As sad as it is to see her funeral procession it is a sign that she is being laid to rest and her family can some how down the road see how many people from all over has fallen in love with this little girl..her final ride was a special ride just like a little princess

Pleasure, mom! :) Glad you did it.
Morning n/t ....and others who are around.
n/t I think you made a valid point at the end of the last thread about cases which may have gone unsolved because LE weren't really 'expecting' a woman to be involved.

I really don't like even talking about MLH today but I do have a question if we have anyone that is in the medical field how in the heck can you swallow 3 blades and not die from it..I have never heard of anyone doing this I mean blades and suicide usually mean cut your wrist not swallow them that seems so odd..

I just listened to the report and it said her classmate were there,..I am not sure how these kids were able to be there and not be even more scared I heard they were having nightmares and just not sure if it was the best thing..but maybe it is some sort of closure for them,..I remember going to 2 funerals when I was in 2 and 3rd grade one classmate was mulled by dogs she was my best friend then a year later another one was hit by a car in front of a skating rink I was standing out there and went to her funeral to this day I can not get it out of my head I remember everything..maybe it is just me but I never allowed my kids to go to funerals until they were older..I have not even been able to go to any without having anxiety attacks..

MOM...I love the way you wrote *her final ride was a special ride just like a little princess.* How beautiful..
The Final Ride.I got that from a Heidi a 16yr old who was killed by a drunk driver she always wanted to ride in a hummer so her mom ask the funeral director and he took his seats out and her final ride was in the hummer..and we called it her Final Ride...:crying:
and Sandra when I saw that thought what a wonderful way for her to have her final ride on a carriage just like a little princess her family did a wonderful job for her and I hope they will see one day how many people have cried for them and for Sandra

In other developments, just days before her arrest, Huckaby allegedly attempted to commit suicide by swallowing X-Acto knives. While Huckaby reportedly denies the claim she remains behind bars on suicide watch.

GRACE: She swallows not one, not two, but three X-Acto blades?
Dr. Marty Makary, why didn`t it work?
DR. MARTY MAKARY, PHYSICIAN, PROF. OF PUBLIC HEALTH, JOHNS HOPKINS: Well, actually, most people are surprised, they often are not fatal. And it`s actually common.
GRACE: Well, I`ve never even heard of swallowing an X-Acto knife. Those are the blades that you slice for a precise cut -- yes, there it is. OK. Well, which one is it? Which one, Rosie, is the one that she swallowed? The one in the middle? The one on the left.
Whoa. Hold on. Makary, she swallowed three of the ones on the left and she lived to tell the tale?
MAKARY: Oftentimes the body has a way of sort of entrapping the knives and they can pass through with only some bleeding. Most people live, and it`s a way a lot of people, especially prisoners, get a lot of attention as they try to get out of the situation that they`re in.

I am still in shock over it..she went in the same night Sandra's mom was told it was her body right? that is what I heard cause they had 2 or 3 ambulances and one was for her..I would wonder how in the heck it would not cut your throat and everything as it went into your stomach..guess it can be done since she did it...so odd imo..then to hear she had ulcers and digestive problems from her family I am sure they knew why she was in there just did not want to say why..I knew it had to be more since they had someone sitting outside her door at the ICU. I am not so sure they thought it was her at the time I think maybe they thought she was so upset since Sandra was there all the time...This one has really got me went and looked at mine and no way would I swallow one let alone 3...
she was in there from late Monday/Tuesday to thursday and talking to media right away..not a smart cookie imo

Well, it's been suggested by some that Melissa didn't really want to commit suicide, but just to use it for another reason (whatever that may be....attention, as a distraction ..or..who knows).
If that was the case, then she'd want a little damage inside, but not life-threatening damage, I'd imagine.

Organizers have prepared for as many as 8,000 guests, but there’s only enough parking for 500 cars.
The public service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday at the West High School gym, 1775 W. Lowell Ave.
omg 8,000 people this little girl has touched so many not only those in Tracy all over America..

