Wow, we went over that pic with a fine tooth comb in the beginning of this case. I think about 50/50 thought it was/wasn't her. I did a layover in PS with her known face and this one and it doesn't match, (mostly her hairline). I don't think it is Casey, myself and I *sure* don't think that bag is full of Caylee's bones(more like someone's leaves).

You are not going to like this answer, but here goes. Note I am speaking from a California perspective, but I believe it is the same in other states.

There is no rule that says nonprofits must undergo an annual independent audit. I know because I ran one for fifteen years and had an independent audit each fiscal year. The requirement does not come as a general mandate, but by how much a nonprofit wants to write for specific grants from foundation, city/county, state or federal grants. Most of those have restrictions that say an independent audit must be included in the grant appendix for consideration. When you work up to federal grants, the eligible activities, back-up documentation and the like gets more complicated.

So, if you are a nonprofit that operates only by donation, there is no standing rule about audits or financials. Does this open the door for fraud and misappropriation of funds? You bet it does. Why? Because only the board of directors is watching and if you seed that board with people who don't know, don't care or are in on the fix, all kinds of hades can break free. I once saw a man bleed a nonprofit for over two million dollars and there was nothing I could do to stop it. The attorney general didn't seem to care and his board was comprised of his friends. It was horrible to witness.

I also knew a person who ran a homeless soup kitchen. Everyone in town thought he was a saint. Radio and TV would run telethons for his cause. You could drop money into barrels throughout town. He would pick up the money throughout the day. Let's say there was five grand in a specific barrel......maybe two would make it to the bank. Folks thought he took in a low salary, but didn't know that his rent, car payments, food, kid's private school...............all were paid for from donations.

Many nonprofits that rely on donations do keep accurate records and/or audit because they want to prove to potential high wealth donors and everything is on the up and up. But you can also cook the books without an independent audit every year or at least every other year.

What can be done? Really only two things:

1. Public outcry to slow or stop donations.

2. Hard heat on the Florida attorney general. This one would at least bring pressure on that office to keep eyes on the Anthony foundation. The IRS ruling granted to a nonprofit specifies sound financial accounting that plays directly to mission. To do otherwise is to risk the nonprofit status. Abuse comes because no one really watches close enough. Deluge the attorney general and make him or her know that they will have egg on their face if it is proven that the Anthony's are pulling a fast one and maybe, just maybe, abuse can be curbed.

I'm not sure, but I think Sean Krause had mentioned in one of his interviews with police, (I'm not sure if it was Sean Krause but I believe so), that there was an escort service called Universal Entertainment or something along those lines in Florida. He thought maybe that's what she meant when she said she was working for Universal. I haven't been able to find it myself. I don't doubt she would be comfortable working in that trade, but I would think she would have had some of her own money and wouldn't have to steal gas and and target money. It's not like she was living extravagantly. Who really knows though :shrug:?

I was the treasurer for a charity. The books have to be audited by a CPA at the end of each year. IIRC the audit is done sometime in March. The audit is what is made public not the actual books. JMO

Can the IRS swoop down on any nonprofit and review the books? Sure they can. Can they pull a 501 c3 status if the books are off? Sure they can. Do they do that often? Nope. And hardly ever unless there is a scandal or something that precludes the inspection.

It's all kinds of wrong. All nonprofits should be held to that simple accounting standard, but they are not. It's why abuse is all over the place. And the abuse is usually buried in expense line items, inexperienced governing boards and people looking to make a buck.

I remember. Either Amy or Annie (whichever was involved in production or set design - she called it "gaffer's tape" IIRC) asked Casey for her tape back. Don't know when that conversation happened though. I always thought that's how Casey might've had tape in her car or in her purse. Probably rolling around in her trashy car.

My nieces were here recently for a wedding and the younger one has grown so much, when she came downstairs with her makeup on and her hair straightened from it's naturally curly state, I was struck by the resemblence to Casey, blues eyes, dark hair. Thankfully I don't see any other resemblence, I didn't pick up on any lies and I did see one of her paystubs so I think we are in the clear!!

It was shortly after the anything but clothes party, possibly the beginning of June, and I think Amy had said something to Casey about her having swiped Amy's duct tape. I believe Amy said something about it being a full roll or a new roll or something along those lines. No lnk so this is jmo.

I worked for a non-profit that was the crookedest place I ever heard of. Peter was ripping off Paul at every turn. For YEARS. I am NOT impressed by a non-profit status. You still have to do your homework on them, IMO.

as much as I think casey was a horrible parent and as little as I think of casey as a human being (not that it is my place to judge) I don't think that bruise on Caylee was anything.....My children get bumps and bruises of all kinds and Lord KNOWS they are not physically abused.

