Newbie here, but have lurked since July. Like others here, I've been compelled to follow this very, very sad and tragic story. Reading your posts daily since then, giving me different insights and thoughts. I had hoped today would be a day peace for Caylee... FOR Caylee. I too had to link up at work and watch the memorial. I had such mixed emotions about watching it but I felt the need to see if this family would be true to their word (by that I mean having a memorial FOR CAYLEE) where we would hear sweet stories of this beautiful precious child. I'm sorry to say that I could not bear to listen to the family after Cindy started speaking. I tried to believe that this would be only about Caylee, but they tore that thought from me after Lee, George and Cindy spoke. I'm sorry I watched this memorial as I would have been better off keeping Caylee in my thoughts throughout this day. Sorry for rambling. It just makes me so sad.

I was just thinking when Cindy started her spiel about how loving a mother Casey was, and how she was so much like Caylee.

Of just how common it is for the families of killers to live in total denial of what their loved one is/was capable of. I guess that is the only way they feel they can cope without falling apart emotionally.

To this day,the Petersons still deny their son murdered their daughter in law and grandbaby. I guess in a way we should pity them more than anything else.

I sure hope they have alot of support from their church, and their family because I really do believe like most other's here that the evidence against Casey is overwhelming, and that she will be convicted.

Some of us, including myself, had no intention of watching this because we knew and anticipated that this was done with ulterior motives none of which had anything to do with honoring or memorializing Caylee.

I am so sorry for all of you that ended up feeling anger and betrayal.

I can only hope that you can put the travesty that you just saw out of your minds, and take a moment to just remember Caylee, say a prayer, have a moment of silence or in whatever private and personal way you can, just do what you have to on your own and with each other to heal and remember this innocent two year old child.

Sadly this went exactly how we predicted. :crying:

Gotta disagree, Willow. If you look back the past few days, many predicted the entire memorial would be "all about Casey" with slideshows of her photos, everyone up there saying that Casey was innocent, and blah blah.

Never happened.

It was all about Caylee. With the small exception of Cindy mentioning Casey. Unfortunate, that. But she loves her daughter, unconditionally. I just wish she had not mentioned Casey at all.

But aside from that, it was a beautiful service, a true memorial for that little girl. Absolutely lovely.

But when one is looking to criticize, it's easy to find something to criticize about. I look at what was wonderful about the memorial, and there was plenty that was. George's stories were nice.....he made us see Caylee in her every day life. Cindy did also, though not as well. Lee....well Lee is Lee. A strange bird. Who knows what he meant up there.

The songs were beautiful. Slide show was great. The sermons were good. All in all, a terrific memorial.

Not really.....she wore a floatation jacket......(if that is true)......just as my niece did when she was younger, and at a point she would do swimming motions and move pretty quickly across the pool......

though if you took off the floatation jacket, she couldn't keep herself up, so we'd help prop her up with our hands under her tummy.....

Anyway.....I wish Cindy and George would have omitted a few sentences. I'll agree with you there.

ITA, he said it has been so long since I've seen you...hugged you, etc. ( paraphrased). He DIDN"T say he was sad he would never hug her again, etc....one doesn't have to read very closely between the lines to see his message. If you doubt he was speaking to casey, listen to his little speech again.

I wish that the A's would have redacted some of the statements from the speeches they have.....but I didn't see anything overly heinous about what was said, and didn't take away from Caylee while I was watching. I guess it depends on what your focus was while watching it.

I was one of those who suspended my opinion until after the service. I gave up a long time ago predicting how others will act. I didn't want to go into this with preconceived notions which would taint how I viewed the service.

Here is my take. I don't have a problem with the mention of Casey's name in prayer. Quite frankly to me it would have been unnatural to not mention this precious child's mother. I thought the music was beautiful and the flowers tastefully done. At a service you don't choose only the music that the deceased loved. I would think that Caylee's favorite music would have been weird. You choose music that conveys the message of hope and the Lord's love and the belief that someday we all will be united in His home.

I'm on the fence about Lee's message. There are parts where I believe he was talking about Caylee and parts where I believe he was talking about Casey. The kissing of the bracelet was clearly meant to imply he was referring to Caylee.

I thought George's message struck the proper note. He spoke of Caylee and her life. Her likes and her loves. Perhaps the stuff about the command center could be relating a time when he felt he had a purpose. He had a reason to get up and feel like he was doing something. He will never believe ill of Kidfinders because they offered what he saw as help. He probably shouldn't have requested letters to Casey but I don't have a problem with his expressing his love for Casey. Overall I think he did a good job.

I don't dissect every word of Cindy's speech. I think she began well. I don't have a problem with her mention of how Caylee came into her life. She also had some fine memories of Caylee. Unfortunately, the message went down hill from there. She focused too much on trying to get a message to Casey. She did end well. She just needed to cut out that middle part. If they wanted the shamrocks to be a show of support for Casey, they should have just worn them and not offered an explaination. She would get the message.

For the most part I thought it was a very moving service.

It's over. They've had their show, we've mourned, Caylee is honored no matter what they did.

