You know, I just watched John Meyer on LKL, and I think he was very honest, sincere and modest. I too was like, WHY him? (He can have quite an ego and self-serving womanizer) but I really liked his interview tonight. Why him, for such a legend? But he did represent the generation that wasn't there for the start, but the generation that can recognize the genius and talent. He also said he avoided twitter out of respect.. and he's totally earned mine tonight.

Here is the text:
http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c111:H.RES.600:
Honoring an American legend and musical icon. (Introduced in House)
HRES 600 IH1S
111th CONGRESS
1st Session
H. RES. 600
Honoring an American legend and musical icon.
IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
June 26, 2009
Ms. JACKSON-LEE of Texas (for herself and Ms. WATSON) submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the Committee on Foreign Affairs
RESOLUTION
Honoring an American legend and musical icon.
Whereas Michael Jackson was not only an accomplished recording and performing artist, he was a noted humanitarian;
Whereas Michael Jackson began his stellar recording career as the featured member of `The Jackson 5', which was the first act in recorded history to have their first four major label singles `I Want You Back',`ABC',`The Love You Save', and `I'll Be There', reached the top of the American charts;
Whereas the internationally recognized `Thriller' released in 1982, which became a smash hit yielded seven top-10 singles. The album sold 21 million copies in the United States and at least 27 million worldwide. It was a monumental moment in music history;
Whereas Michael Jackson was labeled `The King of Pop', Jackson's music is internationally recognized and critically acclaimed;
Whereas Michael Jackson was one of the few artists to have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice;
Whereas in the early 1980s, Michael Jackson became a dominant figure in popular music and the first African-American entertainer to amass a strong crossover following on MTV. The popularity of his music videos airing on MTV, such as `Beat It', `Billie Jean' and `Thriller'--widely credited with transforming the music video from a promotional tool into an art form--helped bring the relatively new channel to fame;
Whereas, on January 10, 1984, Michael Jackson visited the unit for burn victims at Brotman-Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles, and demonstrated his concern with people suffering from grievous injuries;
Whereas, on April 9, 1984, David Smithee, a 14-year-old boy suffering from cystic fibroses was invited to Michael's home, in response to a dying request to meet Michael. David passed away 7 weeks later;
Whereas, on April 14, 1984, Michael Jackson was single handedly responsible for equipping a 19-bed-unit at Mount Sinai New York Medical Center. This center is now a critical part of the T.J. Martell Foundation for leukemia and cancer research;
Whereas, on July 5, 1984, during the Jackson's press conference at Tavern On The Green, Michael announced that his portion of the earnings from the Victory Tour would be donated to three charitable organizations: The United Negro College Fund, Camp Good Times, and the T.J. Martell Foundation;
Whereas, on July 14, 1984, after the first concert of the Victory Tour, Michael met 8 terminally ill children backstage;

Whereas in 1986, Michael set up the `Michael Jackson UNCF Endowed Scholarship Fund'. This $1.5 million fund is aimed toward assisting students majoring in performance art and communications, with money given each year to students attending a UNCF member college or university;

His family held on to each other today, and embraced each other for love and support. Katherine has to have a huge empty hole in heart and soul with losing Michael. I know, this day was absolutely amazing, and so ironic....only in his death, does he get his ultimate wish: love around the world. Oh yes, I made a comment about that earlier. Shep Smith had already made his predictions that came back to shoot him in the foot. Jeanie Most did a clip on Shep tonight! It was hilarious how she busted him out. lol
Since I wouldn't believe a thing the media has to say, unless I saw this memorial unfold for myself, which I was blessed to see but I am beginning to think we have long been hoodwinked for years by what we were told to believe.... not what was. I think the media spin that there is a rift between the Jackson family members is another bunch of BS that has been spoon fed to the public. This family seemed genuinely very close. I watched their mannerism and they seemed very familiar and their touch was as if they were use to comforting the other one. I am sure like all families they may have their disagreements but I think they are tightly bonded to each other. Not so sure about Joe though.
It was a glorious day. Paris stepped up and said what I know she has wanted to scream at the top of her lungs for years. Yep, today was a very good day. Michael would have been proud. Today she told the world.

