View Full Version : Obama kills annoying fly, then keeps going in TV interview

Breaking news-
Okay, I'm sure this story will increase confidence for everyone, even those who aren't BO fans.
I have no doubt he'll fix the economy now that he has achieved an amazing feat. He killed a fly with his bare hands. This has never been done before and it's no wonder the media is comparing him to Dirty Harry or the guy in Karate Kid. It was absolutely the most amazing thing ever. And he was able to keep going with the interview after this trying experience. Wow! What can I say, I am in awe!
If SNL wasn't so biased, they might consider this skit. Cheney captures Bin Laden and no one cares or wants to hear about his dangerous mission because the reporters are too busy gushing about BO's capture of the pesky fly.

Standby, I'm sure there will be many Republicans speaking out against this real soon. It's nonsense now, but they will make it headline news. Right up there with all the other non stories they jump all over.

If you google this, you'll see a lot of media jumped on this and they are the ones who decide what qualifies as important information these days. This is what they are presenting to us as news.
I doubt any Republicans will object to the fly's demise, but perhaps a few liberals won't like it. I read a story once where an actress had a fit on set when a stagehand killed a helpless spider.
I thought I'd post this to add a bit of humor to these boards, but knew some would not appreciate it. At least some of us can laugh at what the media is spending their valuable air time on these days. Hey, if not for those serious reporters chatting about this, we might have shrugged this off as a routine fly killing.

YOu miss the point.
It is the media who seem to find it fit to report these kind of stories. They would rather print this than ask Obama the tough questions on the economy etc. Puff pieces are so much more fun and wouldn't challenge the president to defend his programs.
My personal favorite is during the campaign when the audience applauded after Obama sneezed.
jmo
Well, there can be more than one point to be made. I don't see Obama getting a free ride. I see plenty of tough questions asked and answered. I see plenty of Republicans whining about garbage that counts for nothing but adding nothing of substance to any debate in Congress. Disagree with those tough issues and give an appropriate response with a position or alternate suggestions. Just say no isn't working. Making a major production about an alternate budget which contains nothing is ludicrous. Complaining about everything accomplishes nothing.
As to the media, well it's a long time since they cared about all the important things all the time. It's entertainment, it's ratings and some times it's pure bs.

This thread clearly shows what rw'ers are focusing on these days.....No wonder two lost elections:wink:
You've missed the point entirely. I thought this was funny, well, a sad kind of funny the way the media makes a fuss over the simplest things when it comes to BO. I posted it because I want to show just how ridiculous the media is being and I'm making my point by following their example. I pretended to make a big deal out of this in my first post and what I said was mild compared to the intense gushing coming from our media. If you have a problem with what I did, then you should be outraged at what reporters across the country do on a daily basis. I'm just posting on a forum. The media is addressing millions of people every day who count on them to stay informed of the real issues.
They could have used that air time to discuss those real issues, as Raptor pointed out in the excellent post above, but instead they chose to make a fuss over BO's incredible fly killing talents.

Well, I'm just glad that so many in the media took the time to point this out and discuss it ad nauseum. And the ones who were making a huge deal out of it sounded like BO fans the way they compared him to a basketball star, a Karate expert and Dirty Harry. I heard a montage of comments on the radio and they excitedly sang BO's praises and one said the incident was incredible. In case anyone watching the interview didn't think it was out of the ordinary at the time, the media made sure that it got attention.
So, don't thank me. Thank the media. And if Palin and the Republicans don't comment, then it's obvious they don't care about the important issues that the media sees fit to highlight. We can only discuss that which is known to us and this is a prime example of some of the stuff that the media deems worthy. I wish there was equal time given to many other issues.
As it is, we go to blogs and radio shows sometimes because that's where we find people who aren't afraid to tackle the real issues. They are often, IMO, more credible and reliable that the ones who call themselves reporters. If one relies solely on the so-called mainstream media, they might just be left in the dark.

you keep touting this 'media'. I say again, if you don't like the press focusing on the POTUS, go to fox, it's the most 'popular' media outlet on the air.....I didn't miss any point, you enjoy this type of thing, I know:wink:
You know absolutely nothing about me and that gets more obvious with each post. So, I am thinking about the neat little feature called the ignore button. If you find my threads and/or posts bothersome, there is no need for you to waste your time. The fact that you comment often indicates that it affects you and that can be avoided. I wouldn't want to ruin your experience here. :tonguewag:

From what I have seen during my short time here, benwatching often misses the point with his rush to demonize what he deems "RW". IMO
I had an uncle that could catch flies as they were buzzing around you and would toss them outside (if they were in the house). I once saw him pick off 6 flies, one right after another, at a picnic. What an arm. LOL:laugh:
My son does that, too. I never tried since I don't want to touch them. I'm sure BO's maneuver impressed some and it was the type of thing that normally might have gotten a "way to go, dude" response before quickly moving on to the issue at hand. I've never seen so many in the media jump on such a little thing before and it makes me ill to think that they are so easily and willingly sidetracked from the tougher issues.

