Michael Jackson will create even more pandemonium in death than he did in life -- his body will take center stage at Tuesday's public memorial at the Staples Center in downtown L.A.

The family will hold a private memorial early in the morning at Forest Lawn -- where the body is now. The coffin will then be transported to Staples for what promises to be one of the biggest spectacles in L.A. history.
http://www.tmz.com/

I wonder if this is a bait and switch. The family has been seen arriving at forest lawn, perhaps they decided to do an empty coffin to staples, which might keep the swarm away from the fresh burial spot? Or was it in the trust?

I got the impression that his body will be at the Staples Center, which I think would be dumb to bring his body there.

It's going to be a mad house there. Even though the LAPD has streets blocked off, ppl will still flock to the Staples Center. I just hope they don't start a riot or something

Myka i don't think it will be a problem. After watching his most die hard fans, many who were outside every day of his trial during a time when you might expect an angry emotion to burst out, they never did. They were respectful and i believe they will be this time too.

As far as the casket goes..so long its not seen being loaded and unloaded, which it won't, the family si being escorted by california highway patrol officers from Forest Lawn to Staples center, im not sure it will matter if its there on the drive.

I hope and believe that if its the choice of the family or of MJ himself, that it will be respected. Fans are going to be there anyway.

Has anyone heard of crowds yet?

I think TMZ has that one wrong abotu bringing MJ's body to Staples,. at least that wasn't reported that way last night on most news stations. Then again, I did hear/read somewhere that the family was torn on parading MJ's coffin there so the public, much like Princess Diana's. Guess we'll have to sit and wait it out.

I think the police and the security at Staples can handle whatever they are going to do. Believe me they have been going over the procedures since they knew the memorial is going to be held there.

When I stop and think about it.............it is really hard to realize that we will never see MJ preform anymore. That leaves me feeling very sad.

That includes all the police as well? I heard it will be us tax payers footing the bill. If that is the case that is not right. His estate that is currently generating money should pay for it all. imo

I believe the police coverage is on the taxpayers. Just part of living in LA I guess.

No one can touch that Estate. There is a lot of hearings to go through and decisions made and to be approved by the Judge.

Memphis handled over 30,000 people flooding in all around Graceland for three days and they maintained order. Although they did bring in 300 National Guard troops to assist. I am sure their police force was not near as large as what LA has.

Surely they can do crowd control today. The memorial isn't going to last all day.

Plenty of money will be made by the businesses there. After the memorial is over they will file out filling up restaurants, shopping and I imagine the motels/hotels are at full capacity.

I think Liz is taking his death very hard and Liz is not in the best of health either and has age on her. She has already had to be wheelchair bound before.

Do you have to go to crowed places to twitter? From what I know you can twitter from you own bed. Heck even a bed in the hospital.

As far as not knowing about her going to the hospital the day MJ died it was all over the news local and national.

I had a thought for Neverland on my way back from the store. One that SB might not fight as hard to stop, andwould fit MJ's wishes as well given what we know of him and the work he has done for kids. (intersting, a cashier there is in her 60's and i mentioned i was getting ready to watch the memorial, she said "oh its so sad, and the people who always wanted money and lied about him, they were bad ppl. Said Elvis was the King of Rock and MJ the King of Pop" so ppl are caring up here in canada)

Anyway, one of the things MJ loved it for and used it for was kids who were underpriveleged or had disabilities etc. If they turned it into a non profit holiday destination for kids who are ill, have cancer, underpriveleged, continuing the tours that MJ used to have all the time at neverland, for 6 months of the year and 6 months hold graceland style tours but with tourbuses staged in los olivas or santa barbara.

This way it would be for a good use, while at the same time allowing the estate to appreciate the rest of the year and keep things under control.

I like your idea and it shows your heart is in the right place, but I think the property costs too much to run for it to ever be non profit. Some accounts have the figure at 10 million a year to maintain it.

Yes but if 6 months of it are Graceland style tours then that would probably make up the shortfall. Also, upkeep and costs could be a charitable tax credit for 6 months of year again offsetting costs. Also part of the 20% could be used as well for that.

Santa barbara would have the increased revenue from restaurants etc. and taxes, Neverland would then be used as it should be imo, i am convinced MJ would have returned after his concert tour. Apparently he was overwhelmed at the fact every date sold out and i don't mean bc of 50 dates..just amazed so many still wanted to see him.

Just thinking of a way that would allow SB some face if they allowed the zoning and no zoning change would be needed for the children's tours/camp.

