My initial gut instinct agrees with your initial gut instinct. I remember when Charles Manson insisted on representing himself, although the court revoked permission for continued self-representation because Manson behaved badly (what a surprise) and appointed defense lawyers for him over his objection. Similarly, Ted Bundy insisted on representing himself but at least he was a college graduate and had even attended law school briefly.

However, I would note two important facts: First, both of those defendants were convicted and sentenced to death. The reason Charles Manson was not executed is because California's death penalty at the time was overturned by the California Supreme Court in an unrelated decision and all of the death row inmates' sentences were commuted to life imprisonment. Second, I do not believe there was the same statutory Qualified Death Penalty Attorney requirement that Florida currently has. A criminal defendant can waive their constitutional right to counsel just like they can waive their right to a jury trial, but the Florida criminal procedure statutes might still require appointment of a death penalty qualified attorney in a death penalty case.

Too bad we don't seem to have any Florida-licensed attorneys posting on this board.

Good point ML. If this had happened where I worked, state or federal, (and it did all too often), the civilian would have been escorted out with haste. Des - the only reason I could possibly disagree with you ( because honestly it makes sense ) is that she couldn't remember to associate the day she murdered Caylee with Father's Day and got the dates wrong. Even the most clever of liars can't rise above their intelligence level it seems :)

IMO, Shirley Plesea, Cindy's mother, had a daughter/mother talk about Casey and her shenanigans while enjoying a bowl of Cindy's favorite chili after the nursing home visit. I figure Cindy was pretty riled up by the time she got home and Casey got an earful as soon as she walked in the door.

I think Casey, Cindy and George knew the last time they saw Caylee was on June 15. They did not want LE ask them any questions about the events of that day and that is why they came up with the June 8 date. It probably would have worked too except LE found that darn video on the internet. Another one of those oooops moments imo. This family wanted to stay way clear of June 15.

I met this man yesterday, our business has nothing to do with Bailbonds or anything like that. I asked his occupation as small talk. I tried to act non- chalant (sp) so he would not embelish what he told me.
I do know he has been a bailbondsman/bounty hunter for over 15 years.
He has 10 offices throughout orlando.
He did tell me that he has never seen so many crazy players and so much publicity on a case.
I believe him, but if I was another poster I wouldnt know. I thought for a while about posting this stuff and figured it may not be believed. I am waiting for the tape of Casey to be released, if and when it does.

Well I"M back and a little dissapointed. I couldn't take notes, but ill do the best I can. the bounty hunter/bailbondsman info is as follows:
He has an office in St. Cloud. His secretary Dottie is really good friends with Baez's ex secretary.(hence the EX) She told bondsman that I met, that indeed Casey and baez were having sex. (those 8 hr days in his office) Baez secretary quit because of this.
If the case starts to go bad at trial Casey will reveal this. Witnesses will come forward with this info.
Baez is stuck. Casey managed to get him where she wants.
The release of video of Casey when the body of Caylee was located shows Baez with his hand on Caseys backside, his hand looks like it was in her pants in the back, because women have a top & bottom instead of a jumpsuit.When he put his hand on her back thats what hapened.
He does not want this released. Its not Casey hyperventilating that worries him.
He got Casey as a client because attys show up at the jail to try to get clients.
the jail guards inform the inmate; do not to take the first one. Take an atty that you feel will defend you to the best of their ability.
The first atty was an older man and Casey didnt like him.
the second atty was a woman and when she spoke with Casey she was appauled, it came down to morals as she felt Casey was guilty.
The third was Baez and he knew what to say and acted like he cared. Thats who Casey chose, it was HER choice.
He would not tell me who the old couple is that sends the A's money, but did say it was not Melanie Reiger (sp) group.
side note: it is this bondsmans opinion that TonE Lazzaro knew Caylee was dead. I asked him why he thought this; he said they were together 24/7 for that period of time. I disagreed with him on that.
He also told me LP never for a second thought casey would talk when he bonded her out. PUBLICITY only. He knows Lenny personally.

Even in my usually suspicious and dirty mind, it didn't occur to me that the tape would find Our Boy Jose with his hands down her pants!

My hope is that Casey is convicted and regardless of whether she gets the DP or LWOP we never hear from her again. But I can't help but feel that CA & GA will never let this be over. They will be seeking a means of living. And keeping this case in the public eye and controversial will keep money rolling in. Eventually, I would guess that the $5k a month donors will expect this family to get a life and they will stop sending them money.

