LAS VEGAS (AP—A broken O.J. Simpson has been sentenced to at least 15 years in prison for a Las Vegas hotel armed robbery by a judge who rejected his apology and said, "It was much more than stupidity."
Simpson stood stone-faced Friday when Judge Jackie Glass quickly rattled off his punishment after he pleaded with her that he didn't mean to steal from anybody when he tried to retrieve memorabilia.

Yes, they are reporting that he has to serve five years before he can get paroled. I bet he will be a model prisoner while he is in there cause this dude can't stand not being out in the public . :rolleyes:

I remember back during the trial, a prison official said that he would be put in protectivce custody because he would be treated as a celebrity in the jail, probably by both prisoners and guards. They want to avoid him being singled out for superior treatment and being turned into some kind of prison Godfather.

Oh yes - and they were out in the streets after the verdict screaming at the Goldmans. But there will be those who want to make their reputation by beating down "the Juice". Prison officials will have their hands full keeping him safe.
He'll probably be segregated. He'll hang out in his cell, watch TV and do drugs. I doubt he is much of a reader; maybe he'll chat with friends. I'm sure there is a guard who will be happy to take money for sharing a cell phone with the great OJ. Maybe he'll get out in the yard an hour or so a day to work out (if he still does that).
OJ is a big strong man. There ain't nobody in prison that is going go after him.
Besides, he's their hero.
They spend most of their time watching sports on TV.
Prison is not going to faze him.
And, watch. He will get out in 5, maybe 6 years.

Even if he is released in 5 or 6 years - which I doubt - he will still be a man at the end of his years, broke from legal fees, and he will have had a few holidays, etc. pass while he is sitting alone in his cell. He also won't be romancing anymore young blond women, and by the time he gets out, none will be interested in him anyway.
I only hope the Brown's and the Goldman's get some small sense of satisfaction.

Somehow, I do not see him becoming another Birdman from Alcatraz (sp?)
I wonder if he'll "make it"..meaning..not get himself busted up..put in solitary..lose it..or try to make a getaway in a Bronco?
Yes..I'm being cynical and stupid..but he reminds me so much of PS (WORSE actually)..above the law..and now he's caught..maybe he'll be a role model for Spector?
Yah..gotta think..HOW STUPID was he to do this? He got off of the criminal trial...had his freedom...tried to get a book published...one might think he'd figure..maybe spend his evenings in the closet if he can't control himself? Or at least to let go of his Memorabiilia..forget it..it wouldn't be worth it. But, no...and I wonder..did those things really mean that much to him..or was it the "principle"? Took the law into his own hands (again...in a sense...instead of maybe "calling the cops on his wife and friend" to make a "scene" instead of them getting killed/murdered) and he just had to get it back. I think it comes down to Ego..Control.."in the pocket" (or so he thought)..and celebrity...he acted like he was some mafioso..how danged stupid was that? Not that I'm defending him..I'm GLAD he got caught and he'll serve time for SOMETHING.
I feel bad for his kids..always have..but maybe they're relieved? I haven't followed their history with him and all. The Goldmans and Nicole's families..I hope they feel some recompense albeit not monetarily. I guess..if you don't get the car back that was stolen or the thieves prosecuted and found guilty for it..there must be some relief in knowing they fell on the traintracks one day while trying to steal another person's car? I suppose that makes no sense..but what i was trying to convey is what goes around comes around. He got what was coming to him..just NOT enough...

I heard that one charge that he was sentenced for, he would be eligible for parole on that one in 5/6 years, but there is another charge that is consecutive after the first one. That charge carried a 1 yr. sentence. He will have to serve that before he can come up for parole on the first charge. JMO

There was a lot of confusion even among lawyers as to how much time OJ got because it was a complex set of consecutive as well as concurrent sentences. They seem to have finally figured it out. He could serve 33 years, but he's eligible for parole in 9. The prosecutor doesn't believe he'll make parole first time around. I've read it on several news outlets but here's one:

The reality that his arrogance & bullying tactics no longer served him & couldn't save him was abundantly clear by the expression on his face as he tried to convince the judge that he was not an arrogant bully.
The consequences of belligerently steamrolling over anyone who makes him angry had finally come home to roost.

No, I think, in his mind, Fred Goldman is the number one bearer of fault... then Nicole. And then, the poplulation of the entire world, before reaching himself, coming in dead last.

More likely, the other inmates see him as a big target with "KILL ME" painted on it. I don't think he'll last very long in population; he'll be targeted just like Jeffrey Dahmer was and Scott Peterson is.

Even though all 3 are evil Dahmer killed kids and Peterson killed his baby so everyone would have wanted to get to them. With OJ it would just be someone who wanted to make a name for themselves. I can't even think of the guy's name who killed Dahmer without looking it up. If someone kills OJ in Prison he will become infamous.

Oh please, we keep hearing about how prisoners hate baby-killers and wife-killers. "Honor among thieves" is a load of you know what and I don't believe it for a second. The prisons would be a lot less crowded if all these high-minded felons actually felt that way! Prisoners who kill other prisoners do it for revenge or for fame, or because they are simply psychotic - probably what got them there in the first place. JMO