One last complaint then I'll zip it.. This list of people that they have.. John Mayer, the singer from Britian's America's Got Talent, some of them just don't make sense to me.. wonder if Michael even knew Martin Luther King the III and his sister Bernice.. maybe he did... who knows.. this whole thing is just getting to be way out of hand. One thing to memorialize the man, remember his music and talents.. but swat teams bringing the body in.. singers that maybe he didn't even know. Just seems weird to me.

It might go against conventional wisdom but i am very pleased at this.

I think that it will be a measure of closure for the fans, will stop the swarming of forest lawn-unfair to those who want to go see their loved ones there and also ..its an honor that Elvis had, Diana had. And MJ would like to be there imo.

Just heard something wonderful from a fan. Every fan who had tickets talked about how happy they are, but this one said:

I haven't, but I just saw a woman who came from England and didn't have ticket. She stood on the road with a sign and a generous man stopped and offered her his other ticket. Thought that was a very kind thing to do, didn't take or ask for anything.

All I can say is wow. I thought they were going to lay him to rest prior to. I guess they will have strong security around him, but some of these fans are nuts. Saw an interview with one that said she wanted to crawl into his casket with him and quite sure there are probably others like her. :(

the fans won't get near it. However it will be cathartic for them to see it. Smart of the family to keep it completely hush hush until today.

It was handled with no problem in every single other high profile death from elvis to Reagan. MJ fans are like no other but they are also respectful. For example when he announced the O2 tour, there was no rushing of the stage, at the trial there was no rushing of him on the suv etc.

IMO MJ might have haunted them if he was not allowed to be at his own memorial

IMO, his fans are capable of observing this service with love and respect and I fully expect they will.

Those expecting a "circus" will be sorely disappointed, imo.

BTW, I believe it was decided that his body would be there so his fans could bid one last goodbye.

I think it is appropriate. Everyone knows what MJs fans meant to him. To cut him off from them now I don't believe MJ would want that.

Are they going to put his casket on that lift that is to the left of the stage?

imo

I haven't, but I just saw a woman who came from England and didn't have ticket. She stood on the road with a sign and a generous man stopped and offered her his other ticket. Thought that was a very kind thing to do, didn't take or ask for anything.

That was incredibly kind. What a gift to someone who wanted to go so badly she flew over. I have NO problem with those who give one away, i think the scalpers should be arrested and their tickets given to fans randomly, rather like this man did. May god bless his kindness.

the fans won't get near it.

I imagine the security inside the center will be tighter than what is being done outside. The ones that will be guarding him will probably have shoulders as wide as football players. lol I think it is appropriate and I am glad they are bringing him there.

SWAT team to escort Michael to Staple Center after Memorial

That will keep it safe. You know it might have to do iwth his children too. I think...if i remember back enough to be a child...perhaps they don't want to leave his side until the very very end of the celebration of his life but don't want to miss it either.

I think it will be fine. When Elvis died the security even let the fans come inside his home for the very first time to pass by his body in the Piano Room.

I hope so.

I wonder if the children will attend the memorial? I am on the fence on whether they should go or not. I think they were aware of MJ's celebrity status and it might be something they can look back on and say," Wow, my Dad was loved by many. " That could be a good memory for them all their lives. On the other hand, they are young and have been isolated, this all could be way too much for them.

How much does the casket weigh? IIRC, it is bronze with 24K overlay so it has got to be extremely heavy. I wonder if that is what that lift is going to be used for that is sitting on the left?

Not being cold hearted but SWAT team.. or possibly fly him in.. how much more is this costing the city..

Yes I know.. vendors, merchants will make money.. that's great.. but the cost to a city that has no money.. and a state that is handing out IOU's..

Hopefully it goes off without any incidents and this poor man can finally be laid to rest.

I still don't see the purpose of the coffin, would much rather see video of pictures of him when he was alive than a 25K coffin. JMHO

Athena, i know it seems shocking but i think its because we are not used to this since Princess Diana died and many of us were not alive or old enough to remember Elvis's send off.

It isn't as if they were putting the casket on top of an old station wagon and driving it through town without tight security. It also means that people who can't get into the staples center might get a glimpse of the procession allowing them a bit of closure too.

MJ's wishes, some family members wishes, and the fans needs are all being combined...i was really disappointed they would not allow the service to be played outside for the ones who spent all the money to be there even though i understood, partly because they would have no way to really say goodbye. This..the story will die down after today imo, at least for the fans. They can go home this afternoon knowing it is real, it is over, he has been honored. I don't even think he could have been buried in forest lawn safely unless somehow fans saw he was gone. i first typed "its not like granny of beverly hillbillies is putting his coffin on top of their rackety truck with jethro driving to bury him in the back country and driving it through the city" but changed it :blushing:

The oldest son imo is old enough to decide if he wants to. It might be good for him, to feel he helped honor his dads death and he had been practicing to do something on stage.