I Know I Know.

I was just wondering outloud to hubby yesterday on what would be bad enough that a sitting judge in one of his cases would go to the State Bar and file a complaint against the lead (at that time) defense lawyers representing the person on trial. And this came out. Jumpin' jehosafats. The info from the bounty hunter would certainly do it! I think Baez is in a world of trouble and it couldn't happen to a nicer guy. :sneaky: What an idiot he is to do that.

I'm sure the judge will... But Baez shouldn't have asked for an unlimited amount of information in the first place! That is the reason that Kronk and the rest are fighting Baez! It's not that they are "hiding something" it's that Baez is asking for way too much for his fishing expedition.
Hi Ana! I've been reading the posts about Kronk ... for those of you who believe Kronk is innocent in all of this, ITA. I think if he HAD gotten a solid tip that Caylee was there, he would have pursued it and not given up searching for months ... to me it just doesn't make sense that he had prior inside info about where Caylee was ... JMO
I don't blame him either for not turning over all of his cell phone records, look what they've done so far to discredit him ... the defense will drag out anyone's dirty laundry to discredit or implicate anyone ... given what we have all seen play out in the press, I for one wouldn't be turning over ANY personal info that could somehow be twisted to suit the defense's underhanded tactics ...

That was my thinking also ... this would have occurred AFTER he was cautioned about touching by the jail personnel ... so I'm doubting it happened and nothing was said about it or a more formal complaint was NOT filed by the jail ... JMO

Well I"M back and a little dissapointed. I couldn't take notes, but ill do the best I can. the bounty hunter/bailbondsman info is as follows:
He has an office in St. Cloud. His secretary Dottie is really good friends with Baez's ex secretary.(hence the EX) She told bondsman that I met, that indeed Casey and baez were having sex. (those 8 hr days in his office) Baez secretary quit because of this.
If the case starts to go bad at trial Casey will reveal this. Witnesses will come forward with this info.
Baez is stuck. Casey managed to get him where she wants.
The release of video of Casey when the body of Caylee was located shows Baez with his hand on Caseys backside, his hand looks like it was in her pants in the back, because women have a top & bottom instead of a jumpsuit.When he put his hand on her back thats what hapened.
He does not want this released. Its not Casey hyperventilating that worries him.
He got Casey as a client because attys show up at the jail to try to get clients.
the jail guards inform the inmate; do not to take the first one. Take an atty that you feel will defend you to the best of their ability.
The first atty was an older man and Casey didnt like him.
the second atty was a woman and when she spoke with Casey she was appauled, it came down to morals as she felt Casey was guilty.
The third was Baez and he knew what to say and acted like he cared. Thats who Casey chose, it was HER choice.
He would not tell me who the old couple is that sends the A's money, but did say it was not Melanie Reiger (sp) group.
side note: it is this bondsmans opinion that TonE Lazzaro knew Caylee was dead. I asked him why he thought this; he said they were together 24/7 for that period of time. I disagreed with him on that.
He also told me LP never for a second thought casey would talk when he bonded her out. PUBLICITY only. He knows Lenny personally.

I met this man yesterday, our business has nothing to do with Bailbonds or anything like that. I asked his occupation as small talk. I tried to act non- chalant (sp) so he would not embelish what he told me.

I think it was assumed due to the presumably volatile situation on Hopespring, what with C&G trying to locate Caylee and Casey being of absolutely no help ... and knowing of the problems between CinA and CA ... and also of GA's anger at CA early on ... that Jose was providing Casey with a hideout, more or less. I think it was also assumed Jose didn't want Casey *sharing* with her family, either, so he kept her occupied for several hours each day. But no matter how you slice it and whatever his reasons might have been, it was just damned inappropriate. imo

And then when she was locked up, he made the late nite visits to see her. When questioned about them by the media, he smirked and almost acted like he was "caught in the act." Ugh. Entirely inappropriate. And so difficult to believe that I think many of us decided our eyes, ears and guts were deceiving us.

IIRC, the OC was on home confinement, complete with ankle bracelet, and the only places she could visit were, like, work (lol), church, the jail to meet with her home confinement officer, and her attorney's office. They filed her schedule with the jail each week, and from jump, she was spending 6-8 hours every weekday in Baez's offices.

Edited to add: Among Baez's many blunders in this case, he's also doing his bit to poison any reverence people like me might have for "attorney client privilege." Please! What a joke where THIS attorney and THIS client are concerned. I couldn't care less whether they have privacy or not. To do what? Giggle and make eyes at one another and share a licorice? Ugh.

