It's about time and a much needed focus on who is rightfully in our country and those who insist on breaking our laws:

I hope this has an impact on illegals who flaunt their "untouchable" status. Hopefully this will be the beginning of the end of that.

It is good to read that the Obama Administration is continuing--and expanding--a program that was started by former President Bush.

Drew Peterson, or any murderer, is prosecuted by police, with a great deal of effort and vigor, with an effort to 'deport' them to jail for life. However, just because a murderer is scum, doesn't mean we should ignore other crimes, like illegal immigration. Just because one criminal manages to delay or even evade justice doesn't mean we should ignore all other crimes.

Yes, it's long past time to enforce our laws, not let them be ignored just because the problem is big enough to be tough.

Illegals take jobs from our citizens, take the starter jobs that help struggling families, teens just starting out get into the workplace -then take the jobs those starter jobs grow into - we pay unemployment to our citizens idled by these illegals, we lose tax revenue as the competition cuts the salaries of blue-collar workers, unethical companies that hire illegally are rewarded, ethical companies lose out. Illegals are unscreened - so there are plenty of them that are criminals hiding out from the police in their home country. The police have to deal with them, the children they have fill our schools and cripple them, the costs to our states are enourmous.

No way an "illegal" can take anyone's job.. Education is free and available in this nation.
If anyone takes your job, it is because you are on the same level which is your choice.
Personally, I would never be threatened by someone coming here to make beds or break their back picking fruit all day in the blazing sun.Education is not free - it costs us plenty of tax dollars that were intended to educate OUR children, not the children of anyone who breaks our laws.

An illegal is indeed taking someone's job - the jobs, the companies, are for citizens and legal workers. They are taking the job illegally. If the company wishes to have the benefits of being in the USA, with the wages of being in a 3rd world country, tough luck - they have to choose - locate there or here. Nor is it equal competition when a citizen who has to pay American rates for medical care, lodging, and expects a legal wage competes against an illegal the employer might pay under the table, can pay a much lower wage, and knows will not report any workplace safety violations or unpaid overtime demands. That is not someone on the same level.

Those jobs are valuable jobs to the people who need them - your apparent contempt for those types of workers aside. A woman who has just left an abusive husband will often take on maid work to make a living, make a new start. Picking fruit all day - used to be a way teens got their start, jobs for others who needed work and had little qualifications - a way for a convict to reenter the working world, etc. Not everyone has or wants a college education.

However - that's not the only jobs illegals are taking. Take meatpacking for instance. Used to be a blue-collar job that supported many a family on a decent wage their entire life. Now, it's mostly illegals, wages have dropped like a stone, and since illegals cannot report unsafe working conditions, accidents, contamination are greatly increased.

Breaking our laws? You mean like the Drew Petersons of the world who are here legally and murder their own families?

So...Drew Peterson is a more desirable neighbor than someone who comes here 'illegally' to Protect and Provide for their family?

Thank goodness I do not comprehend that type of thinking.

Live and Let Live. Love Thy Neighbor.

enforce the laws, illegals get the same pay as non-illegals, same health care, same everything, then employers will stop hiring illegals and illegals will want to get legal - why would a employer risk breaking the law when it is not profitable for them? America is our home, we don't mind guests, we just don't want uninvited guests, please register at the door

It isn't important who gets the credit - it just has to be done.

Yes, just illegal aliens. The key word there being illegal, meaning they are breaking the law. Like a man that robs a store or one that drives down the wrong side of the street. If a man walks into your house without asking or being invited, do you assume he just has the right to be there and you have no right to ask him to leave? Why is it so wrong to expect people that come here to follow our laws like so many others have done that have been welcomed to this country?

Oh really? I'm in Illinois and wasn't aware of any group of people coming here illegally that had a legitimate claim to this state.

I'm originally from Ohio and I always thought that was an Indian name. There is a rich Native American history all over this country. I recall the Mound Builders in the midwest but I honestly don't recall history involving Mexicans in that area. I don't believe I'm mistaken. White settlers (in many cases) drove out Native Americans but Mexicans? No, I don't believe I've heard about Mexicans being driven out.

Nope (just remembering) the Dutch bought Long Island from Indians - not Mexicans.

I guess it's time I ask SusannaSays for a link. I think it would bolster her argument if she could provide some facts.

Ok, Mexican is the nationality, but you do realize a large portion of them are Native American right?

So glad his faith-based judgment didn't prevent it.
