HI you all. I am gong to be writing DateLine NBC, about a local social issue. Do any of you all have any advice, on the best way to do this. Anyone done anything similar before.
Advice would be much appreciated.

Now here's the thing though. I called them, and they said they don't take show ideas over the phone, you have to write a letter, or send it in an email. So yeah I will direct my letter though to the esecutive producer now, key words, marketable topics, etc. So we'll see.

I don't know what your "local social issue" is, but you might have more chance of it being exposed if you send it to several media folks, such as Keith Olbermann, Rick Sanchez, Bill O'Reilly, etc.
IMO, Rick Sanchez would be a better choice for exposure. Watch his show and you'll see what I mean.
It would be better to write a Certified letter (addresses available on Web Sites).
Be sure to include all documents for verification of the issues, such as newspaper articles, etc.

And use spell check!! Don't send a poorly scripted letter - make it clear concise, and easy to understand.
Watch your punctuation, and don't use three words when one will do.

I would try to get local media involved first. Then send what media attention you have in the letter as well.

First paragraph
The first paragraph should be short and state the purpose of the letter- in this case a show idea
The paragraph or paragraphs in the middle of the letter should contain the relevant information behind the writing of the letter. Most letters in English are not very long, so keep the information to the essentials and concentrate on organising it in a clear and logical manner rather than expanding too much.
Last Paragraph
The last paragraph of a formal letter should state what action you expect the recipient to take- like airing your local issue.

Keep it short, sweet, and to the point. Remember that the person you're sending it to probably has hundreds of letters sent to him/her. S/he probably won't even read it until it's proof read by a worker bee first to make sure it's worth the time.
Good luck.