Nevertheless I'm still extremly sad that Michael couldn't feel anymore the love of an audience during his life time -- even if only once again. Over years he was beaten up by the media and would have deserved a healing more than anybody else.
Some media "behaved well" after his death, some even changed their inappropriate line: The trashy "Mirror", for example, dished the worst dirt stories right after his death... but one day later suddenly titled: "Sneddon: Michael Jackson's 'sworn enemy' (...) tells of sadness at his death". In the article still some jibes at MJ -- hidden bitterness that they can't dish the dirt on MJ in this tragic moment. I bet many readers had complained. Their love was stronger.

Beloveds, now we know that we know nothing,
now that our bright and shining star can slip away from our fingertips like a puff of summer wind.
Without notice, our dear love can escape our doting embrace.

No clocks can tell time.
No oceans can rush our tides with the abrupt absence of our treasure.
Though we are many, each of us is achingly alone, piercingly alone.
Only when we confess our confusion can we remember that he was a gift to us
and we did have him.
He came to us from the creator, trailing creativity in abundance.
Despite the anguish, his life was sheathed in mother love, family love,
and survived and did more than that.
He thrived with passion and compassion, humor and style.
We had him whether we know who he was or did not know, he was ours and we were his.
We had him, beautiful, delighting our eyes.
His hat, aslant over his brow, and took a pose on his toes for all of us.
And we laughed and stomped our feet for him.
We were enchanted with his passion because he held nothing.
He gave us all he had been given.
Today in Tokyo, beneath the Eiffel Tower, in Ghana’s Black Star Square.
In Johannesburg and Pittsburgh, in Birmingham, Alabama, and Birmingham, England
We are missing Michael.
But we do know we had him, and we are the world.

I thought I knew, and on the 25th when the news came that he had died, the first thing I said was," Maybe now they will leave him alone."
NO such luck. They will never stop tormenting him.

I think if he had been there, the media would have caught it.
I can't find anything on him later than 2006 other than an article that says his sister was hit by a car and killed earlier this year.
According to this he considers him a friend but one that he only talks to once a year?
"There’s no Michael Jackson references at all, so get that out of your head right now.”
That’s easier said than done, given that it was less than a year ago that Culkin testified for the defense during the pop star’s molestation trial. “You know, I didn’t want to get involved with the whole thing,” he says. “It was a big, fat mess. I almost wanted to say to him, ‘You should have known better, just to even have those kind of people in your life.’ ” He thinks for a moment and continues. “I don’t know how it happened, but somehow I’ve become the resident Michael Jackson expert. We’re close, he’s a good friend of mine, we definitely have a connection that most people don’t have, but he’s a friend that I talk to once a year."

See, that's the difference between children and those who CALL themselves "adults".
Children are beautiful, innocent creatures from God because they don't SEE ethnicity.
YOU, however, continue on this thread AND the other thread to "categorize" these precious children.
GROW UP! You act MUCH more immature than the actual CHILDREN did today!
That was pretty harsh Sapientia.
As an adopted child (didn't even know I was) I was always questioned about my ethnicity. It did confuse me (because I was in the dark) anyway, as I got older and learned the truth, it became very important to me.
All the children may have many questions one day. Ethnicity will be a biggie.

I am absolutely a hater of wild speculation. Just want to be really clear about that.
To me Kellee (sp?) looked far more Asian then she did
African-American, but I went to her web page and she looks totally African-American there.
When I was looking at her singing at the memorial, and I was looking at "Blanket" she sure looked like she could be the mom.
I also think it is very strange that the birth mother of Blanket hasn't ever come forwad.
Back on track, I'm still crying.
I have always really hated NG, and after today, it's even stronger. I could tolerate JVM, but ya know, there is no one more closed minded and judgemental than a former addict/alcoholic. Jane has really proved that about herself today.
OK, CNN is just reshowing Jennifer Hudson, Is she Preggers? I sure hope so. She, more than anyone, can sure understand a devestating loss.