I have really worried so much about Sandra's mother but just reading that she is doing OK right now makes me feel a little better..since I saw her on GMA I have worried to death about her..I know she wants her baby back but at least she is holding up at this time..
a much smaller collection of relatives and classmates signed the girl's tiny pink casket before it was buried at a private funeral service.
"It was sorrowful, but it was meaningful," said Tracy police Chaplain Don Higgins, who led Wednesday's service at Fry Memorial Chapel. "It was what the family desired, and I think that's what spoke to their hearts."
A somber gathering of about 170 family and friends watched videos of the bubbly second-grader. Relatives read poetry. A horse-drawn carriage carried Sandra's casket to the Tracy Mausoleum.
"The family was rock steady," said Tracy police Sgt. Tony Sheneman, who attended Wednesday's service:crying:

The timing of the blade swallowing is interesting. Maybe she thought that being ill would help her avoid intense scrutiny when the body was found? Perhaps she was jealous of the attention and ambulances for Sandra's mom and uncle or whoever the other relative was? Being sick is a classic way to avoid things and get sympathy, to change your status in the group. Perhaps she was also punishing herself but I'm inclined to think she was again trying to spin things in her inept way.
Kids at funerals: I think this really depends on the kid and how old they are. I vividly remember going to open casket funerals when I was a kid and even touching my grandparents' faces. It made me realize the finality of death and I appreciated being allowed to participate in the grief ritual instead of being marginalized because of my age. However I was a very curious and pragmatic child, and I resented adults the most when they were too lazy to explain difficult things to me. They had the excuse that I was too young or fragile to comprehend things but I didn't feel that way at all and instead searched out information on my own. I checked out books in the regular section of the library from the age of 10, having run through the children's section and sensed that a huge amount of information was being left out.
However, some kids aren't made this way. And the way Sandra died is so creepy. I never went to a funeral like hers and I don't know what sort of effect it would have had on me. But all the kids in that town are going to be affected by this crime and the stories built up around it anyway, so including them in a memorial of some sort is probably a good idea. If they can understand how devastating and abnormal Sandra's death is it may give them a perspective that won't simply make them terrified of all adults and going out in the world. But its still so creepy that life is going to be weird in that area for a long long time.

Respectfully snipped to comment on certain points.
I felt the same way about Sandra's Mum when I saw her on GMA. I only got to watch that today. She was so broken-up, she couldn't talk and was having problems breathing steadily, even. :(
Poor, poor lady....

Pleasure, mom! :) Glad you did it.
Morning n/t ....and others who are around.
n/t I think you made a valid point at the end of the last thread about cases which may have gone unsolved because LE weren't really 'expecting' a woman to be involved.
It is interesting that even on the message boards posters are looking for the accomplice. Some cannot comprehend that a woman could do this alone. And in my opinion the jury will give a lesser sentence because she is a woman.
We (media, LE, posters) need to understand and accept that women can be as evil as men. We are so much more apt to trust women around our children. We see a strange man talking to a child and immediately we become suspicious , yet if it is a woman we consider her compassionate or just frendly.

Perhaps I am not reading all I should but do have a couple of questions:
Was this an attempt to swallow the blades or did she actually swallow them & what size were they if she completed the act?
I would like to see an official report to substantiate that she actually did swallow them & how she was treated at the hospital. Probably won't cause of privacy issues.

For me, I have taken my children to funeral homes since they were in my arms. I wanted them to not fear death.
This is such a person choice. My son's paternal grandfather died when he was 7. Only grandchild and he and his grandfather were extreemly close(in other words grandaddy spoiled him) My husbands family is very open about death and Mother in law simply stated he would be there. I was not sure , but after much discussion we decided to take him. I am glad we did. He touched his grandfather, took a picture of them together to put in coffin, kissed him and talked about where he was now. I believe it was the right thing to do, but agree that it would not be the right thing for others. Each child and family is different, this was right for us but could have been a disaster for others.

Maureen notes that Martinez is not the only one at the park hoping to make their home safer. Two other residents have asked the handyman about getting cameras on their homes.
Martinez also says he just built a fence around one home and recently spoke to a woman who wants to install a framed security door.

Well, it's been suggested by some that Melissa didn't really want to commit suicide, but just to use it for another reason (whatever that may be....attention, as a distraction ..or..who knows).

This is the first I ever heard her father told anyone she may have tried to harm herself and was did everything to plea for police to come get her??OK anyone else hear this
Huckaby’s father told me she had bouts of depression and difficulty dealing with her divorce. He said he was concerned that she may have tried to hurt herself in the days after Sandra went missing, because she was briefly hospitalized, as she has been often in recent years. Once she was released, she did everything but plea for police to come get her, and was soon arrested.
First, Huckaby gave a 40-minute phone interview to a young reporter at the Tracy Press, explaining that she was partial to the local paper. She admitted that the rolling suitcase was hers, said it had been stolen. When television reporters soon came calling, she claimed to have found a cryptic note from the killer. Driving her Kia toward the police station hours later, she smiled and waved

It is astonishing what men will do for a pretty face. I to have grown children, but I also have a grandchild. He and I travel a lot together. http://www.huliq.com/3257/79754/melissa-huckaby-attempted-suicide-prior-arrest-report
The report, broadcast on SF Bay Area local radio station KCBS, indicated that Melissa Huckaby, 28, was hospitalized after swallowing three X-Acto knife blades mere days before her arrest in the Sandra Cantu case.
During the period before that date, it is expected that Huckaby will have a psychiatric examination, in a likely attempt to bolster a possible insanity defense. That defense may not hold much water, however.
Dr. Michael Welner, a forensic psychiatrist and chairman of The Forensic Panel, told CBS News:
"This is a suspect who made numerous efforts to cover up her previous remarks and those are the kind of things that make an insanity plea harder. She had communication with media and other people that was rational to them. That may get in the way of some of what she's doing."

