28, body found 3-7-2009
Jarniece LaTonya Hargrove, 31, body found 6-29-09

This is incredible. Is it because these women are African American and have had criminal pasts, that we are not hearing about this? They are women and have families who loved them! If this is one person, he is escalating. I hope LE gets the ball rolling and fast!

http://www.investigativepsych.com/Rocky%20Mount%20Serial%20Killer%20Geo%20Profile.ht m Here is an interesting link with a map of where the bodies have been found. I am white, but if I were a black woman in Rocky Mount I would be mad as hell about the lack of coverage on this. Where is Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton? Forget Nancy Grace. She will be covering Michael Jackson for months!

I agree with you worried. I am shocked that more hasn't been said/done about these women. Hopefully NOW they will ALL be fully investigated.

Three of these women were found pretty close together!

Thanks for all the links worried. Sure does sound like a serial killer abounds in NC. I must say I didn't read the last link because I have no faith in Dr Maurice Godwin. He is, imo, a quack. If you go to his personal website you'll see why I feel that way.

I'm from Rocky Mount and the women here both black and white are nervous as hell! We're worried that anyone can be next. Rocky Mount is a small town (60,000), this story just gor recognition in the Big paper the N & O this past Saturday. Our LE is not the brightest it apperars but if they are they r sure keeping info under wraps. The area where the bodies r being dumped is very rural, way out in the sticks , i drive on this road every Saturday on my way to work. This is a scary situation.

This sounds so much like the murdered women in that Louisiana town:

I think there are both black and white women in that case. Why no media attention there either? Probably because, sadly, the media doesn't seem to care (nor do the bulk of their readers/viewers) when the victims are drug users or prostitutes.

Hi Sandmannc,
I hope you drive by there with your doors locked! What are the locals saying? Why have there not been nationwide media stories? This makes me mad as hell! I don't care what their backgrounds are. These are human beings and I cannot believe this has been going on for YEARS! Does the local Law Enforcement have any idea who could be doing this? Any suspects? Thanks for coming here Sandmannc, it is good to get a local person!

Hi Kip,

POE? Do you mean POI (person of interest)? Not really. Some have theorized that it's someone in law enforcement because the later victims were fearful and wouldn't have gone with just anyone. Others have tried to tie it to similar killings in Atlantic City (IIRC), wondering if the perp moved.

I just watched the video, and they seem to hint but don't just say it - it appears all of these women were prostitutes, and worked the same street. Is that what's going on here? Prostitutes are being picked up from this one neighborhood and killed?

If that's the case, I think it's an extreme disservice not to just say it. If this is the case, there must be other black prostitutes in the area who have had very suspicious run-ins, or got away, who could be very helpful in stopping this ongoing crime.

I don't know if they were ALL prostitutes, but they all had drugs or something in their past. This town is not HUGE. They have around 55,000.00 people. To have this many people murdered and missing is astounding. It should make no difference what these women did in their lives. They are missing or dead and it is disgusting that the media has not been on it.

http://www.city-data.com/so/so-Rocky-Mount-North-Carolina.html There are 101 registered SO's in the city of Rocky Mount, North Carolina. That seems to be an extremely high number considering the population. Does the state of North Carolina offer free housing for SO's to live in Rocky Mount? Who knows how many more of them are not registered because they are homeless or have not been caught yet.

Worried, I understand your frustration but family members of the missing usually do play huge role in the investigations. They do get out there and hold fundraisers, get the word out, do some of the searching.

I understand that it seems like LE isn't doing all that much in this case - but the first line of defense, in this case, is to get off the streets. There is a fairly narrow population that is being targeted, and they are VERY vulnerable. There are women in that video who are still right there, still walking those same streets, and they are next up. Those women's families need to step up and take care of them now before it's too late - as it was for all the others.

This seems like a fairly easy problem to halt - unlike the DC shooter who was completely random - and what needs to be done at this point is prevent further victims, in my opinion.

But I do agree, this population doesn't get much police attention when they become crime victims. Sad.

Hi Rachel,
I understand what you are saying, but this has been going on for 5 years! According to locals, they are just now hearing about it because a bigger news station outside of Rocky Mount aired the story. I could never understand why a woman would put herself on the streets to begin with. I have learned that sadly, many are there because they have no where else to go. Many are there because "home" is worse than the streets. Some are there to continue to feed a drug habit that they are addicted to. Regardless, with all of these missing women and now 6 bodies found, LE should have made people aware of this years ago! We have come a long way, but unfortunately if you are a poor, African American woman and you are murdered, you will not get much press.

This case reminds me of the Green River Killer. At first' it didn't seem that the police were really working that case either.IMO I remember the families holding vigils and etc for all the women. I really believe it was the families who brought the Green River Killer to the attention of the public.IMO

It does appear' the perp is getting more aggressive with two women being found within a matter of months. I really hope the FBI, gets involved with this case.

Does anyone know how the bodies were found? I mean were they buried? How many more women in that area are missing?

ITA worried,

This case is no different then the West Mesa, New Mexico 11.

The facts are that 70% of serial killer victims are women living a high risk lifestyle. But the media/public only focuses on the few cases that are not, Ted Bundy’s victims as an example.

That's why the SB's get away with it for so long, kill so many; no one cares.

Of couse the victims families do, they weep just like everyone else, but the general public never learns about there suffering. And half of those that do lecture about morals, and pontificate about their so called superior up bring, instead of focusing on the SOB who killed the victims.

I saw that this past weekend a local group went in and sponsored a motorcycle convoy through the town to raise awareness. They rode by the fields where the women's bodies were found. Nobody can understand why it has taken so long to get LE attention.

What I don't get is why they didn't set up secret survellience devices after they found the first 2 or 3 bodies? Perhaps they could have gotten them on video dumping the bodies of the later ones and caiught them. It's a rural area but they could have installed the cameras on poles or trees. Certainly the land owner would have cooperated.

The way these murders have been handled is just a disgrace. I am embarrassed for them.

u would think they could of used some sort of surveillance or technical device to caputre the POI in the act. There still is 3, i think, women still missing and their bodies are out there somewhere deterioting away.

unfortunately with serial killers, the best clue they can get often comes with another murder :( not because they are not looking but if the killer is careful it takes time before they are linked, then no dna evidence, to much time passed since the abductions, memories are bad etc. With a new one they can concentrate on it immediately, since any missing woman especially prostitute will be looked at seriously right away. Saddest thing is when reporters interview a friend of one that is murdered, then two weeks later discover they are missing and murdered too..was watching a yorkshire case where that happened and have seen it in other cases.

You would think that with all of the missing and murdered they would have had plenty of clues already. I hate to say it, but I don't think they were actively pursuing this because of the nature of the girls occupation, etc. I hope I am wrong!
