I have a question I keep hearing on JVM and HLN that Lyons is known to cry in front of the jurors now if true why can families not show any emotion during a trial or verdict or they are ask to leave the courtroom I have seen it many times on the live trials

It may not be allowed in the Florida courts. Chicago and Florida are worlds apart on that sort of thing, I believe.

Good morning everyone! Great job on the new thread Ma.
I think Andrea Lyon gets emotional because she is fighting to save a defendant's life, she is dead set against the death penalty. I do not think it is manipulation or an act.
At any rate, in reading her words about exactly how an attorney should go about defending a DP case, I have learned that she will try
and get the perp to plea.
I think that will be her first move with the OC. If she can pry jose away from anthony, long enough to gain her trust, she may just be able to make the OC see her legal predicament.
As she is doing this, she will file a motion pointing out why the State was wrong is seeking death in this case. I am anxiously awaiting this motion, because I think it will be very revealing as to how Lyon intends to defend the OC.

I have heard that it was because her strong feelings on the DP so just wondered and I am awaiting to see just how much control JB will give up..IMO she should push for a plea as long as it is LWOP I am just not sure KC will do that I mean she is now saying if she get death she will kill herself before they give her the needle..I guess we shall see...lol

I agree with you Ma, it has to be LWOP, the State would not accept anything less, imo. I'm sure Lyon understands this, she is very experienced.
I doubt the OC will accept any plea tho, this evil female will never admit to murdering Caylee. Lyon has to present that option to her tho and once the OC refuses it, then Lyon can proceed in her defense.

I wonder if she ever takes a moment and weeps for the victim who never had the chance to choose between life and death? I understand what she is doing, but sometimes it just makes me angry and sad at the same time.

I think Lyon will tell Casey that the nanny defense just won't float and that they have no where else to go because there's no way to keep it out after she gave a statement about it. No matter what defense they come up with the detectives will testify about Zanny. I believe even ZG is scheduled to testify. I'm wondering if Baez will allow Lyon's to have any alone time with Casey for fear of what will happen if she ever realizes the corner he helped her back herself into. Baez is counting on HIS day in court.

I disagree. From what I've read and heard so far about Lyon, I get the impression she a no nonsense individual.
IMO...Lyon will not try to pry OC from JB. She will sever any contact between JB and Casey. If Lyon has a game plan, I'm sure she wouldn't want JB interfering.
Lyon will not waste time trying to gain Casey's trust. Lyon will cut to the chase and give Casey a large dose of you are in very serious trouble reality. I can just picture Lyon demand Casey to start telling the truth now because if I don't believe you, neither will the jury.
I do agree Lyon's objective is to get Casey to take a plea.

Bala, see the video I just posted. By Florida law, Lyon is the first chair lead attorney. In the video she says that, but then goes on to explain she is an equal member of the "team." IMO, that was to placate the ego sensitive jose baez, who was standing next to her.

Thanks Scampi for bringing up this video yesterday morning. I had read post about it but hadn't actually got to view it yet. It is my belief that when Biaz was trying to goad the reporters into going across the street and asking the pros questions, it was their was of trying to use the media to get the rest of the states evidence out there. They might be at a huge standstill trying to figure out if they should stick to the SODDI defense or go with a mental defense. I usually am not turned on by over aggressive media types, but in this case, Kathy, you go girl!!!

Especially if Cindy has read the article you posted the otheh day about much of the behavior of the people charged in a DP case can be tied back to their childhood. (I can't remember the exact wording). hee hee hee!
imo
FGS, can you imagine being the person for the defense in charge of talking with Cindy for information about Casey? The person who is looking for everything and anything that could be used as a mitigating factor during the penalty phase.
Cindy won't want to do it. She'll say, "She hasn't been convicted, yet!"
Not realizing that these things take time. That the biggest job of a DP attorney is not only preparing for the trial, but preparing for the penalty phase.
Oh boy, just thinking about it, I feel sorry for someone.:cursing:

Someone needed to take control of this trial and defend it in the best possible way. No room for appeals later on. I have a feeling Lyons and Baez will have many arguments over how things need to be done. Baez, IMO, has not been doing whats in the best interest of his client. He's only been trying to get his name out there.
Baez might still have a valuable position as "go between" with Casey since he and she have such a good rapport. Lyon will give Baez his instructions, and then he will try to convince his girl.

