Specter recently left the GOP to join the Dems, saying there was no room for him in the increasingly-conservative Republican Party. A survey by Public Opinion Strategies suggests that if the Republicans want to get that Senate seat back they'd better buck ideology and embrace former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge.

He switched parties because his own polling showed him to be 20 points behind his conservative rival and he would lose the primary. He's not about political ideology, he's about political survival.

This is it in a nutshell. As a Pennsylvanian, I will NOT be voting for him again.

Good and accurate post.. this is what I'm reading as well. I think this will backfire on Spector so maybe it's time for him to retire?

Joe Sestak is not ruling out challenging Specter in the primaries, and imo, Sestak is a much stronger and better choice for the dems.

I agree, Sestak would be a much better choice for the dems.
