I need help again with my dixie...
I noticed her scratching like an old dog about a month ago..I noticed she had a black bump and she scrated it so much it bleed...I put neo-sporin on it and the swelling went down and she stopped scratching...now its a black bump (like a mole) hard and round...well last night while she was getting her nightly rub down...I noticed a second one...first is on neck over shoulder..second is more on neck about two inches away from first....they look like moles, dont seem to bother her and dont seem to be painful...should I take her to the vet?
Or is this just a normal aging process doggies go thru? we develope moles. Do Doggies?..She is my first fur baby, and she has changed my life..for the better.

Yes they can but I always have had them checked by the vet. One of the "moles" actually ended up being a cyst that the doctor was able to drain by squeezing (gross, I know).
If I am remembering correctly, she is not an older dog and is a maltese or Bichon?

Yes, dogs can get moles but they also can get skin cancer & the only way to tell the difference is take her to the vet. Skin cancer can be fatal.

That's exactly what happened to my Abby! I thought it was a mole, but took her in for her yearly shots and asked the vet to check it.
She said it maybe started out as some sort of bug bite.

Did you jump like I did? I thought she was just going to examine it and maybe take a biopsy but then she squeezed and when I saw what happened I screamed at the top of my lungs "OH MY G-D!". The poor doctor jumped back and I know I scared the daylights out of everyone in the waiting room. :scared:

She said it maybe started out as some sort of bug bite. When Oliver went in to be neutered a few months ago, I pointed out a bump on his side. The vet tech didn't seem concerned and said to just keep an eye on it for changes. There have been no changes, but I don't like it. I think I'll make an appt for him when Sofia has to go back for a thyroid check.
We need dog health insurance.

Hi CHITCHAT,
I'm pleased it's no longer then. Are you sure it wasn't a tick? What about the other two moles you mentioned in your OP?

I dont think it was a tick....she only had two ..the one shes had three weeks...the other I only noticed a week ago...its tiny...about a week before I noticed the larger one...I had put the flee and tick med on her...I'm wondering if it wasnt a reaction to that...gosh there's so many things to worry about...
I live in the big city..do we have ticks? I have never seen one...

I'm sure she's fine. The flea and tick medication should prevent any ticks from taking hold.
I didn't mean to worry you.

Sounds like a tick to me. They can get really big and plump before falling off.
Using the flea & tick medicine won't stop her from getting ticks, but it will kill the tick and it will fall off.
Ick - I had one fall on my arm yesterday when I was outside under my pine tree. :w00t:

The little bump she had was black and hard...I thought it was one of those little burrs she had been picking up on her paws in the yard...it was hard. very hard...
I dont allow creatures to get on my fur baby...ha ha...my husband says I pamper her more than I did my kid or grandkids. Thats possible..shes so loving to me...

It's a dog, a dog....not a doggie...that's a child's usage maybe...but it is a dog
sorry...please don't refer to a beautiful horse as a horsey...k?
Thanks
If doggie bothers you, you'd hate to hear how I refer to my dog (just passed two weeks tomorrow). He was my baby and many other words that apparently you would consider childish.
By the way, on my walk yesterday my guest and I petted a horsey worsey who came to greet us as we walked by his pasture.

lol - I'm sitting here with Feddie-Weddie the doxy in my lap as I type. I
guess in a more dignified world that would be Fred the dachshund.