Hi Steps, I just loved Kathy, she was like a dog with a bone. What should we ask the prosecutors? Got one of the idiots to even run away from her so as not to have to answer her question. lol lol

Hi and good morning to all! I also agree that there will be huge disagreements between JB and AL. AL has one motive - to remove the death penalty. JB hasn't been taking this seriously at all, imo. It has been widely rumored that he is more interested in what's underneath Casey's clothing than laying out a sound strategy for her defense.
AL enters the scene and all will change. Some of us were discussing last night how Casey and Cindy appeared to be quite upset at the last court appearance. It is possible that AL has already brought a reality check to Casey in terms of her life seriously being in danger.
JB and Casey were, imo, acting out in an unreal world together. JB had no strategy at all for how to go about defending his client - other than to attack the forensics and begin to make what seemed like futile attempts that SODDIT. AL is a sharp woman and I have complete confidence that, once she is totally familiar with the case and has gotten a feeling for nobody-home Casey, she is going to go for a plea deal to get the DP off the table. JB couldn't have done this, even if he was DP qualified, because he is too emotionally attached and smitten by his client as well as his own self. Casey played him like a slot machine. But she won't be able to do that with AL. AL will be the voice of reason and reality. This is all my opinion of course.

Yes, and to that end I believe that Lyon will NOT allow Caylee Anthony to be forgotten in that courtroom. This is a pro and the case she presents will be exceptional, imo.
I can be totally with the prosecution in this case and still admire Lyon and her passionate defense of a person facing death.
To me it is very gratifying that the OC is having to face the death penalty. I think that is just. I do not want her to actually receive it tho, not because I am against the DP per se, but because I believe it is too easy an out, for the suffering she caused Caylee Anthony.

"Also on your to-do list in a capital case is to decide whether
your client needs to go to trial at all. The importance of negotiation
cannot be stressed enough. If it is possible to settle your
case with a plea for life or a term of years, you should work to
do that. Many factors play into the ability to negotiate: strength
of the prosecution’s murder case, strength of the aggravation
case, whether it is an election year (is the judge going to worry
about how he looks to the electorate?), whether you are an
opponent the prosecution respects, and a host of other issues."
From Scampi's PDF.
Interesting.

I think cynthia got the bad news already that as part of Lyon defending the OC, she will be opening two files. One about the case and one about the defendant's life, from birth until the present. Not good news for the family who took the fun out of dysfunctional, imo.
Read this PDF A, Lyon really gives us a preview of exactly how she is preparing this case, imo. It's not long, only six pages.

Baez was bumbling the other day about the State not getting back to him on WHY they are seeking the DP. I was wondering if there was a score card on AGG FACTORS. If a minimum were needed. I didn't think so. Because I've seen cases where there were 3, 8, etc. All over the board.
So, Baez was rambling about a whole lotta nothing, IMO. The State doesn't need to get back to him about anything. Caylee was under 12. There!!! That in itself can be a reason, Jose.

Thank you very much. Great read. The involvment of the family is critical in her strategy. My favorite line: "Before you interview your client's family members, be sure to have in mind some of the different possible reactions they may have".

Interesting.'
Where does the negotiation come into play when she's already claiming her client is innocent? Of course she's not read much about the case yet. That didn't stop her from towing the innocent line. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Lyon says according to Florida law she is designated lead counsel but she considers herself a member of the team. Jose  already said that LKB is his "right-hand man" and "I have" the best DP qualified attorney working for me. Which is it? Can Baez be leader but not lead?
I think this is a case of allowing the rooster to crow, while the "hens" deliver the goods.

