Not sure if this has been discussed.....Shep is probably going to be moving to a new Network.....
He's been honest in the past....but this might be the final blow to his career on Fox. LOL
Shep Smith on torture and what it means to be an American (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEtFMj6ZiHM)
People seem to think that treaties are just something we brush aside when those treaties don't mean anything to the U.S. Of course history shows that the U.S. was behind the treaties signed to stop things like waterboarding......we were a driving force to stop actions by other countries to do that to any soldier.....
so why do we now want to ignore that history and use those same tactics.
I'd say the past Administration should look back and question their morals......since they seemed to question the morals of others......
I don't believe Iraq cast the first stone......yet the last Administration seem to forget about the Taliban and Afghanistan, and those people are gaining power even within Pakistan now........
LOL Of course some will say that just happened in the past two months......hmmmm....I think it had to do with not doing and finishing the job in the country that was actually a threat here........getting Bin Laden........
because the main policy was to go into Iraq....torturing those in Iraq and Afghanistan to legitimize the war in Iraq when it was nothing more than oil or revenge....making money for their friends.

I heard the clip and saw it somewhere on TV today. He really lost it on Fox. Good he was right to lose it.

Again......listen to this....
One of those attorneys is now a Federal Judge.
And that Judge didn't know when arguing the case....he didn't know if Thumb Screws or the Rack was torture.
OMFG.
Is Thumb Screws or the Rack torture? Is waterboarding? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbaB6YumiQc&feature=related)

We are dealing with a different type of people than we have ever dealt with before. These are the people that cut our soldiers heads off and video tape it. These are people that go into a holy shrine and blow up their own people. I saw a head line this morning where they killed 80 more of their own people. If the US is to get anywhere with these people they need to use drastic means. I have up till now though the war in Iraq was for a good cause but I am changing my mind. I don't think anything is going to change the actions of these people and maybe our man power would be better used just to keep them out of the US. We lost thousands on 911 and I think our being over there has stopped that. But we have lost almost as many over there just not in one day. These people are barbaric and worlds behind our civilization. IMO

Shepard Smith is a goner on FOX.
Why? Because he actually tells the truth. Others, hide behind the cloak of legally fabricating the news, as per our judicial court system rulings.
Sometimes, you have to use strong language when you are talking to people who are absolutely convinced that torture is The American Way of treating our fellow man.
I hope CNN picks him up. He is a fine moral and just person who is a very good news person.
JUST MY HUMBLE OPINION.

Following WWII Japanese soldiers were tried and hanged for using waterboarding on Americans. It remained a war crime until the Bush administration took office. Is it any wonder the rest of the world sees us as arrogant and acting as though we're above the law. It has been our leaders, not our country, that has encouraged and allowed these atrocities. It is our great country that now bears the shame of it.
Hey Sunshine, this is probably ot, but it relates to the subject of how the rest of the world sees us. It is a video with subtitiles from Danish television. It's a Danish chemist who studied the dust from 9/11 and found nano-thermite in it. This is a substance used in bombs. It is a very interesting interview. I hope all who come across this post watch it, (it is only 10 minutes and 31 seconds) because this is how the rest of the world sees 9/11. It is probably only Americans, who are not given this type of information in our msm, that still believe 9/11 was not a controlled event.

If the rest of the world thinks 9/11 was a controlled from the inside job, who do you think they percieve as the real "terroists?" Oh yeah, let's throw torture on that perception, too.

Looks like Shep may have had a cocktail for lunch. I love that guy. Fox would be fools to let him go.
I don't think he will lose his job - he has brought in great ratings in his time slot for a long time.
BUT, he did lose his cool and took a normally more journalistic program and put in too much personal commentary. His biggest mistake no matter what you think of him, Fox, or his opinions is that he dropped the"f" bomb on air. That could be a firing offense on it's own.
He should be reprimanded for that. That kind of language is unacceptable on air no matter what passion is behind it.
moo
i may be wron g but pretty sure that the F bomb part was webcast only, not aired on cable.
I love shep even when i disagree with him, because he is honest and fair. In this case he is dead right too. No way will fox fire him, he just signed an 8 million dollar per year 3 year contract at the end of 2007.

 Shep rocks!
How do we deal with people who behead, blow-up, and in general have no feelings about pulling off mass murder?
What is the answer?
We elect them.

I love Shep but i'm shocked he still has a job.
Same here. IMO, FOX, has come out of the closet regards their "fair and balanced" news reporting.
This is not true, but it is legal, as our judicial court system has sanctioned them fabricating their views. JMHO

You speak for yourself.
The majority of The American People consider torture to be an abomination of the natural rights of man as per our Declaration of Independence and Constitution.:patriot:

No, actually, it's been admitted by many, not just me. Ever been to SERE school? I have! You not calling it torture doesn't make it not so.

it's sad that fox viewers would be upset about fox being truthful to them, yet they say nothing when they lie to them?

These people are barbaric and worlds behind our civilization. IMOWe are the same people we ever were. It's not about who they are - it's about who we are. Are we the same as them? Or not. I believe not.
The people who commit atrocities are individuals - just like those American soldiers who have committed atrocities. You don't get to torture people just because others who look like them have committed atrocities. You don't get to torture, PERIOD. They've lost many more thousands than we have - innocent civilians in the wrong spot as we fight our battles. So, if you want to say you can torture if someone dies, they've got as good a claim as we have - if you go by rules of revenge and anger and killing a child because of what it's father did.
To me - that type of thought is barbaric and uncivilized.
We do not torture - not if we are civilized. We don't do it because the person we are torturing may have done nothing to us, we don't do it because it gives great propaganda advantages to them, to recruit even more to their side, because it makes their lies into truth, because torture doesn't work, because we don't exist to revenge our innocent with his head cut off by killing their innocent.
We've got quite a sickness running through our society, the idea that we can judge people by their skin color and language and religion, the idea that revenge is what we are all about, the idea that the rules and ethics and morals are just for when we aren't upset.

What is the answer? We deal with them as we deal with our own criminals who behead, blow up, and in general have no feelings about pulling off mass murder. Did we torture Jeffrey Dahlmer's family? Torture all those with the same religion as he had? Do we attack New York to get at the Zodiac killer, and figure any civilian losses, any torture, arrests we do there are OK to get at someone who doesn't mind mass murder? Do we lock all Militia members in a unregulated prison where we can torture them because of Oaklahoma City?
You go after those doing the terroristic acts. And you keep justice in mind - not revenge. If there's a supporting organization - you break it up if appropriate. No different than a street gang, other than location.

I find it ironic that the left has hated Fox all this time until someone on there started cheer leading for Obama.
