This is so heart breaking. I had actually convinced myself last night when I went to bed that she couldn't be in the container and dumped in that pond. I reasoned that anyone would know that it was periodically drained and would be found. Which now makes me wonder if it WAS a person staying at that motel that wouldn't know that fact. Didn't the police set up a command post at the motel? I would think they would be checking people going in and out.

This poster claims that in the last video of Sandra she is coming from the back of the club house. I wonder if Sandra went inside the club house. Are there is recreational activities there for kids, etc?

it was full when they searched that area before and saturday they did not have dogs out there from what I heard but there are so many of these ponds. The only scent that was picked up was to a lake or something can not remember what it is called..

I am thinking no our kids are not safe anywhere my son even said this was a nice place when he worked there a few months ago..I am also wondering if the comment left on one of the media links she said they had people working on a mobile home there and hoped they had talked to all them,..not sure if it was true but she did say she lived there in the park but had never seen Sandra before..but a lot more kids were playing outside since the time change.

Yes. Apparently another friend lives where she was headed and the family thought that's where she was going. It's been reported that the friend wasn't home. So we don't know what happened after that.

Lets go back to who they have talked to and took cars I was watching HLN and can not remember the guys name but he used to work for the FBI I think he said you can not just get a warrant for no reason it is harder than most think he said a lot will let you go ahead and search the homes if they have nothing to hide..so here is what we do know

1/they talked to the Martial Arts guy took his van it has been returned...so thinking he did not do anything..

2/they arrested CS the night he was getting his place search he was released but they went back and searched again and took his mercedes

3/they searched a home in oakdale dug in the yard looked through the boat there and reported to be connected to CS..not sure if they took any of their cars or the boat..

4/they took the guy who was at the vigils who was on TV saying he had told her to be careful of who she talked to..if I am correct he is the same one she went over and played games with they took his car..do not know if it has been released yet...one report said he was a bachelor but he said she would come play games with him and his wife so not sure if they had that wrong who ever it was he was 44yrs old..

5/Dad said he took a poly LE would not confirm it not so sure I think he didn't do anything or he would not be sticking around there..

6/They searched the hotel with dogs and got all the people who stayed there and watched video from the parking lot of the hotel..

now they also searched other mobile homes just do not remember them 6 places right??were searched and stuff taken out of..that is what we do now..which is not much other than they did take multiple cars in and searched homes several times..not saying it is any of these guys but a lot of focus on them for some reason..

Slayter lived in #43 that was the name and yeah they said they search all homes 2 times but their cars were not taken away or had things taken out of their homes..and no search warrant for everyone's home they got warrants to searched just 6 places is what I read..

They haven't ruled anyone out as far as I know. In one of the Press Conferences, the Sheriff said everyone is a POI. I hope they clear that up today in their presser so at least the family isn't under suspicion.

I've had my share of suspicions on the family from day 1 but I know there are predators out there also stalking victims. It's all so sad that an innocent child had to die this way. :sad:

I just saw this news this morning when I got to work and logged on. The foxnews said Girls body found in suitcase. I was like oh no oh no oh no....is it Sandra or Amber?? But Amber is 14, so I figured it was Sandra, and then the article came up and alas there was her pretty little face. :crying:

Just speculation, the money may only refer to the movies, but if the family is Catholic maybe Sandra wanted to put some change in a collection box and light a candle.

The church mentioned though is the Clover Road Baptist Church and I don't know if they have the same type of thing; candles to light at the alter.

I brought this up on yesterday's thread that Sandra may have gone to the snack machines and then been lured into one of the rooms in that motel.

This is so devastating for a family, but it reaches so much further. Those poor workers who found the suitcase, they can't unsee finding that and then knowing what it contained. No matter how hardened a police officer is, finding a dead child always takes a toll, the ME should never have to do an autopsy on a childs body and so forth... all because one sick and evil twisted mind took a precious life... so many others (and often not the right one) suffer!

They also questioned the husband and wife....Slayter I believe was his name. The one who said Sandra would go there often to help out with chores and play board games. He attended the vigils.