It is humorous that the Huff n Puff crowd seems to be the only ones who don't get the point, but then again the LW has taken every nonsensical item to the extreme for the last 9 years.
It's a shame his wife wasn't there to do something "as noble" and then we could have had 24 hour coverage and the lw would have been breaking their necks to post their usual sycophant cudos.

I don't think it has that much to do with them being sidetracked as much as they want to push his administration so it will seem successful. The media should be embarrassed, but I think they are beyond understanding just how silly they look.

Well, it might instigate the need to spend some of the stimulus money to research the effect of insects on Presidents. That will help the unemployment rate go down by at least 2 or 3 people.
So, yes, it could be important for the Financial channels to report.

"Synopsis
Mickey, the tailor, kills "seven flies with one blow." The king, thinking that Mickey is talking about giants, sends him out to kill one, and offers him the hand of the Princess Minnie in return."

An even more bizarre thought:
What if the poor fly had attended BO's press conference and had knocked himself senseless (not that that would have been inconsistent with the rest of the life forms in attendance) by flying full speed into the Teleprompters conveniently placed at either side of the Podium?
Horrific!!
But imaginable - they do look like huge (albeit all-knowing) FlySwatters, after all!!!!!

Yep, the whole lot of them need to be swatted a few times. For some reason they all forget WE are their employers so WE should be the ones they listen to.
I just cannot believe that the media is still so tingly legged over him that they have to make such a big todo about him swatting a fly. Good grief!! They need to just get over it. The man is SUPPOSED to be doing a job. Until and unless they quite acting like he is the first president in our history, he'll continue to mug for the cameras and campaigning for a position he already has.
You're right, but that is because he was only concerned about the superficial aspects of the presidency. They should let him do the "ribbon cutting" tasks and let someone who knows what they are doing govern.

I foresee a problem with this. If the fly is smushed onto the teleprompter screen, BO will lose his place. Of course, he can use his standby excuse BUSHDIDIT  but the rest of us have to suffer through the um, um, er, er, uh, uhs that would follow.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh rotflmbo... god.. what did presidents do before teleprompters... oh that's right...they knew what they were saying and could just spill it out... guess I'm not old enough...
I did take Speech in high school and we used index cards... is that relative at all...:tonguewag:
Then again.. if that poor fly did meet his demise on that pesky old teleprompter.. they would have to use the Windex that they need to be using on the WH windows so we have some of that transparency that was so touted during the current POTUS campaign...

I would certainly think that any insect touched by "The President" would be of equal or greater value than that (considering Media Reaction, at least) so, yes, I'd say that we should expect to see the insect (or what's left of it) enshrined in a place of honor, at taxpayer expense of course, in the not too distant future.

I think your goal is to bait anyone you can. Such a waste of valuable time.

Ain't that just grand? New poster (snicker) accusing another long term poster of baiting.
Miami and Flareon, how bout a Fly Czar? S/he can stand around BO whenever he is giving a presser (translated to 24/7, lol) and watch for flies. When s/he sees one, s/he would get the handy PETA donated trap and scoot that fly right on out the door. Problem solved so BO doesn't get buzzed off during the pressers.
Pesky old flies.. if they fly in front of his vision line might cause havoc with the teleprompter..
Never did like flies.. I think the idea of a fly czar is a good idea.. think how wonderful the picnics on the white house lawn would be with no flies.. ahhhhhhhh pure heaven..

Yet, I don't see one thread on the Iran situation, or other hot topics on the news today. Guess news is slow in the summer?

I think these questions and comments in your post would best be directed and answered by the MEDIA who have decided fly catching was newsworthy - NOT us lowly posters. It even made the FINANCIAL NEWS today.
Go ahead, ask the MEDIA why this is "news" or important news to report.

I think the fly should consider himself pretty lucky.
This time last year, he would have been beaten senseless, transported to Guantanimo, and personally waterboarded by Cheney himself.
Why?
Because he was in a "No-Fly Zone", and a threat to "Homeland Security".