I had a patient who swallowed razor blades before. Coincidently, he also was a self-mutilator.....cut himself everywhere (and I DO mean everywhere). He was sexually abused by a male relative.
You can get the razor blades out with an endoscope. It is a flexible tube with a camera. It has a cage and/or "pinchers" on the end that can grab things. If there are bleeding areas, they can be cauterized to stop the bleeding. It goes down the mouth into the stomach.

No problem I just knew the family would get that since they do that at a lot of funeral homes these days..I left mine yesterday I think...and sent out cards a few days ago..just letting them know I was thinking of them they have a long hard road to go down..with a trial omg kinda wish she would plea to save them a plea.that pain..but wont happen I am sure..jmoI also hope for a plea cause I hate for Sandra's mom to sit through a trial..OMG..I don't know how so many victims families go through the trial and all the info that comes out in court....especially if this one goes to court..I know I would not suvive it..I am not that strong..

I completely agree..we never think a woman..especially a woman with children could be capable of such a horrific crime. Remember the teacher that was caught with the student? Not the one that had a child with but the one that the attorney told the judge his client was TOO Pretty to spend time in jail..so I believe they gave her probation instead of jail time.. IF that would have been a man he would have been under the jail..so I see a big difference. There have been other cases as well. I am so glad my children are grown but I do have several *young* grandkids and I worry myself sick over them. Heckk the way it is now days I don't if ppl can even trust their next door neighbors. kwim?
Yep, there are a lot of sick people out there. I read that it is something like 4% of rapes and molestation are done by women.
I heard a blip on HLN the other day that this rape on Sandra was done after she was already dead... small comfort, I know.
I still think MH did not do this alone, and she did not intend to kill her. Just a feeling I have.
The older I get, the more amazed I am at the things that go on these days.

Well this woman is someones neighbor. And yes, if it were a man it would have been handled differently. I do remember the "too pretty to serve time in jail" case. It is astonishing what men will do for a pretty face. I to have grown children, but I also have a grandchild. He and I travel a lot together. I hate when we go to restrooms (he is to old to go into the womens) I stand outside the mens room door and if he takes to long, I have gone inside to get him. I know I embarrass him, but he takes it well. He knows his granny is nuts.been there and done that nc. My GS is 9yo and its right at that age...but he knows..what can/does happen so he is good about going to restroom w/one of us standing outside the door.lol..A grandmas gotta do what a grandmas gotta do..lol

I hadn't thought about using an edoscope...I've learned something today..
thanks..

I am wondering if she did not have all those doctor bills for a reason other than ulcers..I have them not bleeding ones..but I have heard she had digestive problems, ulcers and then she said internal bleeding so who do we believe. It was reported she also had allergies I think..and her child was sickly did not hear why that was reported..I am not so sure she wanted to end her life either but that is just me and MOI heard last night on HLN that was baby was a premie.

Self-mutilators are so scary and also often downright crazy with a more pervasive diagnosis. I worked as a psych nurse for awhile and it does seem to be pretty common, especially with young women. It even seems to be somewhat chic nowadays, as part of the recent "emo" fashion craze. I think the rising number for self mutilation also reflects a high level of stress and confusion among young women.
One 14 year old girl had to be completely restrained when she got agitated to prevent her from gouging the inside of her vagina with her fingernails and anything else she could get her hands on.
Another girl had to be watched carefully while she went to the bathroom, stall door open, because she would stick any old thing she could get her hands on up herself.
Another girl got a "friend" to sew things into a teddy bear she brought during a visit- razor blades, Exlax, pills. These girls would be on CS (Constant Supervision) but were so determined and sneaky that it was hard to keep them safe even then. The teddy bear girl once managed to cut her arm with two staff within arms length. She snatched the plastic top off of a can of hair gel and slashed her forearm with it in a split second.
Another young woman became very well behaved and eventually got her supervision reduced to every 15 minutes checks. After a few hours she broke a window in her room with a garbage can and used a piece of glass to cut herself and came out of her room with a piece of broken glass held high in triumph. This was quite a feat with the chicken wire over the window glass.
All these antics seem sort of ridiculous but people do them anyway, acting out some sort of anger or distress. They also sometimes enjoy the excitement and attention and emotional responses from the staff and other patients. It often feels like they're trying to pull you into a dysfunctional relationship, trying to make you feel like the bad parent who can never measure up, and trying to get full control of the situation at all costs. They do this push-pull thing with you, chafing at any limits or rules, but then forcing you to come in and take control. Its like they've never gotten past being an extra-difficult adolescent.
This experience makes me understand why perps show up in jail with cuffs and shackles. They might be waiting for the perfect moment to lash out or run and have some contraband or other on their person. They have nothing else to focus on apparently.