I know the autopsy showed no broken bones on Caylee but that proves nothing because it doesn't mean she couldn't have been pinched, burned, punched, kicked, etc, etc. because that would not show up now. That evidence is gone. :crying:

I think the whole day was about 6 or 7 hours. I thought they left TonE's apt late morning and Casey went home with Caylee, Cindy then took Caylee to Mt Dora and they were back early evening cause Cindy said they went in the pool. (she and Caylee, Casey said it was too cold)

No I do not think so. Someone here will know for sure.
I have been in jails and prisons many, many times but I have never had the guards actually try to read the papers in my briefcase. They always x-ray my briefcase as well as open it and look inside, and particularly thorough security staff have flipped through my files and held them by the spine shaking them like maybe they thought I might sneak in a weapon made of glass or wood or some other non-metallic substance invisible to the x-ray machine or illegal drugs or other contraband. At Folsom prison, during a time when they were having trouble with occasional prison riots I even had to take off my bra because of the metal underwire beneath the cups. (They let you remove items of clothing in the restroom in the public waiting area - you don't have to disrobe while standing at the security checkpoint!)

If the security screeners tried to read my legal papers/correspondence, I would not let them. I would literally make a federal case about it. There is nothing in there that is not privileged attorney-client confidential communications or attorney work product. I know that they could take my legal papers from me, read those papers and then give those papers to the prosecution, but that would be essentially the same as if they took cash from my wallet. They have no legal right to do so.

However, since G&C are not Baez' clients, there is no attorney-client confidential communication privilege concerning anything Baez gives them or tells them. G&C can be forced to disclose anything and everything they get from Baez verbally or in writing. When I take a witness' deposition, I always ask about what communications the witness has had with the other parties and/or the attorneys for the other parties. Who, what, when, where, why and how? Any recordings or documents? Did they take notes? And so forth. Of course, G&C have shown they are willing to perjure themselves so their answers cannot be trusted, but in theory they can be legally compelled to disclose what letters they received from Baez and/or Casey.

Edited to add: I am aware that sometimes inmates will be in the process of writing letters in their cells, then their cells are searched as part of routine security protocols and the letters are found. If the inmate's letters are not addressed to their lawyer, priest or other privileged person, the letters can be read by the jail staff to make sure the inmate is not planning an escape. The jail staff does not have to wait for the letters to be submitted as outgoing mail.

The autopsy report revealed the presence of "grave wax" on some paper towels. (This "grave wax" is apparently some residue that builds up on corpses.) At the time when I first heard this I THOUGHT the paper towels had been collected from the trunk. If this is true, it confirms without a shadow of a doubt that there was a dead body in the trunk. The defense can try the unreliable-new-agey-technique defense on the Body Farm tests, but residue on paper towels from body decomp is what it is.

Grave Wax also takes approximately 30 days to build up from what I read. This means that Casey was driving around with Caylee in the trunk for a LONG time. It probably was shorter than 30 days because of how warm and how quickly the decomp would have been happening but, still, she had the body in her car for a L O N G time.

Now, IF the paper towels were collected from the car, I am suprised that none of the TH's have talked about this since, IMO, it is significant and very damaging evidence.

I have a theory on how all this went down, and I'm working on solidifying it against other factors. Probably people will be slinging all kinds of stuff at me when I finally lay it all out. So I'm carefully putting it all together.. It goes against the grain of what the majority (like about 80%) believe happened, but almost every detail of my theory is bulletproof. Even the duct tape on the mouth and nose thing.

You are not going to like this answer, but here goes. Note I am speaking from a California perspective, but I believe it is the same in other states.

There is no rule that says nonprofits must undergo an annual independent audit. I know because I ran one for fifteen years and had an independent audit each fiscal year. The requirement does not come as a general mandate, but by how much a nonprofit wants to write for specific grants from foundation, city/county, state or federal grants. Most of those have restrictions that say an independent audit must be included in the grant appendix for consideration. When you work up to federal grants, the eligible activities, back-up documentation and the like gets more complicated.

So, if you are a nonprofit that operates only by donation, there is no standing rule about audits or financials. Does this open the door for fraud and misappropriation of funds? You bet it does. Why? Because only the board of directors is watching and if you seed that board with people who don't know, don't care or are in on the fix, all kinds of hades can break free. I once saw a man bleed a nonprofit for over two million dollars and there was nothing I could do to stop it. The attorney general didn't seem to care and his board was comprised of his friends. It was horrible to witness.