Well I"M back and a little dissapointed. I couldn't take notes, but ill do the best I can. the bounty hunter/bailbondsman info is as follows:
He has an office in St. Cloud. His secretary Dottie is really good friends with Baez's ex secretary.(hence the EX) She told bondsman that I met, that indeed Casey and baez were having sex. (those 8 hr days in his office) Baez secretary quit because of this.
If the case starts to go bad at trial Casey will reveal this. Witnesses will come forward with this info.
Baez is stuck. Casey managed to get him where she wants.
The release of video of Casey when the body of Caylee was located shows Baez with his hand on Caseys backside, his hand looks like it was in her pants in the back, because women have a top & bottom instead of a jumpsuit.When he put his hand on her back thats what hapened.
He does not want this released. Its not Casey hyperventilating that worries him.
He got Casey as a client because attys show up at the jail to try to get clients.
the jail guards inform the inmate; do not to take the first one. Take an atty that you feel will defend you to the best of their ability.
The first atty was an older man and Casey didnt like him.
the second atty was a woman and when she spoke with Casey she was appauled, it came down to morals as she felt Casey was guilty.
The third was Baez and he knew what to say and acted like he cared. Thats who Casey chose, it was HER choice.
He would not tell me who the old couple is that sends the A's money, but did say it was not Melanie Reiger (sp) group.
side note: it is this bondsmans opinion that TonE Lazzaro knew Caylee was dead. I asked him why he thought this; he said they were together 24/7 for that period of time. I disagreed with him on that.
He also told me LP never for a second thought casey would talk when he bonded her out. PUBLICITY only. He knows Lenny personally.

Yep, pretty simple remedy if Cindy cared to act on it to protect Caylee. Report her car stolen and advise her daughter left in a rage with her 2 yr. old in tow, (to push the importance of needing to rush to find car and occupants), and cut off casey's cell phone. Oh, and close credit card accounts or report the cards as stolen. Sure makes ya wonder what casey is holding over George and Cindy's heads.

Don't a lot of prisoners do that, study law books while in jail? I always read that. (What else is there to do? Read law books or change religions. It seems those two are the most common things I see mentioned regarding what a person does while incarcerated.)

Actually some prisoners are qualified to become lawyers, they have won many rights like tv's and music in their cells, better food. I believe Casey would have a better chance with a prisoner over Baez.

So Baez started pitching his fit about the video in early March, and Judge Strickland's identity was revealed as one of the filer's of a complaint against Baez in early April.

Lord knows there are probably a million different reasons for the judge to file a complaint against Jose, but the timing with the video is interesting ... yes? I think Judge S. has been unnecessarily patient and kind with Baez, and I wouldn't expect him to file a complaint with the bar for just any old reason. Just have to wonder if His Honor didn't view the video tape and it did indeed reveal what Peter's bounty hunter friend alluded to.

We have to take this one step at a time. Casey better have proof. Just the allegations alone will stir things up, but without proof he's going to claim she is just getting even. If she saved some dna he's screwed. As far as it being cause for appellate review it depends on what role he played in the trial. Being second chair I think he would get fined, but it's tricky if it can be cause for a mistrial, or for an appeal.

IIRC, the OC was on home confinement, complete with ankle bracelet, and the only places she could visit were, like, work (lol), church, the jail to meet with her home confinement officer, and her attorney's office. They filed her schedule with the jail each week, and from jump, she was spending 6-8 hours every weekday in Baez's offices.

Edited to add: Among Baez's many blunders in this case, he's also doing his bit to poison any reverence people like me might have for "attorney client privilege." Please! What a joke where THIS attorney and THIS client are concerned. I couldn't care less whether they have privacy or not. To do what? Giggle and make eyes at one another and share a licorice? Ugh.

I suspect the only restriction was "during normal business hours". No court would place any limitations on the amount of time she spent with her attorney beyond this. The amount of time it takes in a case depends upon the stage in the proceedings. Initially the meetings are longer then they taper off to increase right before and during trial. JMO

They will do an investigation and if it is found to have merit, then the judge can take appropriate action. The bar committee's work is confidential. A defendant, known drug gang member, was on trial for murder when he began a relationship with one of the jurors, Gillian Guess.

I agree if he wanted fame and fortune why would he risk leaving the body there for someone else to find? He had a hunch and even though Cain dissed him he kept thinking about it and followed up.