Lunchlady, what a job. I'm starting to think if some people are so determined, so mentally/emotionally distraught to do this over and over, perhaps it's best to let them do it/end their life.
I do feel that most self mutilators were probably abused.

okay found what Melissa and her grandmother HAD said early on
Huckaby then set the packed suitcase on the driveway by her dark purple Kia SUV — the same one FBI agents and Tracy police detectives towed and searched Tuesday night. But she forgot her cell phone and keys inside the house, so she went back in for about 15 minutes to find them. She couldn’t, so she picked up the spare key and left.
She forgot about the suitcase and left it on the driveway.
When she got to the church, Huckaby’s grandmother called and said she found her keys and cell phone. Huckaby said that’s when she realized she had left the $200 suitcase outside. When her family went out to get it, they said it was gone

well this is just a report of what MELISSA AND THE GRANDMOTHER said. It does not mean that is what really happened.
what if they were in the suitcase?
hmmm also think about this... where was Sandra at this point. grandmother is helping look for the keys? if Sandra were killed at the church then sandra was NOT sitting out there in the suitcase in the driveway. so was sandra at the house right before Melissa left or during that 15 minutes she is looking for her keys at the house? And why didn't grandma see Sandra if she was there?
So between leaving the lawless mobile and getting to the church, when does Melissa "pick up" Sandra? and where? or is Sandra already at the church? she can't be in the suitcase if she were killed at the church.
another thing, how can you not find the cell phone if it is in the mobile. you just call the number and it rings DUH... and they obviously have another phone in the mobile to use to call it, as the grandmother used it to call sandra at the church.

$26,000 in debts seems reasonable, especially when $17,000 of it is in medical bills. It would be interesting to know what the medical bills were for, though. And I also wonder if there was any medical insurance. If that is just her share after any insurance, it is pretty high.

" In 2002, she worked as a cashier at a grocery store near the mobile home park. The following year, in May 2003, she filed for bankruptcy, listing just over $5,000 in assets and more than $26,000 in debts. She was 22 and expecting her first child. According to court documents, Melissa Lawless owed more than $17,000 in medical expenses, including two debts to ambulance services and $10,000 to a Tracy hospital. She earned a total of $10,525 in 2002 while working at the grocery store."
I cannot help but wonder why Huckaby's grandparents did not say anything early on in this case about Melissa's health problems. It is out of the norm that a 22 year old needed an ambulance 2 times (cost?) and racked up $10,000 in medical expenses at the Tracy hospital. Surely this was a subject that the Lane and Connie Lawless in Tracy had to have discussed with Melissa's parents who lived in southern California. Filing bankcruptcy at 23?

yes there is something that is not adding up... yes why stay at the church for an hour? and where is sandra during this hour? if this hour even exists.
one thing she is doing is placing herself everywhere there is any evidence. the suitcase, the dairy farm area, the church, and she is writing the note(which I believe there really is one). she texts sandra's mother her suitcase is missing. in her cell phone interview she wants to make sure this is off of her grandfather. but she inserted herself into this the first day long before they were bothering her grandfather. So it can't be just to get them off her grandfather.
so, the reason she started day one bringing attention to herself?
at that point I don't think she wanted caught, It's possible she was having a good time leading the police around. she was still in a good mood when she went in for questioning. she seemed fine on the cell phone interview.
If we get a detailed timeline of everything going on and who said what/when, I think it will be easier to sort out WHEN she is thinking WHAT, and who is lying when. It will be a massive task. I will try to work on one.

You would think the family would have known... but it doesn't seem that this family communicates with each other much.
As far as a 22 yr old needing an ambulance ride twice... I think we would need to know more about her medical and/or mental health history before knowing whether or not that is so unusual. It would be unusual for a 22 yr old in good physical and mental condition. We also don't know the circumstances, and whether or not anyone with a vehicle was available to take her to the hopsital.

