I've been hearing recently that newspapers are in trouble.. could we be seeing more lay offs in the media sector?

re: [...could we be seeing more lay offs in the media sector?]

It's already happening. Radio media giant Clear Channel has laid of 590 of their employees.

They have also stopped matching 401Ks for the rest of their employees. This, however, will change if they meet 90% of their budgeting requirements for the rest of the year.

They started working on their "budget requirements" by inking Rush Limbaugh to an 8 year contract for only $400,000,000 last year.

I've been hearing more about newspapers being in trouble and laying off workers.. I don't know where these people will get jobs.. the job market is very scarce nowadays. I don't know if these journalists will want to build roads or bridges.

I think newspapers will survive despite their deficiencies.

I am a media junkie, and I'm wondering where you go for your daily dose of news stories.

I usually go to google news or yahoo, any better options?

Yes, those are good, me, too. I first scan my browser home page for AP headlines; then go to those sites, Susan mentioned. Also check HPost for opinions; also Politico.com, it's conservative. Then I read 2 daily newspapers. headlines, letters to the editor, and regional/state news. Some respected journalists I enjoy, are bookmarked, or I'm on their mailing list for latest column.