I was waiting for one of the reporters to ask Baez if he was aware of even one time the Prosecutors gave a new con. or answer question. They are the ones Not trying this case in the media. Baez could learn a few things from them.
JB runs out to gives his new conf. and the Prosecutors go fishing:biggrin: or that is what he says it is a fishing exhibition

Yes, I know. However, when all this first started and I knew nothing about it, my initial perceptions of him were that he was a human and had actual feelings, that he loved his granddaughter. Caylee and Cindy, on the other hand, struck me has having serious personality disorders. We all choose our fate I guess and George did choose Cindy and made the OC with her. But there is still something tragic about him that I can't shake. He was so forthcoming at the beginning of the trial and now is just an emasculated shadow of a man.
He seemed to give some info but not enough to really do any damage. My take was that he was trying to play both sides of the fence. Also to see what info he could get out of LE. He tried the good ole boy with the police/fbi but proved that he's in this all the way. Anything to get casey off. I also feel that he grabbed hold of this money making scheme almost from the start. He wants this to work and he's not letting it go. The showing up at Haleighs camp irritated me to no end. His mission seems to be to make money off this nightmare. I just can't respect anyone that does this. Shouldn't his main mission in life be to find the "real killer" of his own grandbaby? It's not...he's just letting LE take care of that. WTH?

The A's have done nothing but CTA. Their defense of KC now is not about KC but about their own butts and maybe for once CA will recognize that her manipulation days with KC are over. They may be keeping the family secret but KC isn't.

I had a problem with both of them early on. I felt they were covering up Caylees murder. Glad they kept talking and proved me right.
These parents IMO knew from the day they got that car. Maybe even before. The fact they went straight to the backyard to look for Caylee in the same spots the dogs hit, almost makes me wonder if they knew she was there and went to see if casey moved her from the backyard once they smelled the car. Then to put that car in a closed garage and wash it???? yeah. IMO they maybe knew before they got the car.

There is no doubt in my mind that the "skeletons" are the first thing that KC told JB and thats when he let his emotions overide his professional duty. It is her defense to why she did all of this to Caylee. Mrs. Lyons is going to hear the same reasoning and although I do believe that AL will get DP off the table, it is not going to change the verdict in the end.

I agree that they are covering up for Casey. I don't think they knew before the death smell because Cindy was truly panicked in the 911 call where she said "the damn car smells like there's a dead body in it". I believe, after the gas can incident, Casey freaked and dumped the body in a hurry, close to home where they found it. I believe that George and Cindy would have gone to extreme measures, if needed, to get the truth out of Casey. And the cover up began. I really do think there is a lot the Anthonys want to hide in their family history.
I'm betting you're right, I think there's a lot of violence in that home. They are trying their best to hide that fact. I think it went the way you said but there is still a part of me that wonders if maybe they knew before the car was found. Or at least suspected. It took cindy 3 calls before she mentioned Caylee.
Bolding mine...
I wonder if Lyon would even need JB's permission to visit w/Casey? Couldn't AL just show up at the jail and ask to visit w/Casey? Why would she have to go through JB to see Casey? I certainly hope that AL can get some alone time to visit w/Casey because I think she would lay it all on the line and explain to Casey how much trouble she is in, and what her options are.

ITA. I believe Casey will spend the rest of her life in prison without the possibility of ever dancing at Fusion again, spending money, stealing money, forging checks or having numerous sex hookups. She will never again be able to go to nude parties, pee in a parking lot, drive a car or enjoy freedom of any kind.
I think she will be able to continue doing all the above except drive a car. Of course Sally will have to agree to having her cell turned into a ghetto form of Fusion every Friday night, but she can be bought off with Pop-tarts.

This is why I believe LWOP is a most fitting punishment for OC. Put that little narcissistic snot into a situation that she can't charm herself out of. Sally, Martha and Bertha are waiting and have their tooth admissions in their pockets.
I may just have to send money to Sally and the girls accounts if they "initiated" casey. There goes the perfect straight teeth the anthonys hold so dear.
LOL
