The Birthright Citizenship Act (Nathan Deal-GA) would eliminate automatic citizenship for children born in the United States to illegal aliens.
HR 1868 would establish birthright citizenship only if one of the parents is: (1) a U.S. citizen; (2) a lawful permanent resident alien in the US; or (3) an alien on active service in the U.S. Armed Forces.
Our current policy encourages women to enter the United States illegally so that they can gain citizenship for these "anchor babies".
It has to stop.

I agree. But, I wonder if or how it would (and imo should) change the policies for MCal insurance. Their applications clearly state that documented and undocumented aliens may be eligible (do not need to be a US citizen). I was told, directly by an employee, that right now they are cutting back and denying MCal to many, including recently laid off individuals with children - even for the children, who are US citizens..even for a temporary time - while the parent searches diligently for a job.

I couldn't agree more. Where do I sign the petition?

Here ya Go!

A person may become a United States citizen by birth or through naturalization. Generally, if you are born in the United States or born to U.S. citizens, you are born a U.S. citizen, unless you are born to a foreign diplomat. You are also considered a U.S. citizen at birth if you were born in Puerto Rico, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

I still don't understand the problem..or should I say your problem?

It's not only a problem for this poster - it's a problem for many of us. The anchor baby problem is bankrupting us.

Many of us have this 'problem.' The illegal aliens are bankrupting us. Look at what's happening in California.

I agree but do want to make one comment.

We have "illegal immigrants" that are in our Military. IMO they should automatically become NAT as well as their families as soon as they enlist. I get so tired of reading about some of these young men and women getting killed and being made citizens posthumously and yet part of the recruiting officer's practices are to promise them citizenship as well as their families if they enlist. If they are willing to die for this country -- surely making them NAT is only fair. JMHO

I totally agree with this. If they are enlisted in our military, naturalization should be automatic.

Citizenship is inherited - that's the way it works the whole world over.

This is an old bad law, created to handle former slave owners who were trying to persecute black people by claiming they weren't citizens because their parents were not.

IMO - birthright citizenship doesn't apply to legals anyway - I'd love to see someone ask the Supreme Court what they think. The phrase "AND subject to the jurisdiction thereof" - sounds to me like it means it would not apply to the children of illegals, would apply to the children of slaves. Illegals are not subject to our jurisdiction - were they, we'd have them out - they're hiding here, not here at our command as slaves were. So it's clear - the former slaves were "subject" our jurisdiction, the illegals are not.

It isn't hate and bitterness, it's common sense!

These laws regarding immigration were made long before the issues we have now in our country. Something needs to be done to fix this problem. It clearly is a problem, like it or not. If these people want their children to become citizens, they should become citizens first. Sounds like most of them just want to leech off our system-and that is just wrong.

If you have not already, go to NumbersUSA and join the fight. It is a great organization and very up and up, no haters there.

This whole thing (NAFTA, North American Alliances, etc,) has been in the works for a long time. It is not necessarily a bad thing in a lot of ways, but, it is being shoved down our throats and threatening the immediate future of our children and grandchildren. We, as a people, sat back when times were good and let our politicians quietly push these things through and we did nothing.......

NUMBERSUSA is a good site, get involved in a proactive way and not just a message board, if you havent already.

If these children are born in the USA they are citizens. Deport the parents. If they want to take their children with them fine. If not there are many waiting to adopt.

What??? Now you want to ban citizenship to babies who are actually born here??? Amazing. Absolutely amazing.
Where does the hate and bitterness end?

Y'all need to pray and read the bible.
Do you know the second commandment? If you do and you are a believer...you are breaking it.

From the Bible, New Revised Standard Version (and King James), from Exodus, the second commandment (Idolatry) reads:

"4 You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and the fourth generation of those who reject me,

6 but showing steadfast love to the thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments."

Idolatry has what to do with denying anchor baby status?

As for when will the hate and bitterness end? When these people quit crossing our borders to take advantage of a system that it's hard working, tax paying, usually denied assistance to the legal citizen have paid into.

People are tired in this country. We, the legal citizens of the USA, are tired of having those things that we have worked hard for and dreamed of are being taken advantage of by a people that could care less that they are stealing jobs and benefits, destroying communities, and importing illegal and harmful substances to poison our children with.

We have lost our confidence because these people have drained a system that many of us have spent years paying into that was intended to help the working legal citizen get through a time of need, see our family still have food on the table and a roof over their head.

Hard working Americans are tired of giving a hand out to people that do everything to cheat a system, reaping the benefits they have not made one move to pay into. I know, for myself, that I became extremely bitter when the system I have been paying into for over 30 years denied me all of my benefits in a dire time of need until I had to fight all the way to my governor's office.

Please explain to me why we should be willing to reward someone for illegally crossing our border and having a baby on US Soil. At the same time, we deny our own citizens the ability to have food, water, and shelter, leaving them to lay in the streets because these same Illegals stole their jobs and way of life.

These people that come here need to realize that, yes, we will help you deliver your child, but when the time comes that we are wheeling you out of the hospital, it is not an assistance card that you will be getting. It will be a bus ride back to your country while we send the bill to your government to cover the expenses. I'm sure if we could hold the Mexican Government liable and forced them to repay us for our kindness, they would also be more than willing to assist the US in patrolling the borders and stopping their citizens from coming over here trying to scam us.

But what is government doing to regulate this??? NOTHING....

I work in Manhattan and I would say that virtually every deli has at least three immigrant workers, either behind the counter, making deliveries..."if" businesses were penalized for hiring immigrant/illegal workers, they would stop hiring them....fine them $1000.00...they will only learn through money, because right now the immigrants can/will work 60 hours a week at min. wage or lower, they don't have to supply them with benefits, OT pay, vacation pay, sick time....which makes them, in most cases more attractive to businesses than an American, with rights.....

We need to prevent businesses from being able to dust this under the rug, beat the system....

Obama Health Plan to Cover 12 Million Illegals

On Friday, Democrats moved one step closer to giving free health insurance to the nation’s estimated 12 million illegal aliens when they successfully defeated a Republican-backed amendment, offered by Rep. Dean Heller, R-Nev., that would have prevented illegal aliens from receiving government-subsidized health care under the proposed plan backed by House Democrats and President Barack Obama

I have a problem with this in theory - but is it better to have them use our ER rooms as their primary care doctor which results in many Emergeny Rooms being shut down?
