Speaks of Obama's wanting his cake and eating it too. Also how his stimulis 2.0 will add $$$$ to the decifit. And how he and his fellow dems helped lead us into this mess.

In an otherwise dry opinion, Justice Sotomayor did introduce one new and politically charged term into the Supreme Court lexicon. Justice Sotomayor’s opinion in the case, Mohawk Industries v. Carpenter, No. 08-678, marked the first use of the term “undocumented immigrant,” according to a legal database. The term “illegal immigrant” has appeared in a dozen decisions.

Terms like “illegal alien” and “illegal immigrant” are considered pejorative and offensive by immigrants rights organizations. (HT: ImmigrationProf Blog)

In a concurrence, Justice Thomas took a swipe at his new colleague, saying she had “with a sweep of the court’s pen” substituted “value judgments” and “what the court thinks is a good idea” for the text of a federal law.

Justice Sonia Sotomayor has written her first opinion for the Supreme Court -- and she already has made a difference. As the N.Y. Times observed, "Justice Sotomayor’s opinion in the case, Mohawk Industries v. Carpenter, No. 08-678, marked the first use of the term `undocumented immigrant,' according to a legal database [in a Supreme Court opinion].The term 'llegal immigrant' has appeared in a dozen decisions." The decision in the Mohawk Industries case involved a technical legal issue that only civil procedure professors could love -- whether an interlocutory order on an attorney-client privilege matter could be appealed immediately or must await a final judgment on the case -- in a case involving a business that allegedly employed undocumented immigrants. Click here for details.

As Bill Hing has previously posted on ImmigrationProf, and I have written on Concurring Opinions, the choice of terminology -- aliens. illegal aliens, illegal immigrants, undocumented immigrants, people -- matters in the discourse over immigration. Consequently, by employing a more neutral term, Justice Sotomayor has added significantly to the Supreme Court's dialogue on immigration, which is likely to be with us for the foreseeable future.

"Obama’s decision to challenge Conyers highlights a sensitivity to criticism the president has taken on the left. Conyers’s critical remarks, many of which have been reported on the liberal-leaning Huffington Post, appear to have irritated the president, known for his calm demeanor."

http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/71075-conyers-obama-told-me-to-stop-demeaning-him

Obama is highly sensitive to ANY criticism, which is why he launches so many attack campaigns.

I'm sure there is a violin playing for him somewhere.

UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANT: The term "undocumented immigrant" is an oxymoron (the parts conflict). An immigrant is synonymous with "permanent legal resident." The old term for the document authorizing a permanent legal resident is "green card." The term "undocumented" is derived from the accurate term "undocumented aliens" who are often called "border crossers." Proper terms are "illegal alien" or "undocumented alien" but not "undocumented immigrant." Although not commonly used, the term "documented alien" accurately refers to foreign nationals who have an unexpired non-immigrant visa such as H-1B.

In an address before the National Jewish Democratic Council, Israel's ambassador to Washington, Michael Oren, commented on the matter. "We discovered that the qualitative edge of the IDF has been eroded," Oren said. "We came to the Obama administration and said: 'Listen, we have a problem.'"

The arms transfers that were particularly disturbing for Israel were of advanced air and naval systems. For example, the U.S. sold Saudi Arabia advanced F-15 fighter-bombers, similar to the ones it sold Israel. According to Israeli assessments, following the U.S. sales to the Saudi kingdom, the Saudi Air Force is currently in possession of 200-250 aircraft of this type.
http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1141433.html

They also sold Saudi Arabia and other Arab states satellite-guided and laser-guided "smart bombs" and now the Obama Administration has to clean up the mess and rebuild trust.

No Administration in history has come into office with a Vice President, Secretary of State, and Chief of Staff with stronger pro-Israel credentials than this one.

Obama fulfilled his campaign promise to boycott Durban II unless ALL of our conditions were met.

Obama will fully fund the development and production of the Arrow 3 ballistic missile defense system.

