WASHINGTON - President Obama's trip to California this week won't be all about work.
Instead, he will take a little break.
According to a White House official, the president plans to appear on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" on Thursday.

Obama is scheduled to be in California for two town hall meetings. The campaign-like stops outside the beltway are part of the administration's ongoing efforts to promote the stimulus and the budget.
Odd now he does town hall meetings in California..after being elected..never bothered during the campaign.. now he does just to push his stimulus and budget.. hope people that are living in tents in Sacramento get a chance to attend.. JMHO

Wonder how much this is going to cost the taxpayers. Does he ever stop campaigning? He tells us to sacrifice but he doesn't.

I guess Jay wants his ratings to go up. At least for one night. You will have to keep up posted and remind us so we can all tune in to Leno for a change and help his cause. We sure would not want to miss a president that actually keeps in tough with the American people. And since not everyone has internet, how better to do it than in person or on television.

I won't be watching.. not because it's Obama... but I can't stand Leno.. never have watched him... I'm a Letterman type of gal.. he's hilarious.

What a foolish statement, IMO.
Yes, it must be difficult adjusting to a POTUS who actually is accessible to the people especially after the last administration that hid for months from the public while the country was in crisis, but it sure didn't slow down his travel from ranch to DC to Camp David.

Indeed, Interested.
Not to mention disrespectful and demeaning to the President of the US.
I--along with millions and millions and millions of Americans--am so happy that our President is visiting states and meeting with Americans across the country and appearing on tv.
The other night on Bill Maher, he tried to make a couple of jokes about Obama and it did not go over well. the audience did not laugh. he tried twice and failed twice. And he said something like oh I can't make a joke about the president and the audience once again was silent. The american people do not find humor in this president. They see hope and change and what they voted for. i think bill was shocked. i sensed that in his facial expression. I'm just saying....

Thank you! It sure did not sound right when I heard it on CNN and I have been meaning to check on that all weekend.
Perhaps they meant visits to make sure the rebuilding was taking place (or not) and for moral support?

You know, I felt the same way as you did when I saw it. I's not that Americans don't found humor in the President, I don't think, but that people admire and trust him and have faith in him and don't want the easy nasty jab jokes about him.
Exiled.

I've been asking the same question but you see how far that got me.
Obama transitioned into governing mode the first day he took office. Did you miss that?

I've been asking the same question but you see how far that got me.Have you seen the latest? He is firing up the campaign apparatus again to send out millions of emails to push his horrible budget!
I believe they call that a cramdown from a bully pulpit.

In fact, I have yet to see him lead. He has played the blame game and campaigned since the swearing in.
Oh and hosted a cocktail party every Wed. nite.

I agree, and I just don't think he is as comical as some others like McCain and Palin. I'm glad someone else saw it - me and my mom were like wow, the audience isn't laughing.
It's a serious job at a very serious time and the huge approval ratings for the President make it impossible to laugh at his expense. He also does not give that many opportunities--as with gaffes, etc--to make jokes about.

What happened to all that Yes We Can? Now it's 'not my fault'. Wonder if Leno will sing Yes We Can?

I really wonder, a lot of times, if folks just have never paid attention to what Presidents do, before?
I don't know why you're so confused. The President's economic policy is a trillion dollar joke. What better place to go and campaign for it?

Real funny, isn't it? I'm talking about this concern about Obama's "campaigning" expenses.
GWB was in office for some 2,535 days. Of these, he spent over 900 days either at Crawford, TX, or at other retreats.
During these times he had many lavish BBQ outings with his friends while our troops were being killed and wounded in the unjust war we were waging in Iraq. Also, we were losing precious American lives in the war we were fighting in Afghanistan.
These vacations w/BBQ shindigs has cost us (taxpayers) a fortune. The Iraq war is still costing us American lives and 10 Billion dollars a month. And, don't forget Afghanistan.
Obama's "campaigning" doesn't amount to a grain of sand in the Sahara desert, compared to the past 8 years of Republican wasteful spending.
Just My Humble Opinion.

You must be very upset then about Obama's spending spree:
During his presidential campaign, President Barack Obama promised the American people a “net spending cut.” Instead, he signed a “stimulus” bill that spends $800 billion, and he has proposed a budget that would:
Increase spending by $1 trillion over the next decade
Include an additional $250 billion placeholder for another financial bailout
Likely lead to a 12 percent increase in discretion*ary spending
Permanently expand the federal government by nearly 3 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) over pre-recession levels
Raise taxes on all Americans by $1.4 trillion over the next decade
Raise taxes for 3.2 million taxpayers by an average of $300,000 over the next decade
Call for a pay-as-you-go (PAYGO) law despite offering a budget that would violate it by $3.4 trillion
Assume a rosy economic scenario that few econo*mists anticipate
Leave permanent deficits averaging $600 billion even after the economy recovers; and
Double the publicly held national debt to over $15 trillion ($12.5 trillion after inflation).

Just read this on Yahoo...
Now being I live in California.. his remarks about school I have to admit rub me the wrong way... we are laying off teachers by the thousands, closing schools, having larger classes.. and he says this...
"LOS ANGELES – President Barack Obama says those demanding more money for education should be willing to embrace reform, too.
Speaking at a town-hall event in Los Angeles on Thursday, Obama said: "You can't have something for nothing."
The president was responding to a woman who told him that California schools were facing enormous deficits. She told the president: "We need help."
Obama says his administration is pushing to spend more on education. But he noted that state and local governments spend the most on schools and will keep doing so.
He says schools pleading for more money must be willing to consider better testing of kids. He also says schools should endorse training teachers or getting rid of the ones who are not doing the job."
We are already getting rid of good teachers and bad because we don't have the money for them or his blessed testing... What part did he miss in the woman's question...

I've had it up to my eyeballs with reform.. when we see what those idiots in DC are doing.. wrong word to use IMO

California has to provide education for all it's residents even though some may be breaking federal law which is not enforced. But California can not refuse education to anyone.

I hope Obama will practice what he preaches and get rid of his employees who aren't doing their jobs..
Education should not be run by Government, especially the current Government who is totally into the Taxing and spending mode.. it's bothersome and scary to say the least... IMO
