Note: I offer this as one possible scenario for the disappearance of Ray F. Gricar. It explains the evidence, but is far from the only scenario explaining the disappearance. Something like this might have happened. It is a possibility, not an advocacy.

In April of 2005 Ray F. Gricar (RFG) was planning to walk away, from his job and his girlfriend, but not his family, and possibly not permanently. He had done something similar, but on a much smaller scale before, going to a ball game in Cleveland. He frankly didn't think it would be too big of a deal; he'd "played hooky" from work once in the week ending on 4/15/05. On Monday 4/18/05, his First Assistant DA would be back in town and could cover for him.

He might have been planning to return in a few days or of sending in his resignation in a few days. He might have planning to return, eventually. He didn't plan to worry his family, just get away from work and/or PEF for a while. Or permanently. It could be "early retirement." He could call LG, in Seattle later, during the next week.

He'd leave PEF's car where it would be easily found, after some time had past. He'd have the chance to get rid of that data on the laptop as well; it was an old one and wouldn't cost too much to replace. The call to PEF would lead her to it, eventually.

He was going to meet someone, a helper, in Lewisburg. The helper, H, may have been paid, or H may have been romantically involved. In any event, RFG wanting to be incognito for a while. Nothing wrong in that

H picked him up in Lewisburg, maybe taking a motel room for him someplace in Lewisburg. On 4/18/05 RFG and H were in Wilkes-Barre. He didn't expect that the police and LG would become involved so quickly

One of two things happened:

1. He had a change of heart. Maybe he saw the press conference, or heard about. Maybe he saw or heard how upset PEF and LG were. He decided to go back, which didn't well with H, his lover. There was an argument, it escalated. In the heat of the moment H killed RFG.

2. He had some cash with him, as much as five digits, more than enough for a week. Maybe H was promised some for helping and RFG decided not to pay because he wasn't going to stay away. Maybe H just realized RFG had money and decided to steal it. H killed RFG during the robbery.

(Yes, there are some problems with it.)

I like your scenario and the number 1. I think H may have called a male to do the killing tho, perhaps she was with someone else like boyfriend and girlfriend and she may have made up a story about RG to anger her boyfriend or even a husband.

A third possibility is that H's SO showed up. That would be part of number one.

This is one of the many reasons that I really want LE to answer the question of how RFG got out of Lewisburg.

I gotta agree with you. Yea the H's SO showed up angry makes alot of sense. I just wonder if she was his means out of Lewisburg. It's too hard for 2 of them to drive around in a mini cooper with a vanity plate. RG getting into her car makes sense.

Its someone he knew.

Her car would be less flashy.

It also explains the 20 feet from his car scent.

The laptop being erased might of contained emails and perhaps she was going to erase it for him since he was not savy that way.

She might have also showed him how to separate the hard drive.

He might have also planned on telling PF that he just needed some time away to clear his head as per: naps ect. It would be a easy made excuse.

It would explain the need to take his contact lense case and laptop.

It even explains the sunglasses (disguise) not that sunglasses need explained lol.

Just driving east on a sunny morning could explain the sunglasses. :)

RFG wanted to erase the laptop, so that isn't strange. I doubt if he'd need instruction on how to remove the drive.

Right now, I'd give this scenario "Walkaway to Murder" about a 20% chance.

No, murder is 43%, but something like this scenario is 20%.

You forget, RFG did "vanish" once before, for about 30+ hours. That was when he had a wife expecting him home. The Cleveland trip. He came back. It could have started as something like that, but became something else.

Yes, two for two. In this one, there was an SO, but not a wife.

Now, for 20 Bonus points, what was on the news in Wilkes-Barre on the evening of 4/18/05?

Answer the press conference. Check the stories dated on 4/19:

Ya know in this day and age the age of SECURITY to the point of parnoidism, how can RG be out there? No credit card activity no banking? No use of his name within a vechicle ownership. Just left all his credit disappear right along with him. Years of building it up Im sure. Then there is his age factor, would he not need health insurance? So RG is beyond all the necessities of life? Trying to get a job and others seeing your face daily? The risk initself? Then nevermind I don't need my social security or my Medicare? Oh why not just forget all those years of working for my retirement? Hey what the heck I did it to give it all to Lara. Im learning to live off the land. Heck I didn't even need a vechicle of my own. Okay I left Marky a book on how to take over for me, but I knew he was going on a trip friday and if I decied to return before Monday I could easily of put it back. No need to alarm anyone.

It depends how much money he would have. That one I can't answer.

Well add up its almost 4 years and times it by how much you need to live on for that long. Plus paying for health care and food and shelter and utilities ect.

It depends on how much and where you're living.

S1, RFG did at least on one prior occasion, leave overnight without telling his then wife or staff. I don't expect him to have telephoned out of town family members. I therefor would not call it out of character for him to have done that on 4/15.

It might have started out as something like that, and became something else. It isn't a good idea to rule it out because you don't like it.

You've pointed out yourself that there hasn't exactly been a string of disappearing/murdered DA's, LE, or public officials in Central Pennsylvania since 2005.

A major incentive for me to post would vanish if I was sure there wouldn't be "a next time." :(