I also knew a person who ran a homeless soup kitchen. Everyone in town thought he was a saint. Radio and TV would run telethons for his cause. You could drop money into barrels throughout town. He would pick up the money throughout the day. Let's say there was five grand in a specific barrel......maybe two would make it to the bank. Folks thought he took in a low salary, but didn't know that his rent, car payments, food, kid's private school...............all were paid for from donations.

Many nonprofits that rely on donations do keep accurate records and/or audit because they want to prove to potential high wealth donors and everything is on the up and up. But you can also cook the books without an independent audit every year or at least every other year.

What can be done? Really only two things:

1. Public outcry to slow or stop donations.

2. Hard heat on the Florida attorney general. This one would at least bring pressure on that office to keep eyes on the Anthony foundation. The IRS ruling granted to a nonprofit specifies sound financial accounting that plays directly to mission. To do otherwise is to risk the nonprofit status. Abuse comes because no one really watches close enough. Deluge the attorney general and make him or her know that they will have egg on their face if it is proven that the Anthony's are pulling a fast one and maybe, just maybe, abuse can be curbed.

I too thought that Caylee may have been in the trunk for about that amount of time. What changed my mind was the news report about the neighbor loaning Casey the shovel. Later that afternoon her cell phone pings were right in the area Caylee was dumped. When she's home I guess the cell pings off of a different tower. That placed her in those woods the same day she borrowed the shovel. I think she may have just wrapped the neighbors shovel in a plastic bag and used it as leverage to put Caylee in the garbage bags. I'm not convinced she used it for any digging whatsoever.

I just heard Spitz claim that he SAW the body and that there was no duct tape on the body. I did a lot of searching about grave wax (adiopicere-sic) It is very unattractive to animals so it will remain virtually undisturbedo n a body. I believe IIRC there is an odor that repels animals and other feeding things. It tends to form more rapidly in water and it DOES take some time to form - about 30 days. It is also highly stable.

This NPO sounds very complex but yet the Milsteads, who IMO don't act like their cake isn't quite baked, can work the system. ?is there an abuse hotline to the IRS? As for the state level, the AG might interested in the public's concern.


I don't know about a hotline to the IRS, but most attorney general offices have an "blind" way to get information to them. Just look on Florida's AG website. The problem is this...........Most offices are overworked (or so they say) and seldom actually investigate AND they won't investigate just on someone's "feelings" that something is wrong. Now I don't know what would happen in this case if thousands of people submitted blind inquiry. I have never dealt with any like that before so have no knowledge.

I will say this though. I was surprised when I heard that the Anthony Foundation had already received its own nonprofit IRS nonprofit status. That seemed pretty quick to me. Usually it takes several more months to receive "final rule" from the state and new groups usually work under the umbrella of another legal entity as a "fiscal agent" until the final rule comes in.

I haven't actually seen the nonprofit approval. Has anyone else? Does it say "pending" or anything?

He came for the publicity show when all the experts were there with Baez and then he left. Baez even said he had to forward PICTURES and things to his experts. Never once did Baez say he had to bring those experts to examine things on the scene. Defense is usually not allowed access to bodies until AFTER the autopsy (to prevent corruption and chain of evidence. So I seriously doubt that he saw the victim BEFORE the autopsy and after the autopsy the tape wasn't there - it was in the custody of t he FBI. Spitz conveniently forgets that little fact. I did a lot of searching about grave wax (adiopicere-sic) It is very unattractive to animals so it will remain virtually undisturbedo n a body. I believe IIRC there is an odor that repels animals and other feeding things. It tends to form more rapidly in water and it DOES take some time to form - about 30 days. It is also highly stable.

See that is what is confusing. The autopsy report said a child the size of Caylee would be skeletal in as little as a month.

I don't know where this information came from. I know of no reason the tapes cannot be used in subsequent trials even if she is acquited of the murder charges. JMO

I'm of the opinion the state would like to see some progress, ANY progress in the various cases against the odious one. Since the defense is all tied up chasing rainbows or whatever the hell it is they're doing, I think the state is just trying to get a few things done.

I am from the Michigan area and in the process of a case that I was working on (as a paralegal), I had occasion to talk to him about an autopsy he performed on the deceased mother of a client of ours. All I can say is his autopsy was sloppy and talking to him was a nightmare; This was five years ago. I think he lost it along time ago and hopefully the prosecution will exploit his, shall we say, declining skills. He now lives off his reputation. no longer deserved.

old and some rolls are newer.

The old duct tape still sticks but it is not as sticky as the newer duct tape, it doesn't have the same grasp.

