Don't forget that the new season starts this Sunday on HBO. Also, season one is on demand if you need to catch up! From reading some spoilers, Eric is going to be in a lot more episodes this season and Jason is going to keep his clothes on. boo!
I personally can't wait for the season to start and I hope it's as good as the last one!!

Supposedly, from what I got from other websites, she is a Maenad. I'm not sure what she is going to do or what she wants to do, but I don't think it's going to turn out well for Tara, Eggs or Sam. I don't like her character as much. Maybe she will grow on me because she is supposed to have a bigger part in this season.

Sam and MaryAnne are shapeshifters. Looking at it Sunday night it appears her and Sam had a previous relationship when he was 17. Can't wait to find out what happened in between as apparently MaryAnne has come to town looking for Sam and I don't think it is good
Article from 11/08 identifying Sam as a shapeshifter:
http://defamer.gawker.com/5082424/true-blood-shapeshifter-sam-lays-out-the-shapeshifting-rulesenue-one-day/
Shapeshifters explained - more at link:
THE BASICS
Shapeshifters can change from human form to animal form at any time. They are not tied to moon as myth says, and can change form at any time. A shapeshifter is an animal in a human body, and this means that in private they act like their animal form. They have quick reflexes, super-human strength and incredible smell, sight and hearing. It is very difficult to suprise a shapeshifter, and they can identify a species by their scent.
BECOMING A SHAPESHIFTER
There are two ways to become a shapeshifter; be born a shapeshifter or recieve a deep wound from a shapeshifter. Four days after the injury was sustained a shapeshifter will change shape for the first time. The new shapeshifter will have no control over the change and this is the most common way for a shapeshifter to kill a human. Most clans have strict rules about attacking humans, and if a human is injured they do all they can to keep the human away from humans for four days. Clans have been known to kidnap injured humans just to be safe. Occasionally an injured human will not shapeshift after four days, but usually a deep injury means infection. Although it usually takes a deep wound to infect a human, shallower/smaller wounds have been known to change a human into a shapeshifter.

My cable company offered 4 days of free HBO last weekend. I watched the first episode of True Blood. I was hooked, and watched the following 11 episodes, one after another. Anna Paquin has sure grown up since "The Piano." Her Sookie is a three dimensional character. This show, like other successful premium cable channel series would never work if it was laundered for commercial network television. I tried watching "Sex in the City" and "Queer As Folk" episodes after having seen both series on HBO and Showtime, when they moved to commercial television. They are so butchered for "content" that they hardly resemble both original cable acclaimed series. Getting back to True Blood, the talented ensemble cast, (kudos to the casting director), and the good writing and direction, keep the show from being just another cheesy Vampire opus. Bill, is well, Bill. I wouldn't change anything about him. I like the idea that casting went with Stephen Moyer, a guy in his late 30s, rather than a 20 something Hollywood prettyboy. Ryan Kwanten is right on the mark as Jason. For years the ultimate performance for the dumb blond male has belonged to Bill Pullman for his tour de force performance in "Ruthless People." The torch has now been passed to Ryan for his dumber than dirt Jason. I think, that like QAF, True Blood will always be a cult favorite, and will end when the producers choose to end it, or major cast member contracts end, and they want out. For now though, let's just clink our bottles of Trublood, and laissez les bons temps rouler...

Maryanne is a maenad, not a shapeshifter. If she was a shapeshifter, she could not have made Sam change and she could not have created the "interesting" behavior of the patrons at Merlotte's. She is apparently going to have a bigger part than she had in the books but I think that is a good thing.

The ending tonight left me sitting on the edge of my chair. The writers of this show are incredible.
There were quite a few good components tonight
The scene with Jason in the Church
Marianne doing that "move" and turning Sam into his animal self
Jessica going to her parents' house
Bill furious with Sookie
And I thought the opening scene where Bill is describing Jessica but denying it was just due to her being a teenager - was cute when Sookie rattled off his adjectives and said "multiple transformations" indeed a teen
So far so good !!!
ITA!!! I loved last season, but this one looks like it's going to be even better. The writing is outstnading, and I love what they are doing with the characters as Bill and Sookie become this mature couple with "issues" (LOL) and the supporting characters get even more to do.
I'm so glad Lafayette isn't dead (well, sort of!). And Eric's scene with the foil and the blood in his hair had me LMAO. I don't want to wait a week to see what happens next!

I would watch Season 1 just so you get a feel for what happened because Season 2 is very close time wise to the first season. If you could even catch one of those 5 minute what happens or find A Taste of True Blood(I think it's on HBO on demand), it's a half hour show with all of the events so far.
I have not read or watched Twilight, but from what I hear it's not the same at all. jmo I'm sure that you are gonna love the show. Let us know what you think!!!

In the books it was Maryann in her maenad form that attacked Sookie.
And while Eric and crew did feed on Lafayette, it takes far more than that to make someone a vampire. At this point, Lafayette is still human.

Yes, there are quite a few books. They are pretty easy to read and the show does not follow them completely so reading them does not ruin the show for you. The author is Charlaine Harris. Here is her web site:

I got all of mine from the library and read all of them (except the last; it just came out) during season 1.

There were so many things with that episode. I'm gonna try and remember all my little comments LOL
I really wanted to like Daphne. I mean I knew she was too good to be true, but I didn't think it would be that blatant of a betrayal.
Lafayette seeing Eric in Andy was just too much. I laughed so hard. Also Terry helping him out was great.
I think that Eric calling Lorena was kinda bad, but I'm going to excuse it because he's ten different kinds of hot. The flashback scene with Bill and Lorena was kind of uh...graphic. I'm hoping we get some Sookie/Lorena fighting, when she gets outta that basement!!! I'm saying that knowing full well that she will eventually get out of there. Either by way of Jason, the vampires or the "holy" Mrs. Newlin lol
If you guys haven't watched the videos of the True Blood cast at Comic Con, you really should. They have the Q & A panel and then they have a little preview of what's left in the season.