Remember kids often are at funerals and burials and some even speak at them. This might be the best time for him to do so because its a celelbration of his life. IMO they should leave it up to the child with a quick call to a reputable psychiatrist to double check. If they are there in the seats or one wants to sing a song...i doubt it changes their feelings on the death but might feel like they were a real part of saying goodbye to him.

I think his family will be very happy to have it as circus like as possible, the more interest in Michael, the more money into his estate. He has I'm sure been supporting a lot of his family and they will continue to be supported by him long after his death.

Look at his dad, he is already promoting his own agenda and money making deals. And if he can find a way to exploit the children he will do that also. Katherine wasn't able to protect Michael from all the abuse he alleges Joe piled on him, it was only when Michael had the upper hand in terms of controlling Joe with money that things changed. With Michael gone Joe will find a way to weasel back in. If Katherine really wanted him gone why not divorce him? It will be interesting to see how this all plays out over the next couple of years. I see a lot of internal family strife.

Hi Lili

Circle of life... hey?
Celebrating a life that has passed, and celebrating the life you have.
Happy Birthday and have a blessed day.

:)

Thanks! Circle of life indeed. Listening to MJ on AOL radio. PYT - Pretty Young Thing. Yep, that's me! :)

Can't bring myself to watch the coverage here at work. Too sad to view at the office :(.

The warranty covering the seal of the casket is more for the peace of mind of the loved ones....

Yea... pretty much like the vaults for the caskets. I'm sure they also chose a top of the line vault, but haven't heard about the vault yet.

Hugs Candy! it sure is. they have beautiful images of MJ up on the jumbotrons

XOXO to you VC. I am wondering if it's really just family in the black tour buses going to the cemetary? I would think there could be a few exceptions, but maybe it's Jackson family only. :crying: It certainly brings a sense of finality to this past week of revisiting the past three decades and then some. :blushing: Showing my age here, but I grew up on the Jacksons and feel so bad for all of the children born to Katherine and Joe. JMO tho.

Sorry it fell on your BD Lilismom, but FWIW, I hope you are able to enjoy some of the day.

I don't think the people/celebs who felt touched by and/or close to Michael will be running from bad press. JMO tho. I've seen some pretty shocking stories about how Michael touched the lives of the rich and poor. I continue to pray he has finally escaped the torture he endured while in the flesh and will move into a whole new level while he rests in peace and his many fans pay tribute in a plethora of different ways. I liked what Madonna opened with the night before last. JMO

Thanks. Signed the Will and is being laid to rest on my BD. 7 years to the day. :( So sad. Its all good though, my DD is here at the office with me today!

I agree. I think everyone who knew and loved Michael WANTS to be there - it doesn't mean they can.

"and for the Jackson family to put this together for the fans, while they are mourning, i just want to thank them" I am glad she got a ticket.

jmo

Actually it doesnt seem odd at all. To have a public service but not have the casket there seems odd to me especially when he has not been buried yet.

Thanks should go to Ringling Brothers circle as well, they gave up one day to allow the stage to be returned to AEG. And i thank AEG for holding it at both staples and nokia.

i had to giggle at shep smith.

He said "if they are trying to make it low key they get an F" (talking about the 6 lane highway shut down etc) he didn't mean it meanly.

Watching the hearse being followed down the freeway is eerily reminiscent of the day many of us here were watching him on his way to court almost exactly 4 years ago...he was ACQUITTED of all bogus charges on that day and many of us celebrated with each other...today is a very different day...its interesting to me that I wanted to share this day with some of you...and while it has been a heartbreaking week, he is also being released with love..although to a very different place

Shep Smith on Fox is not being too nice in his discription-----regardless of your feelings, today should be showing respect

I sent a question too. maybe will get lucky. dang....i didn't think i would want anything as a momento (really was never a big music fan per se) but a program feels right. Spent enough months fighting for his defense

Even the swat team's truck was low key looking when you think of it. Not emblazoned, just a big truck behind the hearse.

yes they have done a great job. Generally shep has followed it pretty well, i only caught that one comment which had me laugh a bit because no one would call MJ's send off low key even though obviously it is solemn.

I still prefer cnn because msnbc pulled the abramas and GA stunt, and if shep is being obnoxious overall ...then by by

Did you notice the rescue wagon behind the procession?

Swat goes nowhere and does nothing without a rescue team with them.

It's procedure.

MSNBC is also doing a great job.

Having Gloria Allred on during MJ's memorial service is in poor taste IMO.
