View Full Version : The Ramones and Phil Spector
Saw a documentary on HBO the other night. It was from 2003. It was about the Rock Group The Ramones. Halfway through, they talked about how they went to Spectors house as he was to produce an album for or with them. They preceded to elaborate how when they wanted to leave, they were NOT ALLOWED TO LEAVE. He pulled out guns and they said they were frightened and felt like they were held hostage. They said PS told them no one leaves unless he tell them they can go. They said they feared for their lives and stayed because he had guns pointed at them. There were alot of still shots they showed of him holding the guns. Its a wonder that Lana was the only one who was killed! Anyone else see this show?

Wasn't there a recent retraction of that statement by one of the Ramones recently. I remember reading that the gun incident did not happen. I thought the timing, curious at best?

I did not hear that. If they did, maybe they didnt want to be dragged into this mess. Their whole interview in 03 was very erie. if anyone here has any info on this, it would be interesting.

I've posted these links before but what the heck I'll post it all one more time.
Lets see on this link you can watch some discussion about and from some of the Ramones. It was from a PS documentary from back when.

Here is the utube Ramones/PS discussion, very good link.

Last but not least, a picture of one of the Ramones with PS and other guests taken last year according to this Trials & Tribs link. Please scroll down about 2/3 of the way to see the picture.

I always think PS was rather lucky that one of these people that have a gun story to tell about him, or one of their relatives, didn't go ballistic on him back when. JMO only though:rolleyes:
Apparently he has this reputation all along. Every knew about the guns, him not letting people leave, etc. I'm amazed not one person ever told the police about this.

NSM, I realized I forgot one little detail in that long post, according to wikipeda the other 3 members of that group that participated in making their one album with PS have since passed away. The only living member of that group from that period in time is the one posing with PS and the Kssel Bros in the Christmas/Holiday maybe birthday photo. I believe he is also the one that was part of the article about the myth that was recently reported on the link I provided.

says marky(bell) ramone. who is looking for any face time he can get.
he does not have anyone to contradict him unfortunately since they are all deceased, even though filmed interviews exist that say otherwise.

And marky states he (PS) had a license to carry?! What does that have to do with anything, other than bolster the claim made about PS around his trials? He didn't need a license to carry to have a gun at his studio or home, anyway. It's irrelevant. He's probably trying to save his face as well as PS's by retracting all the former tales of the gun brandishing.

it has nothing to do with anything.
he does like going on jamie's show so he can promote himself and jamie can brag about how she used to hang at cbgb's. imo.

 says dee dee romone.
These reports must be channeling Elvis Presley. You'll find much of what Phil has been accused of is true of Elvis.
moo
dee dee RAMONE is deceased. his tales changed all the time, depending on whether he was using or not, iirc.
i am not going to take this bait and go researching because we have all been here before.

In reply to your question: "What does Elvis have to do with this?" Elvis brandished a gun at a recording session; Elvis brandished guns on women and on men, and the list goes on. I find it awfully strange that
Elvis's gun brandishing incidents are now being applied to Spector! Most every gun brandishing incident applied to Spector have been reported about Elvis, in books, news items, fan magazines. I tuned in a tv show with an author talking about gun incidents, and thought the author was talking about Elvis...but the author was talking about Spector! I have no explanation why they'd apply these gun incidents to Spector, But the similarities in gun incidents are astonishing!
mho
Did you ever read my posts about Joe Meek and PS? Now there were some coincidences, but I regress. I won't apply anything about Elvis to Spector, I'll just look at what the defense offered up about Phil. I never hear of Elvis chasing people with a gun over a mistaken identity but then he was one of a kind :)

OMG...probably were those banana peanut butter whatever they were..that he loaded up every morning (can't remember the source)...fried everything
I think Elvis had more chutzpah in a healthy (well..maybe not) sense than PS ever had. Elvis had talent...yes...but he had a sense of belonging to something "sacred" to him..it wasn't all about him, although it certainly may have seemed that way..near his end. Never once did I hear about a gun or knife or anything at all violent in his behaviour. Elvis's violence was inward..to himself...I think he was a "lost soul" after his mother's death..then his "failed marriage"..He never took it out violently against another person..did he?

These "facts" are in books, and in a book authorized by the estate! How many times do you need to be told what Elvis has to do with PS? I explained it in previous posts!
I think they are taking Elvis's gun wielding incidents and applying thto Phil! Why? I don't know, but these gun incidents are identical!
"Laughable?" You call this "laughable?" These gun incidents are "laughable?" I guess it is okay for Elvis to hold a gun to a woman's head because she want's to leave as long as he doesn;t shove it in her mouth?
moo
Phil Spector murdered a woman. Elvis did not. Phil Spector is alive and on trial for murder and Elvis is not. Phil is skinny, Elvis was fat. Elvis was a philanthropist of sorts. Phil was a recluse selfish weirdo. So, what's your point as to PS's guilt or innocence?

please post these "identical" incidents as i am completely unaware of "identical" incidents and i have read almost every book about elvis out there.
imho, i see absolutely no correlation btwn elvis and ps. at all.
looking forward to your links/book passages to update all of us who have followed this case since day one and never, ever have had an elvis comparision brought into the discussion.

Just to be proper, my inference to the occult applied only to Joe M. as I had read about him not to PS. Thank You
I'm sorry, I just don't get how what Elvis once did has any connection to PS and his PS past behavior.

What is this all about? Phil pulled a gun on Elvis?
Wow! Tanks for the info, shanna1970

Since some posters (ONE) appear to want to discuss ELVIS (Are Elvis & Phil one in the same? Or perhaps what some people believe is true, Elvis is in fact still alive, so then possibly he pulled the trigger on 2/3/03 because the "similarities" between Elvis' gun play & gun brandishing habits are "eerily" the exact same as what Phil is being charged with and unfair people are accusing poor Phil of Elvis' crimes , or something to that effect), ANYWAY.... since this THREAD is entitled: THE RAMONES AND PHIL SPECTOR (NOT Elvis & Phil Spector), perhaps those posters wanting to discuss the freaky, eerily similarities between ELVIS and PHIL would like to start a SEPARATE THREAD with that title and all those interested in that TOPIC could jump on over there and chat. Just a suggestion. Hope this helps, . . . as "ELVIS HAS LEFT THE BUILDING" (or should I say "THREAD"), or at least I hope so.

roytoy, you are right on.
As someone who followed the Ramones for years (and hung out with them a couple of times) I will take the words of Johnny, DeeDee, and their manager Monte over Marc Bell's any day. Marky even admits that he was drinking during the End of the Century sessions, and in fact was fired from the Ramones a couple of years afterward for his alcohol problem. And yes, he conveniently waits until the other members of the band are not around to dispute his account.
No doubt Marky and Phil shop at the same wig store.

Well, I never met Marky but I did get a chance to meet Joey Ramone at Gold Star studios on 1 occasion when my father brought me there with my Brothers. I thought Joey seemed very nice. My father, Joey & I even went out to get pizza at about 3am while my Brothers slept on the couch in the studio. It was one of the very few times I did anything with my father. It was a lot of fun.
I too find it suspicious with the timing. I just wonder if it's not for the purpose of trying to get Marky to take the Stand. Personally, I would prefer that approach then the one they decided to take by trying to prove my father is mean to everyone. I just can't see how that can really help him.