All the children may have many questions one day. Ethnicity will be a biggie.
I understand wanting to know who you are and where you came from. It's natural.
I hope by the time they question that though that the boundaries of ethnicity will have been diffused.

The lawyers need to attach that 20 second snippet by Paris as an exhibit. I think the children will be assigned a legal guardian and voice their views. They are old enough to have some say. :)
Yes and I can think of another recent snippet they could attach that we all saw this week in the news.
I think that they are old enough to voice their opinions and have some valid weight given to them, too. JMO

I'm torn between wanting him buried there, and not.
He loved that place, but he did feel differently about it after the trial, so I'm not sure?
Michael had only a portion of Neverland in his portfolio. I think there would be tons of hoops to jump through to make that happen.
I think the Estate would have to first, try to buy it back and then they'd have to forever keep it up etc.
Maybe turn it in to a Graceland?

Once we realized that there were many many reasons why Michael could not be placed in rest at Neverland, I thought that if his religious beliefs permitted it, he could be cremated and have his ashes scattered there.
Then I remembered why Michael moved out. The authorities had desecrated his home and he said he would never go back. They had destroyed all that he loved about Neverland.
I think he should be in the (still can't spell this) Mosaliem, where Marilyn, Rudolph, and Jo DiMaggio, and a lot of others are. I have been in that resting place, seen Monroe's and Valentino's spaces, and I think Michael would be in good company. It is serene and it feels really safe.

I wonder if it was because MJ was so popular and he felt he would have been "in his shadow". I remember when Janet first started and MJ wanted her to do some duets with him and she told him no -- not until she felt she had established herself without his help. She finally agreed later and recorded "Scream" with him which she believed was therapeutic to MJ. That was after she dropped her father as her mgr, right?

Been watching the coverage since I got home from work.. yes I did catch what I could at work.. everyone was watching it and listening to the music the thoughts.. it was amazing.. with the exclusion of Al Sharpton IMO.. he could of left out the political and racism part .. but that's just my thoughts.
As for Michael's children.. I could give a rats behind what their DNA is.. to them.. Prince I, Paris and Prince Michael II.. aka Blanket.. (hey we call our youngest Spif.. so what's in a nic.. and spif stands for SPIFTACULAR.. which is what her dad always told her she was.. but granted Blanket is a little odd.. but hey that's between him and his kids) Back to DNA.. I don't care whose DNA those kids have.. they know Michael as their Dad, they know he loved them, it's very obvious they loved him.. being a parent isn't about DNA.. it's about being there for them, loving them, teaching them about life, teaching them how to be decent, loving and compassionate adults.. that's what being a parent is.. it's easy to have a child.. it's what comes after they are out of the womb that makes a parent IMO.. sounds to me like Michael was an awesome Dad... and his kids will miss him very much he was a huge part of their lives.. hopefully the media will leave them alone.. and let them be kids.. something Michael was never allowed to be... JMVHO..
I'll leave you with this..
Ever since I was born.. Daddy has been the best father in the world, and I love him so much.. just a few words from a 11 year old girl who loves her Daddy.

I lost my dad when I was 18 and miss him to this day.. doesn't mean I want to dig into history and find out about someone who means nada to me... am I curious heck yeah.. but it's not that high on my priority list.. right now it's my Mom and to make sure she stays healthy and happy.. I love her to death..
DNA is not everything it's cracked up to be.. IMO... These kids will be fine.. they will have a great support system I think.. JMO.. let them heal from the loss .. before the media devours them... which I hope they don't.. it just wouldn't be right IMO.

