I noticed the article about the man reporting the tip was timed this morning before the container was found. Could be they decided they better check it out & then found it.
I'm curious now about who lives on that dairy farm.
As soon as I replied to you, Destini, I went back and looked at the time that article was published very early this morning.
Is this a coincidence? Imo no. I think LE called the farm and ask them to drain the pond and they found the bag.
I do wonder if anyone that lives in that trailer park works at the dairy farm. I think the perp went there because he was familiar with that area.

Your post just reminded me of something I read earlier today, don't know if it's connected or not .....
http://cbs13.com/crime/tip.boat.sandra.2.977073.html
(snipped)
An Oakland man wants answers from Tracy Police. He claims he gave them a tip about Sandra Cantu's whereabouts and they didn't follow up.
Johnny Williams says he called a tip into police Friday, but never got a response. He said he saw a man in a boat with a girl where the police had been searching. He says the man in the boat's behavior was erratic and suspicious.
I came across mention of this earlier today. But if it's true he saw a man in a boat WITH a girl, then the suitcase thing doesn't make sense. Also I'd think it would be difficult to drag a suitcase onto a boat. I'm not sure what to think of that tip.

Tia, they don't want the media to get the front line on this one, not until they have secured the evidence, I can understand that.
All these little girls should be skipping and getting ready to collect easter eggs, not be found thrown away like trash, as you say.
Its unthinkable what this family is going through.
Its safe to say they are not dining at the Ritz tonight with the media, though.
I am really happy to see that they are blocking the media on this one.
Sandra's mother is in so much pain.........I can't imagine what she is going through, and as you say, I'm sure she is not dining at the Ritz tonight......... She is most likely a complete disaster, hoping like we all are that Sandra is NOT in that container.

Farmworkers discovered the container in a pond that had been drained for the first time in two weeks and called San Joaquin Sheriff's Department at 10:30 a.m. today.
The Tracy Police Department was called, and an immediate roadblock was set up on Tracy Boulevard, close to Bacchetti and Whitehall roads, about two miles north of the Orchard Estates Mobile Home Park, where 8-year-old Sandra Cantu was reported missing on March 27.
Sheneman said there is no indication that there is a body inside the container; however, a coroner's van arrived at the farm off Tracy Boulevard around 3 p.m.
The Tracy Police Department have said they'll have a press conference at 8 tonight to report the latest findings regarding a suspicious container found this morning.

A john boat would do just fine in the size pond. It is light weight and it can even be hauled in the back of a pickup without having to have a trailer. One man can launch it by themselves.

I don't know what to think. I'm wondering if this is the same body of water the tipster was calling about. If it is & it is her, I'd say the tipster is an eyewitness & most likely lives somewhere right around that farm himself. Tipster could actually be one of the farm workers. Hmm.
But he did say he saw a man and a little girl in the boat, not a bag ..... so I don't know.

It was a black piece of luggage of significant size with both hard and soft sides.

I know but to be honest I think they knew there was a decomposing body in the container. Hate to say it but they don't call out the FBI & medical examiner and close off air space for every discarded item.
I lean to the same conclusion.
But, looking for some hope here, what if they ARE taking all these extra precautions. These are smallish towns and are relatively close together. The FBI, and ME might be more available than in say Los Angeles.
But then....a suitcase in an irrigation pond, dumped there within the last 2 weeks? What are the chances for such a weird and coincidental occurence?

I think it is just police-ism and the way they phrase everything. They say the luggage or container is sealed so imo the decomp maybe has not escaped but they will continue to say there is no indication of a human body because they have not opened it up yet.
They are not going to get caught saying something that turns out to make them look inept if it happens not to be Sandra or a body and I really hope it isn't.
So I don't find that phrasing odd at all but typical speak-isms by LE.

The sides slope. It is a piece of cake to take a john boat out of the back of a pickup truck and just push it down the sloped embankment into the water.

The LE official's statement was "There are no indications that there are human remains in there," Tracy police spokesman Sgt. Tony Sheneman said.
the word human is the adjective, so that kind of tells me they know it's decomp remains of some sort.
I agree that a suitcase in an irrigation pond would be suspicious. Especially since it apparently materialized there within the last two weeks (since it was last drained)
But LE would recognize the difference between human and animal decomp, no? If it's an animal, why in a suitcase, why not dump it somewhere (much as that makes me seethe) or bury it ?

Do you even think they would do that this soon? I mean (gosh how I hate to write this) but she may not be recognizable even if it is her and they may have to do DNA.
I don't think we are going to know much more tonight but I guess we might.

I think we'll know. I can't imagine they'll call a press conference if they haven't opened the container and looked - and it's either the remains of a little girl, or it isn't. I think just by the hair color and length it will be obvious, if in fact it's human remains, although obviously they'll have to do the forensics.
You are probably right. I guess I am dreading it in a way.
I thought they said the container had to be taken out of town. Do you think they have had time to do all of this

I think the only thing they will say is if it was a false alarm or not, if it is a body they will not be able to confirm who it is yet.

And then I hope that it isn't her at all but maybe some stolen items from a robbery or something.

The press or whoever is in that room is sure noisy. Laughing, loud talking, etc. I would think that, regardless of the results, the fact that there even needs to be a press conference regarding a missing child should constitute a solemn occassion.

Did he say she was still wearing her clothes? Or maybe the clothes were in the suitcase with the remains? I know he said she was ID'd through clothing, but there was a sound blip and I couldn't understand it he said the clothes she was wearing.
If she's still wearing her clothing, this is a very odd case, and hard to understand. And different than what I am suspecting.
I didn't hear fully clothed either, and I was left wondering by statements made, if she was clothed, or just some clothing was on, or in the suitcase.

I wouldn't automaticaly assume anything based on fact she was wearing clothes. I've seen cases where the murderer re-dressed the victim before dumping their body.
So have I. The Perpetrator was going to let the child go home after threatening her to not tell what happened, but she started crying and he panicked so she was killed. The child was fully dressed and about to walk out the door when it happened.

It IS odd, you're right. If the zipper was in working order, and the ribbon wasn't needed to actually seal the suitcase closed, a red ribbon is VERY odd.
Like, a loved one would do.
This child was not killed by a sexual predator. But by someone who loved her.
Is it a fact that it is a red ribbon? Could it have been one of those straps that you use around luggage?

Just watched the press conference. At first, I had talked myself into believing it wasn't her, but throughout the late afternoon and early evening it became clearer that it was more than likely her, but hearing the news officially was like a punch in the gut. :crying:
I don't believe she ever made it out of that mobile park alive. However, I don't suspect the family at all, however I do think it was someone that knew her and felt bad about what they did afterwards. I think the suitcase would be an easy means of getting her out of there without arousing that much suspicion.
I have a good feeling (the only one) that they will find out who did this relatively quickly. I feel LE has a lot of good leads and that limited pool/ narrow focus of the mobile park as the highest probability of containing the suspect will help a great deal.
It could be as easy as someone's wife or family member noticing a missing piece of luggage. If their really was a red ribbon, it may not be significant other than just an identifying characteristic of the suitcase. A lot of people tie a ribbon or something around their suitcase handle to help them identify it when comes out of the baggage claim since so many bags look alike.
