Since I'm still officially a Republican, I fall into that category.

I feel for your pain!

I am going to change my registration before the next election. I was a Republican all my life but the extremists have taken over the party. I no longer want to associate myself with them.

Don't feel bad. I changed over after the 04 election. The party has been going downhill ever since Falwell and the Moral Majority started working their way in around 79. Now it bears almost no resemblance to the party I was introduced to many years ago.
Thanks (again) for comforting me. Like I said a million times, old habits die hard. I guess mine took a little longer than yours but I think I'm now at the same place you are.

It's never easy to give up your party / convictions. It was one of the hardest things I ever did. But I'm sure glad I did it!

It was made easier by the extremists pushing out Colin Powell and others who had the audacity to like Obama's policies. The party will become a fringe party if it continues on this path.

That might be beat. Make room for another party to compete. Seems the USA is only capable of two dominate parties at the same time.:w00t:

The 4 out of 10 need to step up, speak out and take a stand if there is any hope of saving the Republican party. I would love to see a viable, stong and "real" conservative party. But as long as the powers that be continue to cater to the extreme right, the evangelicals, the hatemongers then they will continue to lose Americans.

I really hate o say this, but if it actually documented that 4 of 10 Republicans say this..you can only imagine the true numbers.. Many are maybe in fear to speak out or admit their shame and misgivings..so this number just maybe the tip of the iceberg...

Extrapulating that point..just maybe the Republican Party that we all know..will never be the same..as it just may get replaced by a newer, more realistic thinking machine that will reach the populous...We can alway hope anyway..?? ( not for myself of course..I'm not even part of US Politics) I care, because what goes on down there effects me too..even if indirectly..so come on guys..get your act together!! Name calling..wishing for failure is not going to be helpful!!

LMS:rolleyes:

For the past few months, political analysts and demographers have been poring over the results of the 2008 election and comparing them with presidential results from the past two decades. From whatever angle of their approach -- age, race, economic status, geography -- they have come to a remarkably similar conclusion. Almost all indicators are pressing the Republicans into minority status.

This is a great article. The numbers are fascinating.