California has a state disability program for employees. IIRC, deductions are taken from your paycheck weekly and one is eligible for the program the first day a person is admitted to a hospital or 7 days of unpaid sick leave. IIRC, no health/medical benefits are part of that.
It is not meant for long term benefits; there is a time limit.
However, there is a California medical program for the indigent. Here's a link I found about that. I know nothing about it personally.

This is a different program from federal Social Security Disability (SSD) program and Social Security's Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program. It is true that the federal SSD and SSI programs are long term benefits with a lot of paperwork by the claimant and the treating doctor(s).
In any event none of this matters much in the larger scheme of things; I am not going to get bogged about the details at this point. Huckaby's physical and/or mental health will only come into play during the trial in the event of an insanity defense which will be a hard role for a defense attorney to play with. [JMO * Themis]

I agree there obviously is a note - LE says "suitcase" is spelled wrong.
I'm grateful you're willing to work on a timeline, but with LE being mum, we don't have any real idea when any of this actually happened. When she left for the church, when she returned, when her Grandmother called to tell her her cell phone and keys had been located - all very crucial pieces to add to the timeline - are only pure guesses.
well it won't be a timeline of FACTS... we can sort the FACTS from the things everyone SAID/ WHEN.
It will be a timeline of WHO SAID what/when. This way we can see who is obviously lying. We find out who it lying about what / when, inaccordance with what FACTS we do know, and we might be able to figure out something.
people lie for some reason. They don't just lie if they don't have something to hide, and it is these underlying hidden things that will tell us a lot more about what this case is really about.
I will be sure to reference every single thing; who said it, date said, if it is documented on a record, if it was said on video by the police, if it is said by a reporter, or someone connected to the case etc.
also will add if there were any changes down the road and reference when and after what information came out that might be why someone changed.
like I said, a momumental task, but I'll work on it.
I think we have people lying and I want to know why.

[JMO * Themis]
this is where I am so much different. I will pay attention to all the details, not because I care about the details so much but I want to find the inconsistencies.
I care about knowing about her mental health, but not because of her defense. I want to know where she was, what kind of lifestyle she was living, how easily she is influenced, who she was around, did her problems start at a certain point, and if so, where was she at the time, who was she living with. etc. I have completely different reasons for wanting to know these things. The only way I know to figure these things out is to dig into her whole background and track what she was doing, who she knew, where she lived, her neighbors, her roommates, people she was in contact with etc. And when did she start showing signs of becoming like she did. Because people are not born this way, they become this way for a reason. And I want to know what and when that reason is... not because of her mental health issue or her defense, but rather what it was / is that she is around

Today we celebrate the life of another angel, Sandra.
Although we think she made her journey to heaven too soon, we thank God for her life and what she has meant to her family.
We vision her skipping and dancing through the streets of heaven and hope she has already met lots of new friends there.
Personally, today I think of other angels who may be waiting for her: Jake, Caleb, Ryan, Cole, Christal, Caylee, Spencer, Matthew, Peyton, Chloe, Gunner, most of who are early angels by another monster (cancer).
Sandra, you've touched our hearts.

Go for it, Meadowlark, and more power to you. I mean that sincerely. I'm interested in reading your future posts.
What I've seen from the family dynamics so far, IMO, lots of relatives very involved with their religion and going to church--some of them 'Pastors'. It looks to me as if, initially, they are spending a lot of time right now in the church of denial / protective of their public image...thinking back to their early public comments. Examples include grandmother Connie Lawless very weird responses, attitude, and demeanor when she and her husband were 'interviewed' inside their car; the aunt who would not give her full name but gave reporters statements in that recording; the father who says that girl is not my daughter; the uncle speaking in the church parking lot who would not give his full name (but perhaps I misunderstood that); and the fact that Melissa's mother is off in some undisclosed location vacationing with Melissa's daughter. As you said in a recent post: 'something else is going on here.' [JMO * Themis]

It's not uncommon for very low income people to use ambulances for minor things, that other people would use a car for. When I worked with pregnant teens the typical way for them to get to the hospital - in the normal case of healthy, normally progressing labor - was in an ambulance.
I agree. Also a visit to the doctor will require an insurance card. A hospital will have to treat you, no matter what. Sometimes people that don' t have insurance will go straight to a hospital for the most minor thing.

Huckaby's family expressed disbelief at the latest accusations. Her grandmother told KTVU she was home on March 27, the day Sandra Cantu disappeared.
Connie lawless said Melissa left the mobile home park for about an hour that Friday afternoon, telling her grandmother that she was going over to the church about a block and a half away to decorate a room.
Police searched the church twice last week.
Connie Lawless says when Melissa returned home, she did not appear any different than when she left.
Also: Late Monday, police also confirmed that Huckaby had gone on a date with a man who also lives at the mobile home park. Police have searched that man's home and towed three vehicles linked to him.