I thought the memorial was beautiful.....I thought the Anthony's (George,Cindy and Lee) gave beautiful speeches....I thought that they watched their wording very carefully....Let's not forget that Casey is a part of this family.....and any family member would want to think that the loved one that did this, is now sorry and regretful for what happened.....(even though we all know that Casey is not regretful for the act but only for being in jail)....but her parents and brother obviously feel different....

I became a little nervous when Casey's name was first brought up, but after listening intently, I saw that they were no longer defending Casey but more like standing by her....

When Cindy said that she wished she could be by Casey at this moment to comfort her.....I felt that what she was saying was a mother who wants to believe that her daughter is sorry for what she did......

This family is devastated to say the least and understandably so.....I came away from this memorial feeling that this family is grieving beyond grief for Caylee and are also grieving for their daughter as well......

I certainly can understand that even if I do not go along with them trying to cover up what their daughter had done.....It's a very sad situation, one I wouldn't want to be in.....I will keep them in my prayers....Casey on the other hand, will have to ask for her own forgiveness.....

Yeah, there is no rift in the family - Jose was at the jail watching the memorial with Casey on his laptop via wireless internet, and LKB was at the memorial with the Anthonys. I am pretty sure I saw LKB hug Cindy outside the church immediately following the memorial. I didn't see LKB inside the church; I'm not sure whether that was because there were so many people that she was not visible to the camera or whether LKB's heart was simply not "pure" enough to allow her to enter the hallowed Anthony memorial show.

I don't know what I'd do if I was in their shoes as far as not mentioning Casey. I probably would have made a very small one and that would be that.

Then when he kissed his hand....I THOUGHT he was kissing a Caylee bracelet....but, after re-watching it I don't see a bracelet. How wierd.....was he sending kisses to Casey???? I was one of those who suspended my opinion until after the service. I gave up a long time ago predicting how others will act. I didn't want to go into this with preconceived notions which would taint how I viewed the service.

Here is my take. I don't have a problem with the mention of Casey's name in prayer. Quite frankly to me it would have been unnatural to not mention this precious child's mother. I thought the music was beautiful and the flowers tastefully done. At a service you don't choose only the music that the deceased loved. I would think that Caylee's favorite music would have been weird. You choose music that conveys the message of hope and the Lord's love and the belief that someday we all will be united in His home.

I'm on the fence about Lee's message. There are parts where I believe he was talking about Caylee and parts where I believe he was talking about Casey. The kissing of the bracelet was clearly meant to imply he was referring to Caylee.

I thought George's message struck the proper note. He spoke of Caylee and her life. Her likes and her loves. Perhaps the stuff about the command center could be relating a time when he felt he had a purpose. He had a reason to get up and feel like he was doing something. He will never believe ill of Kidfinders because they offered what he saw as help. He probably shouldn't have requested letters to Casey but I don't have a problem with his expressing his love for Casey. Overall I think he did a good job.

I don't dissect every word of Cindy's speech. I think she began well. I don't have a problem with her mention of how Caylee came into her life. She also had some fine memories of Caylee. Unfortunately, the message went down hill from there. She focused too much on trying to get a message to Casey. She did end well. She just needed to cut out that middle part. If they wanted the shamrocks to be a show of support for Casey, they should have just worn them and not offered an explaination. She would get the message.

For the most part I thought it was a very moving service.

I agree completely! But don't forget the Anthonys are starting a charitable foundation in Caylee's name - so I assume they will be speaking and raising money for that. Would a foundation provide a salary for those who run it? I assume the Anthonys need to make a living somehow.
Who would oversee such a foundation to see where the money goes? I would hate to think that the foundation would pay anything toward Casey's bills.... or any of the Anthony family's for that matter.

Just got home ( of course, had an appointment!) and was listening to HLN - a psychologist the Anchor was interviewing was asked about "some people out there who harbor cynicism towards the family."

The psychologist said that what George said, "that people should write to Casey in jail" could be seen in a bad light.

Did George really ask this?!?!?!?

Psychologist also said this family is unique in their grieving because the daughter is accused of murdering the grandchild.

Psy said that you can go either two ways with this - either the parents disown that child for murdering their grandchild OR the parents decide to love, accept, forgive and stand by their child - which is what it appears the Anthonys are doing.

I thought this service was planned very well. The music provided was there for anyone who wished to be uplifted, cynthia chose very well, imo.

The video tape chosen of Caylee was a good one and did not, as I expected show the murderer. I am very thankful for that.

George's eulogy was very good. I do not fault him for asking these church goers to pray for casey anthony. God knows she needs prayers, imo.

I'm Catholic too and during my fathers mass, my uncle, sister and son, all spoke. and we had a ton of music. I think it must depend on what you ask for.

Or what Priest you have maybe? We had to play "The Dance" in 1994 for my husband's dad graveside. We asked and were told no. Nowadays most get these videos and music played at a funeral home before going to the Church for mass.

Caylee had a sad existence where she was squeezed inot the lives of others when it was convenient, and now she is barely more than an afterthought at her own memorial....if not for the opening and the vidoe, this may have been about THE ANTYHONY family , not little Caylee.
I hope they all get what they deserve. I know it sounds nasty, and again, I don't really care.