Even that poster's home (from the link posted earlier) was searched twice.

Could it be someone working at the dairy farms? Maybe a helper who didn't stay around for long? I would hope LE is checking into that. I hope they checked those painters too.:sad:

Rainy; I know just how you feel, it’s why I stopped posting. When I saw the video of Sandra I could not help but remember when I was her age, playing Dave Crockett with my friends. That was 52 years ago; it brakes my heart that Sandra will never get the chance to grow up and experience life.

Sadly, I think maybe they were just comfortable in their little area and she played with other children often by walking to their homes. I know 8 o clock seems late to me but who knows. Clearly she was happy in her last seen flim skipping andnot a care in the world. Being that the Motel/Hotel is so close by and the suitcase/rolling bag they found her in...I'm guessing the hotel has surveillance tapes to see if someone entering or exiting had a matching suitecase/rolling bag.

Sounds like they have someone in their sights. Possibly something found in one of the trailers or some information they learned from this led them to the shed at the church.

My family has three large rolly bags - two black, one navy, and a smaller weekend rolly pilot bag. They are in my closet, I see them all the time, and I couldn't ID them. I could rule many suitcases out, for sure - but the generic black woven canvas rolly bag - they look SO similar.

Maybe this one is unusual in some way, but right now if you go to an airport baggage carousel, so many suitcases are indistinguishable.

I believe that is why people tie ribbons etc in colors to easily identify their bags. Somone, hopefully a good soul will recognize that bag as belonging to their family and report it. I hope they catch the SOB that did this!! I had a bad feeling yesterday when it was announced that LE was checking a suspicious container found in a pond and then nothing else was said. I knew that if nothing was in the container it would have been announced right away. This is awful! My heart goes out to her family.

I am trying to think of reasons why LE would have the church / shed as a crime scene. I would think , in a church shed there would lawn equipment. I wonder if someone who volunteers or works at the church also lived, worked or visited someone in the mobile home park.

Maybe Sandra was taken by vehicle out of the park and TO the shed...then killed there ?

You know, I think I would be keeping my kiddos home today from school, to avoid further damage by the emotions of all around them. Too much to process for young minds. This initial knowledge the children and students have that she has died and in a suitcase is more than enough to deal with. Only one station reported it and the link is still available through google. Since then the station has "updated" the article and that link no longer includes the information regarding the red ribbon.

I used to be a teacher. We had some events happen that required next day in school counselors and such. There was a such a buzz within the school that we couldn't keep the children away from the thoughts of missing and murdered girls. It had some really, really scared. For those students, it would have been better to protect them from it a bit more. For others, they were still in their child centered state, that it didn't affect them they way it did others. No answers, just questions.

No offense taken by me, and I agree with thinking that a female bias might push things along, but also know that the family violence issue (not that this is in this case), involves so many. We do know they said that she was found in her clothing but they haven't said if she was bound but if she was then duct tape can still hold fingerprints and other trace evidence even if it has been submerged.

I just hope there is evidence galore to convict this monster and send him to the pits of Hell.:mad:

Tracy police seal off the Orchard Estates Mobile Home Park Monday as another home was searched following the announcement that Sandra Cantu had been found dead. Sandra’s mother, Maria Chavez, passed out when she heard the news and was taken to the hospital. Sandra’s father, Danny Cantu, a 37-year-old who lives in Mexico now and rarely saw his daughter, was on his way to the press conference at City Hall when he was called in to the police station. There, Thiessen shook his hand and told him his little girl was gone, said his friend, Gina Schnabel.

Sandra’s grandfather, Joe Chavez, had put up a surveillance camera after tires were slashed in what he suspected were run-ins with a neighbor over cats he trapped. Police have spent a lot of time focusing on Chavez’s neighbors as well, but now they’re looking for a murder suspect.

A caravan of FBI agents pulled into the mobile home park just before 10:30 p.m. Monday, though no announcements of an arrest was made. At about 11:45 p.m., agents pulled up to search the Clover Road Baptist Church Missionary Independent at 1100 W. Clover Road.