What is Prop. 63
This initiative would enact a new law to increase funding for mental health services to individuals who are not eligible for treatment through federally sponsored programs or their own health insurance plans. The additional revenue generated would be used exclusively to develop and expand integrated mental health services for children, adults, and seniors, including prevention, early intervention, education, and training programs.

You don't subscribe to the adage that some people are really just born evil, or bad? And no matter what outside influences there are in their lives, whether they are surrounded by love, etc they are still evil? *snip*
This is something I have always wondered about. Some times I say, yeah, they are born bad, then some times I think no way...something had to have happened to them along the way.
I know I watched a documentary on Jeffrey Dauhmer one time - it was a jail house interview with him and his father. It was EXTREMELY interesting. IIRC he said his parents divorced upset him grealty but no one never knew it because he kept it inside. He said his father was a distant man, didn't show much emotion to his children. And the father you could tell, was very surprised and upset by this news. He told the reporter, I never knew this. This is all very surprising to me.
And they went on to talk about how he was in scouts, or what not, and had a perfectly normal childhood by all accounts. Showed pictures of him growing up - he was a smiling happy looking little boy and teenager.
SO. Was he born bad? Did a few circumstances - that most people would process fine - cause him to go off track mentally?
I think it is a very interesting question. Like it's been said here many times - is this the one and only time Melissa assaulted a child? If yes, what made her do it all of sudden? If not, if this is a pattern no one knew about before now - was she born evil, or did she indeed have a history of being abused herself?
I am very anxious to hear about Melissa's past...

SSI is easy to get if you actually have a disability.
I think Melissa was able to work, just didn't or couldn't find 1 she wanted.
If her daughter was a premmie and had a disabiltiy from it, she would get it. But I don't recall who 1st labeled this little girl sickly, thin if it was Melissa, (she could have just lied to keep her daughter from going outside). The mother wouldn't get the health insurance it comes with, just the disabiled 1.
RipoffOctomom 2 or 3 kids get disability checks for adhd, autisum.
I think I confused this post, I need a short nap.
SSI may be easier to get but not disability benefits...not sure about the preemie thing never heard that until today..you can get SSI for short time right? Doctors are more presistant in demanding payment then hospitals. Hospital bills will go ignored for years. Hospitals are moraly required to treat anyone. Many people use the hospital and never pay. My brother in law at one time took his wife to the hospital for the birth of their child without insurance. He never payed the hospital bill.

More than likely her daughter was covered under medicaid.. it's for low income families.. only the child is covered I believe. They have WIC programs, food programs..
Medicaid covers the childs health needs.. you don't receive a check..
To receive income I think that would be through the welfare program if you aren't working.. it definately wouldn't be paid through disability.
Here's some info on the CA Medicaid programs.

Also, to receive disability you had to of paid so much into the system to be able to collect anything..

You don't subscribe to the adage that some people are really just born evil, or bad? And no matter what outside influences there are in their lives, whether they are surrounded by love, etc they are still evil? I do, I believe there are people who begin by torturing small animals and work their way up the food chain, so to speak. They can come from a perfectly normal background, no history of abuse, no history of mental instability, they are just bad from the beginning.
I DO believe someone is lying, in this particular case, and MH is only one piece of the puzzle, but that's only MO. She just looks to me like she got caught up in something that took over her life, but for what reason? IDK
I personally don't believe you are BORN bad or evil, but I do believe you can get that way at a VERY EARLY AGE. Newborns don't torture animals, but very small children do. Something makes them that way. And yes you can come from what appears to be or really is a very loving family and still become that way(because there is "something" that is going on someone does not know about, inside or outside the family). It might have nothing at all to do with your family. It could be a friend of the family, a neighbor, a playmate, something you saw, you read, you got interested in forwhatever reason. Something you are around somewhere. And it can start at a very early age, or you can become influenced by something later on down the line.
Melissa's family is trying to put this all off on a bad divorce and her being a single mom is why she has so many problems. That just is not what I think at all. Maybe that is what they truly think. I don't. And I also don't think she was born that way. Somewhere, at some point, she learned to be the way she is. Some people are influenced at a very early age before they even know what is really right and wrong, and others just get tangled up in things for whatever reasons and they seem to not want out of it. Some learn to hate and they become horrible people, some want someone to pay attention to them so they go along, some get tangled up before they know it and can't get out of whatever they are involved in, some graduate from one bad thing to another, etc; but I don't believe you enter this world bad or evil. Something happens to get you on that path. That's my take. Especially, with criminals

If you swallowed something like that I do not see any way of passing them without extensive damage other than surgery.
Does anyone know if she was x-rayed for proof that she really did swallow the blades? I would believe, if she really did swallow them, there is a very strong chance of a bowel perforation that could result in peritonitis and death.

