Further information. Apparently her parents married in 2003 - I wonder if he's the biodad or the stepdad?
Bruises on her neck? That sounds suspicious.

Thank you for the link.
Suspicious about bruises. The link did say Dad. Possible abuse.

Being 2003 it would seem to be a stepdad right?
Her whole attitude would change when he came home... oh no.

They may indeed have married in 2003, and it's always possible that they divorced and remarried each other.
On HLN they said neighbours apparently heard the father yelling at the girl.
It sounds like there were some issues in that home. It still boggles my mind how 12 year olds can easily access guns.
It really bothers me when I hear of cases of children killing an adult in the home. Something must have set this girl off. I don't like it when I hear CPS found abuses unfounded. We all know how many times state workers have dismissed abuses cases only to have the child die or disappear later on.
Something is setting off our young members of society and just like in domestic violence the first place to be looking is within the home.
I am not condoning what the child allegedly did or that the father did anything to this girl. All I am saying is there possibly could be problems in the home.
I hope the police are able to figure this out.

I totally agree. My opinion is that not all or even most reports of abuse are true, HOWEVER when you have had reports of abuse that cps said were "unfounded" and then the child kills the father...i rather think CPS was wrong. I don't condone killing your parent but if they are abusing children, well i guess i think a medal is more appropriate than a trial.
Certainly my first thought is to support the child.
IMO

Or it could be they are the bio parents but never married until 2003 for whatever reason. One or the other may have been married @ the time the girl was born. Or, maybe they just didn't see the need to get married until 2003.
Or, it could be he is the bio-dad and the mom is a step mom.

Here's a newer article -

Why weren't the guns locked up? How many times does this kind of thing have to happen?? Such a sad story, especially since we've seen similar stories several times in the past 6 months.

I live not too far from where this happened - in the same city.
I am not going to speculate about whether he abused her - it is too early to tell. I do know that sometimes kids kill without being provoked whatsoever... we've seen cases like that on here many times.
She's under the age of 14, so she can't be tried as an adult in Texas. She will tried in juvie court. I really have no comment on it all - it's just really sad.

I would think that a parent would have difficulty ever wrapping their minds around the thought that their own children would murder them whether they had knives, baseball bats or guns in their homes.

And, some kids have a different perception of what "abuse" is--some see it as abuse if the parents don't let them go someplace they are wanting to go, don't give money for something they want to buy, etc. And, of course, there are some actual cases of abuse. Not to say that either was the case is this one, of course.
