View Full Version : We Need A New Law About Lying

It seems that we (the people) can get indicted for perjury (lying in court), or to the FBI, or to the White House, or just about any other government entity.

How about a law that makes it illegal when people in the government lie to us?

Should apply to "official" speeches, statements on the floor of Congress, TV appearances, or any other time that they're trying to make us believe something other than the truth. And no one even questions them about most of them, like they know we expect them to lie to us.

Let's start a dang movement.

Who's with me?

The speech and debate clause of the constitution fobids congressman from being questioned on anything said on the floor, so that one is out!

I guess, in theory, we can always vote them out.

We need to start by getting rid of the lobbyists. They are not there for OUR best interest. We didn't vote THEM in so why are they so powerful in deciding our fate?

I am with you, there should be a law that they should be responsible about giving the public accurate information to the best of their knowledge.

As it is now, they can lie with no repercussions, just like that lawsuit that Fox News won that they are allowed to lie, to their hearts content, to the public.

Is it a lie to tell Congress and The American People that Saddam Hussein had WMD?

For this we are embroiled in an unjust war with a country that had absolutely nothing to do with 9/11--and we are having a very difficult time extricating ourselves without looking weak to the extreme RW in the GOP, and with the rest of the world.

We are paying dearly for it, too. We sent our troops in harms way with the most shoddy and inferior equipment in our Nation's history.

We have lost over 4,200 (and counting) troops. We have tens of thousands of our troops with horrific wounds. These folks have come home to a health care system that cannot take care of them.

We are spending $10 Billion dollars a month to occupy a country that doesn't even want us there.

All of this is based on the premise that Saddam Hussein posed an eminent threat to our Nation's safety and security.

I repeat, was this a lie, or Not?

Just My Humble Opinion.

Direct Quotes cannot be disputed, the writer is a brave genious and has finally brought 10 lies out into the public . This will not go over well with Obama supporters but it's reality. I'm very disappointed as I was hoping we'd finally have an honest President but once again this is not the case. Promises and lies were made to get elected. However I think the biggest lies were omitted from the list and those would be fixing the economy and creating/saving jobs. This was a mandate from the people and it has not been done.

ITA - no matter how vehemently this information is protested and talking points repeated over and over, they cannot argue with quotes.

The author forgot to mention the biggest one, to me, which was regarding tax cuts for Seniors. Watching how Obama appears to be following quite a few of the Bush policies, the supporters should brace themselves for more disappointment.

Obama’s latest act of dictatorial thuggery is just more proof that his slick anti-war campaign rhetoric was all a big lie. Obama is attempting to block the release of new torture photos from Abu Ghraib:

We get a lot of misleading articles written by people who do not understand, nor approve of Obama.
Just what is it here that we don't understand. That is an unreasonable statement when talking about this article.

Did he just change his mind on these issues? That would be more reasonable.

If I am misunderstanding President Obama, please tell me where I am going wrong in relation to this article. I am open minded enough to listen to your views and discuss them.

Did Obama think that we would not notice the promise to Seniors being revoked? Does Obama think that we are all so infatuated with him that we would not care about lies or broken promises? he's got another thing coming.

That's an interesting link, how both parties try to get the religious vote in this country. Votes were cast last Nov., Obama won the religious vote, now it's time to be truthful and credible to those voters. Religious voters aren't very appreciative of being lied to.

What part did Obama have in revoking what? Your taxes, as seniors, will be lower, just as with wage earners. You have to remember, you report and pay taxes on THIS year NEXT year, currently, THIS year, you reported taxes on last year's income under Bush.
Millions of people were working when Bush was President those who have no job now won't be paying taxes, so those who have jobs will be picking up the slack and paying for Obama's increased taxes.

You pay taxes on unemployment benefits.

And just for the record it takes more than 4 months to cause the problems that led to 8 million being unemployed now.

Come back and whine in 2 years if things haven't gotten better.

You people are Hilarious.

obama promised to eliminate income taxes on seniors with income under $50k... so far, he hasn't proposed that tax change... none of us know if he will for next year or 2011, '12 ... i guess his promise isn't Technically a lie because there's time left... the Pesky Fact that he hasn't done anything puts it in the li [with the 'e' to come] category for me.

Well said and thanks for stating the specifics, beat! I was running out and couldn't take the time.

To me, this was the biggest one - imagine how many seniors were counting on this - and here is the administration and its supporters, dealing in "word salads!"

You make an excellent point here, Truberry, about the voters. This kind of smoke and mirrors can only go on for so long before people want to see something actually happen.

Time will (further) tell. :read:

IF one can find a Bank that will give a loan out, so many people are losing jobs, it's very risky for Banks to give out loans now.

I read the article and didn't see any lies. Just an opinion of statements made?

Anyway, we both got our senior $250 in direct deposit on the reg. SS# day, for us the 3rd Wednesday of the month. Depending on when your birthday is, there are different "pay days." And his promise of no taxes for seniors earning under $50,000, well, that comes when Bush's tax cuts for the rich expires in 2011 or 2010, I forget which year it is.

How can it be a lie about going through Dept. budgets line by line to find waste or inefficiency? He's alreay doing that. And annouced several weeks ago where they've found money or prioritzed, he directed every agency and Dept. to find savings. The writer made a snide remark like "doesn' he realize he doesn't have a line item veto." Guess the writer doesn't realize a line item veto refers to bills passed ready for signing. Nothing to do with overseeing Dept. and direting heads to run things more efficiently.

Oh well, the titles catchy.... but I saw no "proof." Most things the writer asserts are in progress anyway, or scheduled to happen.

And to get that $250, you had to file a tax return? And to get more in your paycheck, ($15) a week, you have to have a pay check in which you have taxes withheld. We got both: the $250 and the $15 more a week in the paycheck in which taxes are witheld every month.

They don't for most people, but the promises and government handouts are buying votes, I mean supporting people.

There's a difference between lying and reversing a decision based on further examination of the issues and advice from his military leaders:

The demand for the photos release had come from the American Civil Liberties Union, which won a lawsuit under the Freedom of Information Act in Sept 2008.

But in a report filed against that motion on Thursday, Gen David Petraeus, who oversees military operations in the Middle East and Central Asia, said: “The official release of those images, even if redacted to obscure identifying information could reasonably be expected to adversely impact current military, political and civil efforts.”

http://www.thenational.ae/article/20090530/FOREIGN/705299817/1002

Well, I still feel like they should be released, but, I can understand why the president would listen to his generals. Not releasing the photos has nothing to do with anyone lying from what I can see. IMO