The bag was submerged. The farmers did not see it until they started to drain the pond. Police had searched that area twice before but did not drag the pond. If it had been on the surface the whole time they would have seen it.

Only one station reported it and the link is still available through google. Since then the station has "updated" the article and that link no longer includes the information regarding the red ribbon.

I understand what your saying but I just can't see someone placing her in a suitcase and tossing her if it were just an accident. Why wouldn't they just drive away? Wouldn't someone have been a witness?

No you aren't the only one. My sister and I for that matter even though I don't have any kids in school feel the same way. She does have kids in school and a few times be it a death of a student from a car accident or suicide or murder the school has brought in grief counselors etc and she has purposely kept her kids home and talked to them about it herself especially if the child involved was someone they didn't know. The first time she had to contend with the grief counseling at school her girls didn't know the boy involved but yet came home even more upset than before they had gone to school and they knew about the suicide before they went to school as it happened over a weekend. So from that point on anytime she is faced with it she does keep her girls home and they talk about it. I am not saying that works for everyone but it works for her and her girls.

I don't know. I'm not really married to the thought of a car accident, I'm just feeling this isn't going to turn out to be what I thought all along - that a pedophile snatched her, had sex with her and murdered her.

This looks like panic to me. Usually when predators kill children, I'm amazed at how brash and self-assured their crimes appear to be. As if they have a right to the child's life.

Folding her up fully clothed, in a suitcase and putting her in that small pond - looks to me like someone who doesn't have a criminal mind and doesn't have intent to use and disrespect her. And was in such a complete panic that they couldn't even think of a reasonable way to hide her.

Seems to me probably someone from the mobile home park, panic then went to the pond. The guy that obstructed a search at the park seems a very likely suspect to me and also maybe someone noticed something suspicious at the pond in the last couple of weeks.

A couple of notes... no, we do not want to send these monsters into another country as a representative of our country... do you really want to put another persons children in that kinds of harms way??? These monsters would think they had free reign somewhere where the legal system wouldn't touch them.

Second, I think in part the idea of counselors and other children around is very beneficial to the children, they relate on a completely different level with each other than they do with adults.

Also... what if this was a suitcase that had just been picked up and had no association w/the actual person committing the crime.

Everyone needs to keep better tabs on their own children and even those close to your home and family. Teach your children to be leery of strangers but not terrified of everyone around.

A couple of notes... no, we do not want to send these monsters into another country as a representative of our country... do you really want to put another persons children in that kinds of harms way??? These monsters would think they had free reign somewhere where the legal system wouldn't touch them.

Second, I think in part the idea of counselors and other children around is very beneficial to the children, they relate on a completely different level with each other than they do with adults.

Also... what if this was a suitcase that had just been picked up and had no association w/the actual person committing the crime.

Everyone needs to keep better tabs on their own children and even those close to your home and family. Teach your children to be leery of strangers but not terrified of everyone around.

(April 7) - A few miles from the irrigation pond where the body of 8-year-old Sandra Cantu was discovered in a suitcase, authorities roped off the mobile home park where she was last seen searching for clues to her death.


I heard this late last night on the radio. So very sad for her and for her family.

We are generally very good in this country when it comes to investigating missing children, because it's assumed that little ones like Sandra don't usually leave voluntarily.

Where we get into murkier waters, IMHO, is with missing adults and balancing individual adult rights to do as they please with family insistence that a disappearance is out of character. It is a tough balancing act, but IMO what other countries have done with a national policy makes it easier for police to mount a full investigation while not stepping on an individual's rights.

Evidence team searched church from 9 pm last night and did not leave until 4 am. They are processing evidence in Sacramento and are expected to return later today.

Pastor of church lives in mobile park but Tracy police won't say what the connection is between the church and the case.

The church is an "active" crime scene.

p.s. The shed is very accessible and is only about 15-20 feet away from the street from what I can see on TV.