Thanks for the info! I'm still wondering if this tape was already in the car trunk or had been in the garage or house. It's been reported the tape company stopped imprinting the logo on the tape itself a couple of years ago, so we know it was at least that old. MOO

I read an article over the weekend about body wax. It said a body being placed in a plastic bag, the formation was retarded; if the body was clothed and in a plastic bag or in a cool damp area, the formation could be accelerated.

There are a lot of factors that would figure into the decomp rate... body size, weather, temps, humidity, if the body was submerged, scavengers....

IMO, once Caylee was placed in the woods, it would not take long for the scavengers to find her. They probably had as much to do with the skeletonization of her remains as the decomp process.

I did a lot of searching about grave wax (adiopicere-sic) It is very unattractive to animals so it will remain virtually undisturbedo n a body. I believe IIRC there is an odor that repels animals and other feeding things. It tends to form more rapidly in water and it DOES take some time to form - about 30 days. It is also highly stable.

Thanks for the info! I'm still wondering if this tape was already in the car trunk or had been in the garage or house. It's been reported the tape company stopped imprinting the logo on the tape itself a couple of years ago, so we know it was at least that old. MOO

I have been in jails and prisons many, many times but I have never had the guards actually try to read the papers in my briefcase. They always x-ray my briefcase as well as open it and look inside, and particularly thorough security staff have flipped through my files and held them by the spine shaking them like maybe they thought I might sneak in a weapon made of glass or wood or some other non-metallic substance invisible to the x-ray machine or illegal drugs or other contraband. At Folsom prison, during a time when they were having trouble with occasional prison riots I even had to take off my bra because of the metal underwire beneath the cups. (They let you remove items of clothing in the restroom in the public waiting area - you don't have to disrobe while standing at the security checkpoint!)

If the security screeners tried to read my legal papers/correspondence, I would not let them. I would literally make a federal case about it. There is nothing in there that is not privileged attorney-client confidential communications or attorney work product. I know that they could take my legal papers from me, read those papers and then give those papers to the prosecution, but that would be essentially the same as if they took cash from my wallet. They have no legal right to do so.

However, since G&C are not Baez' clients, there is no attorney-client confidential communication privilege concerning anything Baez gives them or tells them. G&C can be forced to disclose anything and everything they get from Baez verbally or in writing. When I take a witness' deposition, I always ask about what communications the witness has had with the other parties and/or the attorneys for the other parties. Who, what, when, where, why and how? Any recordings or documents? Did they take notes? And so forth. Of course, G&C have shown they are willing to perjure themselves so their answers cannot be trusted, but in theory they can be legally compelled to disclose what letters they received from Baez and/or Casey.

Edited to add: I am aware that sometimes inmates will be in the process of writing letters in their cells, then their cells are searched as part of routine security protocols and the letters are found. If the inmate's letters are not addressed to their lawyer, priest or other privileged person, the letters can be read by the jail staff to make sure the inmate is not planning an escape. The jail staff does not have to wait for the letters to be submitted as outgoing mail.

I am from the Michigan area and in the process of a case that I was working on (as a paralegal), I had occasion to talk to him about an autopsy he performed on the deceased mother of a client of ours. All I can say is his autopsy was sloppy and talking to him was a nightmare; This was five years ago. I think he lost it along time ago and hopefully the prosecution will exploit his, shall we say, declining skills. He now lives off his reputation. no longer deserved.

Vertebrae had been dragged away from body by animals and was intact. Had growth growing through it for at least 4 months. Also growing theu Winnie the Pooh blanket.

No indication of chloroform. Isn't it true for chloroform to show up that you basically have to chug it like you are a freshman in college...have to chug it for chloroform to show up in your hair.

Duct tape - someone will ask that isn't it possible that Caylee was crying and the duct tape was placed to muffle her screams and she died.

ANy significance that her head was separated from her body? AS body decomposed, parts of body was dragged elsewhere. Body was in early stages of decomp when body was placed there.

Can determeine animal activity by bite marks on bones and the way the bones were scattered it indicates that carnivores were dragging the bones to different places.

My only experience, with decomposition..as recent as a few weeks ago we lost our best friend Jimmy in California.

He was not found for 3-4 days after he fell in his kitchen while preparing to drive out to BC to visit us. Everyone thought he had left for Canada and didn't think anything of not seeing or hearing from him.

We are still waiting for autopsy results, they say it will take 10 weeks..anyhow his Mom told me that it only cost under $400 to cremate him but it cost over $1800. to have a special team come in and clean his apartment from the decomposition, maybe? 'adipocere'.
I looked it up, when she told me, and saw how they have to take out the flooring and do a treatment on the cement etc.