I just keep thinking about the look on her face, and the absolutely haunted expression in her eyes, and part of me sees that she is really hurting and wants to somehow protect her because IMO she did not do this alone. I don't believe we will find a trail of molested children across the state that will point a finger at her, and I don't believe that we will find out her daughter was molested. Call me crazy, call me gullible, but we have not heard the whole story and I think we will be in for a few shockers......nothing that will exonerate her participation in a very horrendous crime, but will show that she was, indeed, just a part of the puzzle. I think the REALLY bad person is still out there, wondering if she will break and give them up. And what they have theatened her with if she does. IMO only

I have a hard time believing she wanted to die. She has a small child. Swallow the blades (possibly wrapped in something) deflect attention from herself and get a ride to the hospital. Since it's been reported that she has bleeding ulcers....
Agree. The expert (on NG) said it was not uncommon and that prisoners do this for attention. Perhaps the body can somehow cushion this kind of stuff; perhaps we've all accidentally swallowed small pieces of bone, the sharp shells of nuts, etc.
In a way, this fits with what Meadowlark has been suggesting, and that is that MH has studied, and is familiar with codes, behavioral signals and the conduct of killers and criminals.

Dauhmer led a double life. He went to church when he lived with his religious grandmother. Afterwards he would wander the woods killing and torturing small animals. Nobody knew. the first time he killed someone, he got away with it. It was a teen runaway. After he killed him, he drove around with the body in the trunk. Was once stopped by the police, but they didn't look in the trunk. It scared him, so he buried him. He went for years afterwards never killing anyone. Going to church faithfully. No one knew.

She's a seductress for her animal needs. Normal people have trouble getting their heads around this.
She's DIFFERENT even if she appears as a sympathetic character from time to time. OF COURSE, as her father says: she LOVES children! And she somehow can manifest a child-like appeal, in my opinion, like this sorry-@ss weepy persona. This is why kids will be around her, it's part of her trap, and how she can get attention and perhaps comfort, accompanied by physical affection. We saw the attorney AND the deputy give her *comforting* touches. She's good at attracting these behaviors.

It is isn't it..I don't know that we will ever know unless she talks many have ask how was she living with no job and owned the KIA but I am not going to go that far as to say she was doing something for profit but wont say I am not sure something is not fishy around there..that wont get me in trouble for rumors..lol

well it won't be a timeline of FACTS... we can sort the FACTS from the things everyone SAID/ WHEN.
Bunches are trying to cover their @sses--from embarrassment at spending time with her, to (family) co-dependence and patterns of sex abuse, to complicity in crimes. Unsophisticated though, otherwise they would have had more money. (There are big, big bucks in criminally competently organized porn etc)

Very interesting. This is baffling. They certainly seem above reproach -
One other interesting point, I think the trailer park maintenance guy mischaracterized Madison. According to Grandma, kids were in and out of the trailer all the time. The maintenance guy made some other comments, like all the other kids hang out and go to the park - like, they run as freely as Sandra did, so his frame of reference is that's how children should behave. Completely unsupervised. I get the impression Madison was supervised like most children, not like the ones the maintenance guy thought was more "normal".
I read today he said Sandra was the only one that was out playing and she knew everyone...kinda like she was all over the park and not all the other kids..which if not true I think it sounded as if she was allowed to roam out all the time..MLH lived 5 doors down..I am sure her mom wishes she never let her out the door after this and it is sad our kids can not be safe around who we think is a good person or people...so sad

I'm sure Sandra felt safe as well. Look how she skipped through the park, just looking for a playmate, something children do. Her mom will live with many a, "what if's" the rest of her life, that is the heart breaking part as well.

Tracy Police Concede Its a "Statistical Anomaly" for a Woman to Act Alone in Sandra Cantu Murder
TRACY (KRON) -- Tracy police say they're not surprised many people in the community think Melissa Huckaby did not act along when she allegedly killed eight year old Sandra Cantu.
"We completely understand that there would be speculation about that because it is so unusual that the mother of a child would kill another mother's child," Sgt. Tony Sheneman told KRON 4's Will Tran. "However, we had no indication at the time and still do not that anyone else is responsible for this. If we had any inkling that someone else was involved at any time with the commission of this crime, they would be in custody."