The Obama administration assured Israel it will continue defending Israel at the United Nations despite the allies’ dispute over West Bank settlements, Israel’s U.N. ambassador said on June 29.

Israel’s ambassador to the United States said the Obama administration backs the Jewish state in opposing the Goldstone report.

... President Obama repealed the import tariffs on Israeli dairy products, making it easier for American consumers to purchase kosher dairy products. The tariffs still apply to most other countries.

"Dem. senators spent weekend with bank, energy, tobacco lobbyists

Twelve Democratic Senators spent last weekend in Miami Beach raising money from top lobbyists for oil, drug, and other corporate interests that they often decry, according to a guest list for the event obtained by POLITICO.

The guest list for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee's "winter retreat" at the Ritz Carlton South Beach Resort doesn't include the price tag for attendance, but the maximum contribution to the committee, typical for such events, is $30,000. There, to participate in "informal conversations" and other meetings Saturday, were senators including DSCC Chairman Robert Menendez; Michigan's Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow; Bob Casey of Pennsylvania; Claire McCaskill of Missouri; freshmen Kay Hagan of North Carolina and Mark Begich of Alaska; and even left-leaning Bernie Sanders of Vermont."

Cont. below.

Change we can believe in?

Obama has increased U.S. marketable debt to a record $7.27 trillion with stimulus and all the bail outs. Gosh, makes you realize that a million dollars, even before taxes, is nothing.

European nations have demanded that Greece make some serious fiscal adjustments to slash their deficit. The thought that China could do that to us might be what is spooking the markets and affecting other countries. We'd be in a heap of trouble should that happen. Obama's proposed cuts would only save billions over 10 years. Meanwhile, the Dems are still looking for ways to spend, spend, spend. IMHO

Obe might consider the debt is cumulative and 77% of it came during Republican admins. From founding days to Carter it was 1 trillion, Reagan/Bush/Bush tripled it; Clinton brought it down and Bush 2 went on steroids bringing it up to around 11 trillion when Obama got in, yep he's added a trillion.

Reminds me of what happens to women when a marriage breaks up, and they get the house, and chunk change, but can't afford to live there, so have to sell or reprioritize or borrow to restore normalcy for self and sake of the kids, and do and succeed slowly, but get blamed for borrowing way out. Then when it all works out, get no credit or pats on the back for job well done. IMHO

What ever people's politics, this will be a fun time. The Tea Party Express with Lloyd Markus and others are kicking off their 3 week trip accross America in Harry's place, Searchlight, Nevada on March 27th. The Governor will be there also and I hope her lovely family. Some pals and I will be attending. Starting the day by an overnight at the Railroad Pass and leaving for Searchlight (about) 30 minutes away in the early AM. At least, not "wasting away in Margueritaville". Interested in what thoughts others have on the Tea Party Express.

A former county sheriff with a centrist-voting record in the House, Mr. Ellsworth has the profile of a potentially strong statewide candidate in Indiana. Now in his second term, he currently represents a conservative-leaning district that includes much of southwest Indiana, including the town of Evansville. While President Obama won Indiana in 2008, the state is considered to tilt Republican.

Despite the Administration’s efforts to spin realities on the ground, their efforts do not change the situation at hand in Iraq. Operational military decisions should not be made for purposes of public relations, as the Secretary of Defense cites, but should be made in the best interests of our nation, the troops on the ground and their families back home.”

Obama said in 2008 that McCain was offering up "the oldest Washington stunt in the book", to pass the buck to a commission to study the problem. This week, Obama put together an 18-member commission to figure out why the deficit is so high. Yea, right, Obama, it's the oldest trick in the book.

Pakistani intelligence agents have arrested Adam Gadahn, the American-born spokesman for al-Qaida, in an operation in the southern city of Karachi, two officers and a government official said Sunday.

The arrest of Gadahn is a major victory in the U.S.-led battle against al-Qaida and will be taken as a sign that Pakistan is cooperating more fully with Washington. It follows the recent detentions of several Afghan Taliban commanders in Karachi.