Parentage may or may not be important. This is way too much personal information, but my 17 year old daughter gave her baby boy up for adoption to the most wonderful, educated, caring people we could have dreamed of.
My daughter has just reconnected with her son, he is now 23, and he has been a pretty much life-long criminal (very petty stuff) and he has been miserable his whole life. He never felt like he fit into the family he was in.
I just met him about a month ago and he is a pathological liar and is seriously disturbed. Mental illness is rampent in his bio-grandfather's (My daughter's father's family.) My daughter and her son seem to both have a mental imbalance.
So, the whole genetic/environment discussion is right on our door step.

I watched from beginning to end, and was amazed by this event, and so happy his children were there to see how much their Daddy was really loved. I cried like a baby and still had a client meeting after. Yes....I was so pretty with the puffy red eyes. I haven't been moved like this in longer than I can remember.
One odd moment with regard to the family....yall.....please don't beat me up, as this is just an observation on my part. Gum chewing. Guess my Mom would have slapped gum out of my mouth in church. Maybe for the children it was to help tension, but Joe Jackson was chewing gum, too. What the heck?
I am so touched by the memorial to the greatest entertainer of my time. Very well done. I hope Michael knows what he meant to the world. I believe he does.

Monroe is buried at Westwood Cemetery, Valentino is buried at Hollywood Forever Cemetery.
I will freely admit that I have pretty serious memory problems, but I did see the crypt of Monroe, with the ever present red rose before DiMaggio passed, and I did see the crypt of Valentino.
I don't know if crypt is the correct term for a slot inside a building, but I did see both of them.
My mother and her husband are at the Forest Lawn in South Glendale, they are in a "wall" in what they call drawers, it is outside.
The place where I saw Monroe's and Valentino's resting place were inside a building. So if I am confused about going to two different places, it wouldn't surprize me. But I do feel certain that both are in Forest Lawn Memorial Parks.
I think that an inside place is best to protect Michael.

I like Mayer and that interview was great
He is another misunderstood talent because of the tabloids. He hates having them all around him and in his face
Was great.
IMO...John Mayer is at least as good as Clapton. He was discovered in my home town of Atlanta. Fact is, my son went away to summer camp when he was 13.....8 years ago and came home raving about Mayer because of one of his counselors.
Was such a Mayer fan until Jessica Simpson....sorry off topic. Oh, and he also got all potical, which I prefer artists not to do.
Still....amazing performance by Mayer. Even before the vocals I really felt John's guitar "sang" the words. So nice. Cried like a baby.

They're massive. A true American Dynasty. Isn't there like 40 something grand kids?

Maybe that was it, sad because of the 1985 recording. Maybe that's why he didn't lead sing it, either. Maybe he was asked and declined.
I don't know for sure at all, but I bet he was asked and it was just too painful to do it so he chose to be in the back row --and not be up and center. Also, I think they really wanted to give those dancers and singers from his new tour to be able to perform MJ's favorite part of the new show. Still glad he was there to share in his memories though.

I'm glad now that his kids will stop wearing masks and maybe not be so closed off from the real world I think they will have a better chance of a healthy life then their father.
They stopped wearing them awhile ago

Look at photo #13... Paris is holding on to Blanket with her arms around him and kissing the top of his head. It looks like he his is holding the memorial program up close to his face, maybe he is not
use to having his face uncovered.
ETA.... #14 and #15 are just as adorable. Little Blanket on stage.

I'm quite positive about my information. Monroe is in a crypt at Westwood and Valentino is inside the Catholic Mausoleum at Hollywood Forever. Neither Cemetery is owned by Forest Lawn.

I think that Berry Goody made it perfectly clear that wearing the masks and vails made it safe for the children to go out in public and have normal good times with his kids.
If Debbie Rowe tries for custody, then she is unfit. I don't dislike her at all, BTW, she gave Michael babies. She made it clear that she did it for Michael.