Hey, if not for those serious reporters chatting about this, we might have shrugged this off as a routine fly killing.
mornin. it was a bit of fluff.. no different than when they showed bush exercising or cutting logs for 30 seconds. if they had spent 30 min evaluating any of the aforementioned it WOULD be absurd. every time i saw it it was like..right before a commercial. just a moment in a president's life. but yes...now i do believe he could take joe the plumber and turn him into the next karate kid. and..yes peta IS actually protesting him killin the fly. have a good morn

Desperation never fails.
The OP didn't create all of this. You might want to contact the media about "scraping the bottom of the barrel."
Desperation? No, it doesn't fail, does it?

Morning Miami...
Yeppers... check it out.. even the most quoted paper aka blog on this board and considered to be know all of what Obama does and doesn't do is talking about it..
WASHINGTON — The group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wants the flyswatter in chief to try taking a more humane attitude the next time he's bedeviled by a fly in the White House.
PETA is sending President Barack Obama a Katcha Bug Humane Bug Catcher, a device that allows users to trap a house fly and then release it outside.
"We support compassion even for the most curious, smallest and least sympathetic animals," PETA spokesman Bruce Friedrich said Wednesday. "We believe that people, where they can be compassionate, should be, for all animals."

Hahaha -- PETA is not protesting the fly. They were contacted by the media so they made this comment:
Believe it or not, we've actually been contacted by multiple media outlets wanting to know PETA's official response to the executive insect execution.
In a nutshell, our position is this: He isn't the Buddha, he's a human being, and human beings have a long way to go before they think before they act.

 Better tell Huff Puff... lol
Friedrich said that PETA was pleased with Obama's voting record in the Senate on behalf of animal rights and noted that he has been outspoken against animal abuses.
Still, "swatting a fly on TV indicates he's not perfect," Friedrich said, "and we're happy to say that we wish he hadn't."
Can't honestly believe this was even discussed in the media.. but then again when it considers who did the swatting I guess I shouldn't be..

Obama kills annoying fly, then keeps going in TV interview
http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/090617/koddities/us_obama_dead_fly_1 chalk it up to the continual slobbering love fest the liberal media has with obama.. he hasn't delivered on promises so they have to run with the "fly" story. lol..

I foresee a problem with this. If the fly is smushed onto the teleprompter screen, BO will lose his place. Of course, he can use his standby excuse BUSHDIDIT  but the rest of us have to suffer through the um, um, er, er, uh, uhs that would follow.
ROFLMBO, funniest post of the day! IMO, turn about is fair play, they had a field day running Bush into the ground, now it's our turn, and they are having a hard time dealing with it...we should ALL stop this, but i'm enjoying reading their reactions...poor babies.

Could it be theal, that we are just having a little harmless fun? Are we not allowed to do that? This forum gets pretty tedious most of the time with all the insults to the "RIGHTWINGERS/REPUB carp, or don't you see it? It's a silly subject, yes, but it's causing giggles and that's very important in todays 'scary' situation. Laugh a little, it's good for you.

I'm glad that some got some much needed laughter. It's ridiculous that the media latches on to anything they can use to heap even more praise on BO, but the whole thing is sad and laughable at the same time. And some of the comments here are priceless!!!
I realize that humor, especially sarcastic humor, can go right over some people's heads but many thanks to those who joined in for some harmless fun.

Who cares what PETA thinks anyway? They've gone too far and I think are extreme LW these days.
For those of you who are wondering how you can get rid of pesky bugs (and most of us don't have BO's exceptional fly catching talents) I wanted to tell you about this neat gadget I found on eBay. It looks like a small tennis racket and takes batteries. It has metal netting and when you swat at the fly, bee or whatever is "bugging" you, you just press a button and ZAP!, the insect is literally toast. Love it. I wonder if PETA ever tried to outlaw these hand-held bug zappers. And they better not even chastise me for killing bees especially since my son is highly allergic and has wound up in the ER after getting stung.
Off to grill some meat. Have a nice day, all.

Thanks for giving us the outlet to have some fun by starting this thread. Humor is one of the good things we have left.....at least some of us!
This has all got me thinking too. I'm thinking instead of having someone to whack annoying flies, we may have someone to release annoying flies at just the right time - like when a tough question is asked - it will provide such a nice diversion, everyone will forget the tough question.
sshhh, don't give 'em any ideas