I asked last night but no answer, but anyway had asked if there was a transcript of the taped cell phone interview with Melissa
anway I made one
I transcribed this the best I could. I put "?'s" where I was not sure what it was saying. It's possible there might be a error but I think this is what it was saying.
R = reporter
M = Melissa
R- Um you know all those fingers are sort of pointing to your dad 'er your grandfather, you wanted to make something clear is that right.
M- Right
R- So, okay, so
M- I want, I want to make clear that he was not, that he's not at all somebody that wouldn't do anything and the only reason that (he saw?) her over here and at our church so much is because she was my daughter's best friend and came over here almost every day to play with my daughter and another thing is the suitcase, that was my suitcase, it was stolen out from in front of my house and I called my (something?) police dept and they told me, you are to make a report, you know, it would cost me $200.00 and you had to go online to make a report and I do not have access to internet so was unable to make a report at that time.
R- So do you believe your missing suitcase was the same suitcase Sandra was found in?
M- um I do not know the suitcase that I seen or what I could see on TV it does not look like my suitcase uh police have not uh disclosed any information whether or not it is my suitcase, I know they are ? something pictures of ? , my suitcase so that I can un let them know whether or not ..? suitcase is mine uh and that if uh so that's the extent of the suitcase? ?
R- Alright, so explain to me something I heard channel 11 but I want to make, I want hear it from you. There was a situation where you and your daughter were out with another kid and what happened there, somebody accused you of something?
M- oh, ?(uh uh) ? I had taken my daughter and one of her friends um to the park which I had done for the third time that week um her mother was uh I guess at work and the grandmother had told uh the little girl that she could uh go to the park which she does all the time and uh when the mother came home she didn't know where she was. um I'd given the mother my phone number um (? my cell phone? ) number in case of anything ? happen she could get ahold of me, she claimed to have lost the phone number um everything looked fine, and (? brought? got?) her back, the police were called out at the time and I was then called? to ? her mother did not know she wasn't with me, I mean she was with me, so uh I brought her home and then ????? and then later on that night at around probably 2 o'clock that morning the police came to the house to let me know that
end, video cuts off

Especially, with criminals
very good post! I had a friend growing up and she was a monster!! The reason she was so evil it seemed was her parents gave her everything she wanted!! She came from a wealthy family and never heard the word "NO". So when she did hear it she would do evil things. I believe some people are enablers but think they are just "loving" their children.

It's not uncommon for very low income people to use ambulances for minor things, that other people would use a car for. When I worked with pregnant teens the typical way for them to get to the hospital - in the normal case of healthy, normally progressing labor - was in an ambulance.
I don't know about CA..but in several states I have lived in..if a person was taken by ambulance they would be able to go straight to the ER with no waiting and the hospital HAD to take/admitt a person even w/no med. insurance. If you went by car to ER and a person did not have insurance the ER would make a determination ..if illness WAS an emergency ER would admitt..if NOT hospital would suggest patient see a Dr. in the hospital during regular hours. That may be the reason MH used the ambulance service the amount of times she did...Just a quess...

IMO her grandparents, when interviewed in their car just seemed like perfectly normal, harmless folks who really had no conception of what was about to happen. I don't think they suspected a thing. But everyone reads people and their reactions differently. And the vacation had been planned for a while, as I understood it......and if it hadn't I am glad she was able to get that young child out of there for right now.
You are so right..It really took me off guard the other night when I was watching her...The deputy gave her a comforting(you had the right word) pat on the arm..

I am so moved seen how many people came to say good bye to Sandra. Its hard to even type. An inocent child lost. May she be with God now. I don't think I will be able to forget her, I will keep her in my hearth as if she was my own child.
It was amazing and so touching I don't think I have ever cried so much..her poor family her little sister looked to really be hanging on to her mom so sad.
I do not live there and I thank them for doing this since so many have been watching and following this since the first or second day her sweet smile has touched so many and I think she will not die in vain she will change the way we look at things..

Its true seing all her pictures she always had a smile, she looked so inocent. She seemed so happy al the time. That monster better not get away with just a slap on the hand claiming mental problems.

Thats what I really hope for that she didn't die in vain, that we as mother fight so tha laws change in many of our states so this predators don't see the day of light ever again. No mother deserves to go though so much pain by losing such a beautifull child.

I have a feeling that she is really going to have to prove she is insane because i think that police department is going to see to it she gets what is coming to her.
I think she will be found sane she knew what she was doing at the time so I pray Justice is served for this child and pray there is no others..to see the smile and life in those pictures and that family crying and hurting breaks my heart and I want a fair trial but I want JUSTICE and I have faith it will be done and in the right manner.