Wrong his kids in public just recently have been unmasked in June. Everytime they were in public before they have been masked. I never understood why because there are lots of famous kids that don't have masks on. And don't say because they were getting kidnapping threats because there are plenty of famous children in the world that I'm sure have been threatened to be kidnapped one time or another.
http://www.pinkisthenewblog.com/2009/06/michael-jackson-unmasks-his-children/
Ok that was from a blog
And I am not wrong, I saw pics of the kids back in March, they were shopping with MJ
He had them masked to keep the crazy tabloids from taking pics of them. He didn't want their faces photographed by the tabloids. Nothing wrong with that

Exactly, nothing wrong with that. He didn't want his kids faces plastered all over every tabloid. Didn't he say it was for security reasons too. People won't see their faces so they wouldn't be able to kidnap them for ransom etc....very understandable. HE was protecting them

LOL------get outta town! (just kidding) You were a Junior in '85? I graduated in '65! Talk about where has the time gone.....:confused:
I know...I found out that as I grew older, I realized my parents weren't quite the idiots as I always perceived them to be. I can now look back becasue I was the age now they were when they getting a divorce -- and kudos to them. I was the most fun teenager to skulk around my small town.
Michael Jackon was a huge part in my ability to cope withall the drama in my parents divorce. I was around 13-14 and I listened to Off THe Wall, Thriller, etc. I could lock myself up in my room and listen to then all day. He personally affected my life in a positive way and I will never fgot the time in my life he hekped me get through.

Wearing masks just draws more attention to them. If they were in public and without MJ no one would even know they were his kids. But you couldn't see their faces and that was the whole point. No one knew what they looked like. If he never masked them when in public with them, everyone one would know what they looked like. So if they were ever without him, some nut would know who they were because of the tabloids and might try and kidnap them or hurt them. MJ masking them was avoiding that

But by covering them up that just made the tabloids more hungry.
But they never got the pics of their faces and that is how MJ wanted it. Protecting them from the whackos out there that could/would hurt them etc... if they knew what they looked like
And IF he didn't bring his kids out in public(masked) the press would make up stories about why we never see MJ out with his kids
Now back on topic for this memorial thread

Parents choose for their children what they think is correct. I did the best I could, and as I've seen, Michael raised beautiful kids. Remember that he wasn't raised like most of us. He did the best he knew to do.
I really didn't think often about Michael in recent years, until his death. He was a part of my life. Lesson well learned.

So why aren't they still masked then if he was afraid of them being kidnapped they can still be kidnapped now. MJ had a lot of bodyguards so I'm not buying the kidnapped theory.
Don't buy it but this discussion is over now, Memorial thread, remember

You have to give credit to the nannies too! MJ wasn't a single parent and I heard from reports that he didn't get out of bed until 3-4pm in the afternoon and stayed up late because of his sleep disorder so I have to give a lot of credit to those nannies.
I'm sure. Know what, it's not yet midnight here, so I am basking in the Michael the world loved, and not ready now, if ever, to disect him. My heart is changed. I showed up to work today for a client meeting with swollen red eyes. Yup. A few think I'm nuts. I know what touches my heart. My heart tells me this man was not the awful freak he was made to be. My heart aches for what the media did to him...and ultimately to his children. My feelings are mine. Can't argue with feelings. Really. No disrespect intended.

Thanks. At first it was annoying how they all kept grabbing at the mike, and Janet telling her to speak up, but it turned out nice. Sad but nice.
It looked like there was some confusion as to who would speak next. I thought I heard Jermaine ask Janet or say that Janet was going to speak, and she shook her head as a negative because I think she knew Paris was going to speak. Then, they all grabbed the mic to adjust it to Paris' height. I'm glad Janet told her to speak up because it was the noise around them was a little chaotic.

Good Morning Meridian,
I went back and watched it again and of course the tears came again. Hearing Michael's voice at the end was one of the most heart gripping moments for me.
As I watched the entire memorial I had the overwhelming sense that there the truth was finally being told. Can you even imagine how it must have felt for the 20,000 sitting right there? There was a sense of peace, unity and love throughout that entire Center.
It made me feel so much better about the future of MJs children when I saw how very close they are with their father's family. It is them who can bring love and comfort to such beautiful children who loved and idolized their daddy.
imo