LOL - I can't believe I missed that it was Sookie's grandmother's clothes, of course! Maybe Tara missed it because she seems to go in and out of being hoodooed by Maryanne, and that whole angle of the story looks like it's going in the somewhat traditional Satanic direction right now. I like both of their characters when they are with other actors but their scenes together have gotten too cheesy. I don't think it's their fault at all. It's the writers fault. I tried to get my mom to watch the rerun of last weeks episode and she watched about half and said Yeah I don't like this show. I was devastated!!
 Couldn't you have started her off with an episode that wasn't quite so graphic?

That episode was fantastic from beginning to end!!! Poor Godric. That ending was so very sad.
Yay! to Lafayette for getting Tara out of there and for bringing her mother. Somebody has to come in and stop Maryanne before she ruins everybody!!! I just hope poor Sam makes it through this without having his whole life ruined.

I had about as many tears as Sookie at the end.
Only three more episodes left!

I was crying too, I really liked Godric. Does anyone know why Eric was so determined to link Sookie to him by blood? Is it just because she's a telepath or is there something more?

I can give you the most non spoiler answer that I can think of and that is he is intrigued by Sookie. Not only the whole telepath thing, but some more stuff. There are a lot of things that happen in the books. I won't go into it because I don't want to spoil the rest of the show. Who knows which they will take it in the show. Ball has said that he will stick to the books as a guide, but there are some things he will change.

Three episodes........
I was very upset about Godric too. He was a wonderful character.
Maryann becomes more frightening each week. The "Hunter's Souffle" scene was really creepy!!!

OK I don't know how I feel about that episode other than it was too short. I'm not sure where this is going, but I don't think I'm gonna like it.
Oh and Woo Hoo for more Sam!!

That scene of Jason playing God was hilarious! But WTH is with the 45 minute episode? And what's with the Queen?
I have a feeling you are right about not liking where this is going, Crispy, although there's always Eric. . .

I'm so excited about tonight's episode!! We will get to see the queen. oh and guess what? We get to see Eric fly!!!! It's supposed to be in this episode and I can't wait! I hope they don't decide to do another 45 minute episode. I felt seriously let down with that.

OK that episode was funny!! Jason gets some of the best lines.
Sam can't die OK? That's just something that can't happen. Now, I have to wait two weeks to find out what happens and even then who knows, because we all know that Alan Ball has to end on the mother of all cliff hangers!
I really enjoyed the Queen. I'm anxious to see more of her. I think they said she will be in Season 3 as well.

Loved the Queen - she was hilarious! Can't believe this season is almost over, I wish this was year round. And I want Eric for Christmas, or Halloween, or whatever.:sneaky:

ITA, The Queen was great!!!
I just love Eric too, did you notice when he and Bill were standing face to face after Bill left the Queen, how tiny Bill looks compared to him???! It almost looked fake!
Crispy, no, Sam cannot die!!! But I think Bill HAS to make him into a vampire so that Maryann leaves him alone......

Oh pick me! Pick me! I watch it like crazy LOL
Bill can't make Sam a vampire. Sookie would never forgive him. (Which doesn't make me too sad. I'm hoping he drives her all the way to Eric for at least one good bedroom/shower scene ) He's already gonna be in trouble once Sookie finds out about the Queen/Cousin Hadley deal. I do believe that she will find out in season 3 and it will hit the fan with a quickness.
Poor Sam can never catch a break. He's such a good guy and he gets the short end every time. I think they need to bring in a fantastic love interest for him so he can have a good day LOL

Eric certainly has grown on me. Thought the scene with Sookie was sexy too! This last episode left me again sitting on the edge of my seat. I couldn't believe Maryanne got to Lafayette. What is Bill going to do to Sam ???? (scared)

Lets not forget our Season 2 finale!! I'm so anxious to see what happens with Maryanne and that stupid egg!! Then again, I'm sad because I know that I'll have to wait until summer 2010 to see what happens with the cliff hanger, because lets be real...it's Alan Ball, you know there is going to be a massive cliff hanger LOL

That episode IMO was a massive letdown. They should have done the Maryanne thing earlier in the season and ended with the Godric storyline. There were some funny lines and a couple good scenes, but all in all I was not impressed. That makes me very sad.
BTW, replace the queen. In a show that is full of fabulous actors she really stinks. I'm normally not this cranky after True Blood.

Morning Crispy. I was let down too. I watched it twice last night, just to make sure I wasn't missing something....but felt just as let down the second time.

I completely agree that they should have switched those two storylines and ended with the Godric one - it was so much more effective and original. I liked the Maryanne stuff, but let's face it, Satanism is much more familiar and "so what?" than Godric and Eric.
I don't mind the queen as much as you do. Evan Rachel Wood is really a good young actress, but she's far too young (I think she's about 22) for that part. She's vamping it up (no pun intended) but that part needs an actress with more serious chops than she has. Anyway, I'm with you - it was a letdown.

To those of us who have read the books, the idea that ERW is too young is sort of funny. The Queen was supposed to be a barely adolescent girl of 13/14 when she became a vampire. Someone who appears harmless and even cute until she begins using her power. I always pictured someone like Dakota Fanning playing her. So I thought ERW was too old to play her!

Oh that's funny! And now that I know it, I think it would have been a great idea to bring in that character at the right age - what a contrast with the others!
