How do you think animal abusers should be punished? What about a law that would prohibit anyone who has abused an animal from ever owning another pet?

I say yes. I think harsh fines are a good way to punish too. It's obvious that our laws are not going to put people in jail for these offenses for very long. There are a few exceptions.

There are barely enough funds to put people in prison who harm humans, so I don't think the law will change on how long people will be incarerated. Those animal abusers do deserve jail IMO. Since they know they won't be sent to jail for long, a large fine may have some impact. Of course for psychopaths, it doesn't matter. It will not deter them. They are compelled to harm animals and humans without remorse.

Hi, Debb! Excellent post! A large fine is an excellent idea. However, I think making these people work in a zoo among animals that are able to defend themselves is also a good idea. They would be supervised closely, of course. Here's another idea. Whatever they did to an animal should be done to them.

my friend just rescued a kitty last nite...it was about 6 or 7 weeks...neighbor boy had it in a trash can and throwing firecrackers in. he also tried to catch the kitty on fire...neighbors little girl came to get me and my friend as she knows what animal rescuers we are..the boy was stomping on the kitty when we got there...my friend took it home and it is just bones..so she feed it and is clean its little eyes because it has eye infects. shes going to see how it does then take it to the vet.
but I think we should put the boy in a trash can and throw firecracker in it...let him see how it feels...well I know we cant do this. but why arent kids tought how to respect and love animals? were going over to talk to the mom today..lets see if she cares.

Hi, CHITCHAT! You & I are on the same page. I think people who abuse animals should have the very same thing done to them that they do to animals. They need to learn what it feels like, maybe then they'd understand that inflicting pain on any living thing is cruel!!!! Since we can't very well do this, they should be sent to jail just like any other criminal. Children that abuse animals should be sent to Juvenile Hall where they will be taught what their parents obviously haven't taught them. :cursing: There is just no excuse for animal abuse. A lot of serial killers start out abusing animals. :scared: IMO

It is truly heart breaking to hear of the horrible way some people treat animals just for their own entertainment. It boggles the mind.

I will never forget seeing a young boy, I think about 16 years old, cut the upper side of the neck of a horse when I was a little girl. He was sitting on the horse near our house and the horse was not doing anything wrong. He cut it with his pocket knife. It was about 5 inches long. It did bleed some, but the horse didn't move or make any sound. I cried and couldn't believe he was so mean. I don't know what happened to that boy or the horse. I bet the boy is now dead or in prison. I was only about 5 years old, but will never forget it.

I now wonder if that boy was abused at home or if he was a sociopath.

Hi, Debb! You're right, that boy is probably now in prison or dead. I'm sorry that you had to witness such a terrible thing. I've often read that is how serial killers start out. I wonder if some people are just born bad. Maybe, it's just because they choose to be that way. I'll say it again, there is no excuse for animal abuse. I have no tolerance or sympathy for people who abuse animals. They are evil and add absolutely nothing to being on this planet. IMO :cursing:

I think they should have to go to Pet School, like Traffic School where they can learn about proper dog, cat, bird or equine husbandry.
Depending on the case or the circumstances as each case is different.

This recent case, the cat dissections, I think he should do 5 yrs, 2 yrs in, the rest probation. That's what I'd give him. And tons of counseling for his "condition" because it's whack.

Hi, bugout! That's an excellent idea! However, I also think this boy should have to compensate all those families who lost their pets because of him. I know it won't bring their beloved pets back, but, it just might teach this boy a valuable lesson. IMO :cursing:

BIG fines, lots of prison time with mandatory counseling after a thorough mental screening by more than one psychiatrist. Find out how sick they are and what it will take before setting them loose on an unsuspecting society.

Repeat offenders deserve no more mercy than they did when they choose to inflict pain upon the most vulnerable of us. Those are the kind who need years of prison with the key thrown away.

Ugh. Murderers in the making. I say get rid of them before they kill someone.

I totally agree with Spyder88! IMHO, staking them out to an ant hill might be an option.

I think so too, horsephotog! Anyone who abuses animals would most definitely deserve it. They need to be taught a lesson. One they won't soon forget. IMO :cursing:

Exactly, SavannahStar! You can tell a lot about a person by the way they treat animals. IMO

I think they deserve the actions that they inflicted upon the animals. I know that won't happen though. To be more realistic, I'd expect jail time and community service. While fines are good, I think many hours of service are more memorable. Also counseling to evaluate the person at their expense. There is something deeply wrong that they can get enjoyment out of inflicting pain on an animal.

ALL states should have Felony animal cruelty laws....and now days there is this great thing called the internet that is used in animal cruelty...remote hunting & "crush" videos. There needs to be HARSH punishment all way around. States must come together since the internet "crosses state lines".
